The Frozen Apple!

Submitted by UAUM on

It looks like one of M Hockey's showcase events is going to be a game against Cornell at Madison Square Garden - and they're calling it "The Frozen Apple" - seriously.

Interesting event, questionable name, but they scheduled it on the same day that M plays Ohio in football - November 24, 2012.  I realize The Game is at noon and "The Frozen Apple" is at 8:00 pm, but why?

Details here

I'm fine with the overlap really.  The game is in Columbus so odds are most of the Michigan fans attending are coming out of the Midwest footprint.  Meanwhile the East Coast fans can hit NYC for the day.  We have a huge alumni base in NYC and so does Cornell, so I'd imagine between the two of them we'll sell the cube out.

The only really issue with the scheduling, is if we did post CFB season we could make a play for higher ratings.  Sports fans tend to rank football over hockey on the value scale.  So a lot of casual fans, who might watch the game, will be watching football instead.

what sections are going to be what price levels?  And following that, does anybody have any experience/opinions as to which of those sections are best for the price/best overall?

via the Cornell ticket office. I bought six for my Michigan crew just so that there's some Maize and Blue in the Cornell cheering sections. Info below. It also provides for better heckling opportunities. SEE YA! CHUMP....

This has the potential to be a glorious day for Michigan!

Why are they playing this indoors instead of outside like all of the other big hockey games?  Yankee Stadium should be available, that'd be cool!

Because cornell does a game there every year, and it's the most famous arena in the world.

Actually it's been every other year until this game.  However, the answer to the question is that MSG is the World's Most Famous arena.  A much cooler place to play than some random football or baseball field - at least for hockey players.  There's actual hockey history in there.

Everybody realizes that this is Cornell's event that they scheduled and are running, and we just got invited to be the competition, right?

What if it is Cornell's event? Why does that matter?

Are you saying as a fan I shouldn't ever go to see my team play an away game?

Or are you, perhaps, implying that Big Red hooligans will jump Michigan fans if we show up at MSG for the game?

Please fess up! The ticket presale is imminent and I don't know what to do due to your obscure/veiled comment!

Basically all of the complaints on this thread ( "Somebody should get fired for using the phrase Big Blue"/"Why is this the same day as the OSU football game"/"why isn't this at a different venue" ) are stupid if you realize that all those decisions are being made by Cornell, and not us.

Michigan is really going to be rocking that New York area this holiday.

Men's Basketball is playing in the NIT Season Tip-off and if they advance, they'll be playing at MSG. They have a game right down the road at the new Barclays Center in Brookyln against wvu.

And of course Hockey is getting a rematch with cornell at MSG.

Hopefully I'll be in a very happy mood that day because of the result of what's going on at Noon.

but the ticket sale just got announced and that's exciting. Michigan doesn't meander east all that often so you have to catch them when they do.
