It's not against the law to interphere with an NBC broadcast. Public intoxication? Maybe, but I think that would have more to do with his behavior after the incodent.
I'm not a lawyer.
But I'd imagine public intoxication, disorderly conduct and/or tresspassing are in the running for what he gets for this.
Regardless, that was one of the funniest sports interruptions I've seen in awhile. Would've loved to see what this guy could've done if he had gotten more than 4 seconds to do it.
And if he wasn't drunk does he still get to enjoy a jail cell, pal?

He got pulled out of the way pretty hard. Watch he has a sore neck this morning, sees one of those 1-800-Call Lee Free commercials while watching cartoons and has a lawsuit against the USGA by this afternoon.
A "journalist" interrupts the president's statement on immigration.
A Romney rally is interrupted by chanting protetors, disrespectful of the candidate's right to speak and the listners' right to hear.
And now this eejit at the U.S. Open.

The guy will get a minimal misdemeanor fine, if anything.
But then the USGA will impose new security measures, so that golf tournaments will be less friendly and less close. Golf tournaments will begin to resemble the rest of urban society and large-scale events with security zones and more security personnel. For normal golf fans, golf tournaments will become less-fun places to go.
This is what it means to be an asshole. There are social consequences, even when there are no criminal penalties and when you are such a poor and worthless peice of shit that it means nothing if someone were to sue you.
It is remarkable how badly golf galleries have deteriorated in the last 15-20 years. "You Da Man!" has led to "Get in the Hole!" (on tee shots, on par 5's) and now, from San Fransicso, "Yabba Dabba Do!" and bird calls. This is not representative of people having fun. It is an intentional sort of auditory vandalism. Where people want their voices recorded on a broadcast, to leave their mark on an event. Those people have no concern about how stupid they sound (it may in fact be intentionally stupid); they just want to be part of what is happening, even if the part that they play is that of "idiot."
I generally agree with this; however on Saturday when Colsaerts teed off on 7 with an iron (the reachable par-4) and some guy yelled, "NICE LAYUP!" I about died.
Agree -- that was awesome. I think there's a place for actual heckling, but not yelling something ridiculous just for the sake of hearing your own voice.
It's been going on for a long, long time in other situations. Many years ago I went to a John McLaughlin concert, and given the importance that his religious views played in his music, it was hardly surprising to us that he asked for a minute's worth of silent meditation prior to the start of his performance. About 30 seconds into the silence, some drunken asshole screamed out "rock and roll!! yeah!!" as if he thought he was at a Ted Nugent concert.
Another aspect of this is the near-constant whistling during the playing of the national anthem at professional sporting events, especially basketball and hockey games. "Even if the part that they play is that of "idiot" captures their mentality perfectly.
While I agree with most of this frankly most golfers are self pretenious assholes (even weekend warriors) so the fact that random drunkards are getting more facetime than the USGA would prefer makes me chuckle inside.
Really; people who think that the USGA are blue-coated snobs should just do everyone a favor and don't go to USGA events.
Happily, most USGA events that I go to (amateur events, qualifiers, etc.) have about 300 people present, and anybody who behaved like a jerk would stand out so starkly that they'd first of all probably behave better and secondly wouldn't last a minute if they did behave badly.
Only in the largest crowds do assholes feel like they can get away with it. And for the most part, midwestern crowds are a lot better than the poeple on the coasts. The worst U.S. Open crowds are the ones at Bethpage, at Torrey Pines and now at Olympic.
Please; if you can't behave like a member of a golf gallery then don't go to a golf tournament.

The best way to call somebody 'pretentious' is to misspell the word of focus in the sentence and and make sure you do it pretentiously.
Agreed. Amazing how a few idiots can ruin something for everyone else. I suspected maybe it was a relatively small handful yelling the most obnoxious stuff but can't say for sure - it was not a lot at any one time.
Screaming "Go USA" after MacDowell hit his opening tee shot was particularly obnoxious. I noticed he laughed it off but it sounded idiotic. It has gotten bad enough that I'm surprised they aren't trying to grab the shouters and stop it but that may not be feasible.
I noticed that too and it was in bad taste. If they have done it after Furyk had hit - to cheer him on - it would have been fine. But yelling after MacDowell hit made them seem like a-holes. [EDIT - I actually heard it late in the round. They did it on number 1, too? ]
However, it was not as bad as the continuing plague of people who yell random things after a player swings. I heard one dude yell "SKITTLES!" after a swing. I mean, is that supposed to be funny? It is just about as funny as yelling "IT'S IN THE HOLE!" when someone tees off on a 670 yard part five. (Yeah, dude, Chaddy Shack, we get it. Very funny.)
Is that what they were called, where you had to stick your hands and head through holes in wood and stay there? Where people have to go in the public square of their town and spend the day being ridiculed? And I am not even joking, I honestly believe for some offenses that should happen.

I was there at Olympic on Sunday and stayed on 18 almost all day where the crowd was fairly tame and didn't bother the players. I would say it was a lack of security as how the crowd was structured around 18 he could have only come from one place (that being from the left of the interview). Any ways it was a great tournament but I was dissapointed not to see Furyk give it up, but when you go 68-68 on the weekend at a course like Olympic, you deserve to win. There was also some idiot dressed in a tiger costume the whole day which reminded me of The Peguin/Frankenberry Guy who went to Hockey games in my day. Dressing up in a ridiculous costume at a college hockey game is acceptable and funny, dressing up at a golf event as a grown man is not.
I was there as well - spent the day on the rope behind #8 and watched the field go through before going over to 18 and sitting on the hill for the rest of the day.
The guy in the tiger costume looked more like a cheshire cat than a tiger.
The marshals around 18 were standing there watching the ceremony in front of the ropes - it would have been pretty easy to just go under a rope and run up to the green, which was maybe 30 feet to the podium?
The guy did give himself up once he got to the opposite bunker. The police weren't exactly gentle with him. He wasn't cooperating in his drunken state, so they dragged him backwards up the large staircase that went from the hole up to the top of the hill.
This is the 4th US Open I've done and this was a pretty tame crowd.
