Tom Kowalski Wins Pro Football Writers Award (My Tribute To Killer)

Having a military background, I'd grown accustomed to death, and the sudden loss of life, but this stuck with me. After the army, while at Michigan, I e-mailed Killer for advice on how to be successful in sports journalism. I was trying to decide between a future in writing or in accounting. Being the practical kid I was raised to be, I went with accounting. But before I made that decision, Tom and I exchanged many e-mails about writing and life in general. Years later, at a benefit for charity, I finally got to meet Tom. I was sure he wouldn't remember me, but when I told him who I was, he spent 30 minutes talking about how my life had gone since then. It was almost like reacquainting with a long lost friend, because that's the kind of guy he was. We spoke by e-mail a few more times after that, one exchange that happened 4 months before he passed. The last thing he told me was to "don't sweat the small stuff". I had a particularly hard week this week, and I re read those e-mails, and Killer was proved right. I didn't post any of this after he died, because I just am not that sappy or into public displays of emotion. But I realized the other day that people really needed to know what a decent human being he was. And if Killer could take time out of his busily schedule to help put a lost kid on the right road, then remembering him is the least I could do. Killer was the same way about letting pepple see his emotions, but he was a good man. At the end of the day, isn't that all any of us can hope to say about ourselves? RIP Killer, I miss you my friend. Maybe we'll get to finally have that burger and beer, if heaven has any places of any Merritt. Farewell.

I'm pretty sure this was intentional. And we're all (myself included) fawning over him way more than he deserves. Yuck.

Also, I'd like to state for the record that i'm 100% ok with Herm being a fake, if indeed he were one. That much character and personality is rich, no matter if it's contrived or not.

I'll go ahead and be the jerk to bring some perspective...Isn't this whole thing extremely lame? Pretending to be someone you're not on the internet? Hurry! There has to be a medal, trophy, or some certificate we can give for such trickery.  If we continue to let this go on in the future, people may start lying about the size of their dick, or worse, making up fake Hello posts. God that one cracks me up every time.

I am just so confused... So WiaB posted this long thing, then logged out, then logged in as RDT, and then tried to perpetrate like he wasn't WiaB?

Killer died?  You gotta be sh!tt!ng me!  I've spent the last couple of months following this RDT character and just recently came up for air.  Wow!  Can't believe he's gone.

Entertaining because of real-life parallels around trust, needs for admiration, mentality of the masses, etc. Wonder why he didn't just edit the post. /ctrlc's and ctrlv's the post just in case he actually does

Like other people have stated, I would not have clicked on this thread, but after seeing the number replies, I just knew something went down in this thread.

That being said, I have no problem with admitting I fell for the charade. It really wasn't the outsider being respectful on our blog thing, I thought he had some funny posts. I started to wonder about him later on down the road though.

Because of this, I wonder if his credentials are true and if he really knew Killer, or if this was his way of dropping the charade

Well, I'd go so far as to say that this thread is one that will live in infamy (to abuse a quote by the man who was president of this country during my early teenage years).

And I can assure you that I am very real.
