I'm might do some kayaking tomorrow.  Anybody have any suggestions? I need to rent a kayak.  Anybody ever been to Proud Lake recreation area in the Wixom/Milford area?

Suggestions on what?  Brands?

I would go with Hobie, Ocean Kayaks, Wilderness Systems or Malibu.

I owned Malibu and Ocean Kayaks in the past.  I now have a Hobie Revo with the mirage system because most of my kayak is now for fishing purposes.

I'd steer clear of the Milford run.  They have some shitty portages over their dams.  Last year a kid and an experienced kayaker (who was trying to rescue the kid) were killed.  The kd's boat was sucked back into the hydraulic since the portage has you put in so close to the dam.

Also the rental places there only seem to have sit on top models, which I hate.

I leave near there but have not been on the Huron river.  It's the same river that run through A2.  If you do anything afterwards check out Milford and it has some good restaurants and bars.  Wixom not so much.  River is very slow moving and has some good wildlife.

http://www.heavnercanoe.com/ rents out of proud lake rec area and island lake rec. I think Island lake is the prettier stretch of river, it's almost all in parks where the proud lake location goes through some backyards here and there (unless you go upstream from the rental place). Both places do hourly rentals or down river pick up. The island lake location is on a lake if that's what you prefer, but you can walk 100yards and launch in the river below the damn.

Be advised the Island lake location is sometimes limited on equipment (most notably kayak paddles) so I would call ahead.

to post a few times on the pos bang threads. My numbers need some rehab after slighting the dorm food and being too enthused about softball. Have mercy on my online identity.

The first two seasons of that show were watchable... In a surreal, "trippy" sorta way. When season 3 started in "fairy land" I had to tell the wife I was out. It had "jumped the shark"... And was only good as an oddity to begin with. The bits I've caught since then have only reinforced my view.
