OT: Georgia RB Isaiah Crowell Arrested

Submitted by LSA Aught One on

Former 5-star RB Isaiah Crowell of the Georgia Bulldogs was arrested on weapons charges.

You may remember Crowell from EDSBS post (here).  Apparently, he had some issues with the coaches during the year, as well.

Wasn't he the top rb coming out last year? Sad to see talent go to waste , but if your a high profile player toting guns, you deserve everything that comes to you.

Nothing good happens after midnight... especially with a Luger 9mm under your seat.

Side note: That ESPN reporter should NOT quit his day job.

Not sure about the gun under the seat part, but I can definitely attest to all the bad things that can happen after midnight.  I got tricked into feeding my pet Mogwai after midnight this one time back in the mid 80's, and man did things get real messy...

This kid has been a head case for a long time, plus with the 2 highly ranked RB's Georgia has coming in I don't they miss this guy at all.

Apparently him and four teammates were stoped at a campus checkpoint and the car smelled like weed. He was suspended last year for a failed drug test. Georgia has to get the culture together asap.

"I don't know. I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended."

Is there some sort of common sense test they can institute as an NCAA requirement?  Maybe ratchet up the GPA cutoff a couple points?  It never ceases to amaze me how dumb these athletes can be.  Regular students are dumb too but they also aren't guaranteed millions just by keeping it together for a few years.  It just boggles my mind every time this happens.

I was thinking the same thing.  At least we could put together a list of things not to do as a D1 scholarship athlete, photocopy it, and pass it out...

Congratulations on your full ride D1 college athletic scholarship!!

Things you shouldn't do:

1. Murder people.  Even if other people do it all the time.

2. Carry/point/discharge/transport firearms or firearm-like fake firearms.  This includes, but is not limited to, carrying a loaded handgun in the waistband of your sweatpants when you go out to the club.

3. Murder hookers.

4. Dope.  (Yes, the law counts that as dope too.)

5. Use other people's vehicles as your own personal playground equipment.

6. More dope.

7. You get the idea.  Don't you?  DON'T YOU???

"Other people were driving my car. It's not my gun. No sir, I don't know anything about it. I've never seen that gun before. Nosiree."

Apparently, Crowell feels that "street cred" is more important to him than staying "out of the system."  Although, I can't imagine his attorney not using some variation of "if he knew there was a gun there, he would never have consented to a search."

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.  If the worst happens and he has to do a year or so, I would imagine that someone in EL will give him a chance.

Mod edit: You didn't go over the line. I read your post as an attempt to be informative, but weapons laws are a very touchy subject and I think your post was too likely to push people over the line. The only weapons law related posts I won't delete are the obviously smartass ones. [zl]

I don't have a problem with being controversial, but only until it strays into a political hot-button issue. You're new to the board and I didn't think you were intending to get anyone riled up, so I just wanted to give you a heads up that political issues are verboten here unless they directly relate to college football (ie Congressional hearings on concussions in sports) or the University of Michigan (ie the President comes to campus).

Scary thing to think about what's to come for this kid.  He obviously has some character issues.  Football and the posibility of the NFL is often enough to keep these guys in line for a while.  Now that football is gone, he could quickly go Maurice Clarett on us.  Hopefully this event has on oppposite effect and straightens him out.
