OT: Friday Open Thread

Submitted by JeepinBen on

It's that time of week again and frankly Profit is slacking because he's working and not on here slacking.

What's going on for the weekend? Any crazy July 4th plans in the works? USA USA USA!

I'm off to a wedding this weekend that should be a good time, finishing out the clock here before hitting the road, off Wednesday - Sunday next week and looking forward to it.

...from the movie Class Act.

Kid: "that's stupid..."

Play: "thanks!"

Kid: "did you hear me?! I said that was stupid!"

Play: "did you hear me?! I said thanks!"

Kid: "are you deaf?!"

Play: "Man I'm the deafest brotha on the block!"

Kid: "you're deaf?"

Play: "Yes"

Kid (out loud): "I think Blade Brown is the biggest asshole on the planet..."

Went to the preview last night.  They provided everything from the food court as well as a carving station with roast beef, salmon, and pulled chicken.  The food alone was worth going.  Gas for $3.33 a gallon at their station didn't hurt either.

Hot in NOVA, over 100F it seems forecasted. Lots of Coke Zero, until beer in the PM. Sierra Nevada southern Hemisphere Fresh Hop Ale--Drinking Thread too early?

Compiling information on new clients and creating files for them - pretty boring stuff, but it passes the time.

Now big weekend plans.  I actually have to work Saturday afternoon for a special organizational event, which should actually be a good time.

Bartending a 650 person wedding on Saturday as a favor to an in-law... outside.  I am fairly certain that is a ton of brownie points..

I used to bartend weddings while I was in college.  It was hot enough running around inside in the air conditioning.  I would definitely not want to be serving drinks outside in 95 degree heat.  650 people sounds like a fun time though.

Not a 'high fashion' wedding at all.  I used to run an event bartending company and before and since then I have bartended at bars at varying frequencies.  I won't put out a tip jar, though, unless they specifically tell me I should.  I'm looking at it as a wedding present type thing, donating a few hours of my life to help.  The other people working are all relatives of the groom, so I didn't have any cost involved bringing people I knew... just myself and the standard bar implements that they aren't providing.

for a visa for Ms. Lampjaw's study abroad. A front row seat at the debt crisis for the econ public policy major. Then maybe to Greektown for a lunchtime foretaste.

Skip ahead to the 5:10 mark and you will see TH Jr. with Wale.  I randomly came across this when I was watching this music video.

Taking a good chunk of next week off to simply relax. Today is a slow day at the office, so I am basically getting paid to drink Blue Powerade and watch 30 for 30 films. Making some pizzas at  the brewpub tonight then destroying my stomach with some BW3 after I clock out.

Slow day here too.  All I'm doing is correspondance between my travel agent for upcoming travel in July and August - 5 weeks off and on between Philly, Raleigh and Atlanta.  I'm going to rack up some points with 10 flights and 25 days in hotels.  My wife is getting really big being all pregnant and such.  I have a no-fly for 6 weeks around her due date and I'll work from home that entire time so its not all that bad.  I've already got the mgo-gear for his hello post.

Prepping to head up to Montreal for ballroom dance competition this weekend. It's probably the last competition I'll get to do with my girlfriend for a while since she's headed to grad school, so I'm excited and nervous for a million different reasons. She's never been to downtown Montreal either, so I'm hoping to get to spend some time around town.

It's a competition that involves ballroom dancing... waltz, tango, cha cha, jive, etc.  It's kind of a strange concept when you first think about it, but it's a fun way to combine art, athleticism and competition.  U-M actually has a huge team that's pretty well-known in the collegiate circuit;  They ahve multiple national championships.   Admittedly though, the national collegiate competition is mostly attended by midwest schools.

Here are some high-level examples:

I've got two things to look forward to:

  1. A Leinenkugel's summer shandy when I get off work.
  2. Family vaca at Holden Beach, NC. Driving down first thing tomorrow morning.

Can't wait!

Today: Finishing a short memo that's morphed into a long report (overzealous appendices!) which goes out this afternoon.

Later: Going home and reading the HOV on the deck with a beer (just received it in the mail) .

Tomorrow: I'm planning to prep and then paint the basement walls with a waterproofing paint.

Also, we just found out my wife is pregnant which is slightly more than a Friday plan but I couldn't be happier.

TV in the delivery room (though if you thought the "you aren't listening to me" conversation was bad in the living room...).

My wife is due the day after the Ohio game. Oh, first born, PLEASE be right on time...

Of course, this may not happen in your instance, but both of my kids were scheduled C-sections, mainly because of my wife's assertion that, being 5'-1", there is "nothing like that happening down there" (edited for content).

Anyway, we were fortunate enough that both kids were born during the summer, so there wasn't this sort of conflict, but if it should come up, definitely push for a Sunday or early in the week surgery during the season.
