OT: Detroit Tigers (Real throwback uniforms, circa 1979) @ Tampa Rays (imaginary throwbacks)

Submitted by rob f on

Tune in to FoxTV now for "Throwback Night" at Tropicana Field.  Tigers are wearing the road grays w/orange and blue stripes of the late 70's and 80's and look good in them.  The Rays didn't exist then, so they had to come up with something that looks like a hybrid Blue Jays/Astros/Padres concoction.  Actually, all things considered, not too awful-looking.

Rays get a HR. A guy also ran onto the field earlier, would have liked to see him try to climb that 11 foot wall.

And another one by Pena. :|

wrongly attributed it to "good baserunning by Peralta", then added the same comment about Kelly, when it was 100% a blown rundown by the Rays.  McCarver, IMO, is one of the worst color guys ever employed by any of the networks for MLB games.

Holy smokes we've gotten 2 clutch hits in back-to-back innings? Nice job Jhonny, he's been victimized by an unlucky BABIP the last few weeks.

The throw backs looked great. Actually I didn't mind the Rays units either. The shot that hellickson took sounded sick. Poor cello looked really good and actually hit 93 a couple of times with his fastball. After watching JV make Jennings an All-Star last night it was good to see a solid win.

I went to this game, but had enough class not to root for the Tigers in the Trop.  It's sort of a bone of contention among Tampa Bay fans.  Anyway, it was great to see Porcello pitch like everyone thought he would when he came up.

You may have noticed a full stadium of quiet people.  They were there for the Earth, Wind, and Fire concert that started about a half hour after the game ended.  Tomorrow, there won't be 15,000 people there, but they will be as loud as the 30,000 or so tonight.

Would they disown you or something? I would imagine all home fanbases are unappreciative of boisterous away fans. I'm not really a rah-rah guy, so I wouldn't be loud and obnoxious at a stadium other than CoPa (not even that when I'm there) but IMO you can't really have a gripe when your stadium is barely half-full every home game.

Are you a tigers fan? Being stuck in a state filled with hoards of displaced tiger fans, afraid to root for them gives me no hope for retirement. Please tell me your delusional. btw.....went to Tropicana about 5 years ago to see Tigers/Rays, stadium is a joke. Totally impressed with the travel trailer outhouse pods located in the concourse, kinda reminded me of high school football games.

Any fans that would have a "bone of contention" for opposing fans rooting for their own team on the road are the classless ones.  I mean, don't be a loudmouth prick about it, don't heckle players in their home stadium, that kind of thing, but there's nothing wrong with cheering.

Loved the uni's. Tigers have under achieved but are still in the hunt. If they can sneak in with the AL Central title then I'll be happy because when the post season starts everyone is 0-0 and anything can happen then. Just have to look at 06 and 11 Cardinals or 10 Giants.
