OT: Raburn called Up, Smyly to DL, Possible Trade Coming?
The Tigers call up Raburn after an amazing .194 stint in Toledo and Smyly put on DL.

There is also talk about a possible trade in the works...

Why the hell can't we have nice things?
What exactly is Fister's ailment? That strained oblique or whatever from his first outing yet?
Well sounds like we are in serious negotions for a nice outfielder from the Padres
guru but what's the deal with Berry now? Is he going to be an every day LF or RF? Don't we need a ton more help in the infield? Why are we going after an OF when we have some competent OFs already?
Sounds like it might be a multi-player/mulit team deal in the works...who knows what will come out of it.
I guess the trade rumors are stemming from a closed door meeting that Leland and Dombrowski had yesterday.
Increased his batting average about 25% in Toledo...deserves some kind of recognition.
there is in our farm system. And frankly the pitching depth isn't all that great either. Outside of Verlander, where are all of the power arms DD has drafted? Sure, some have been traded away, which is useful, but most of those prospects never did much with their new teams either other than Jurjens who is no longer in the majors.
You don't really 'get' how a baseball draft works do you? Not every player pans out. DD has done a great job drafting arm, relative to the odds.
....Dirks, Berry, Boesch
The Tigers did not draft him.
ok, true!
Where I'm from a .194 in AAA isn't very good at all. Ryan Raburn is a giant turd. It would be nice to have Berry's speed on the basepaths and lets be honest, you just called Delmon Young a competent outfielder. The man runs like he has a piano on his back and can't get to fly balls.
talking Jackson, Berry, Dirks and kind of Boesch or Kelly. Enough servicable talent at least to where they should be much more focused on 2B.
Raburn is about as streaky as they come. He's gotten better in Toledo, maybe it's a sign he's starting to heat up. We all know he's got the potential to contribute when he's on his game.
and a stiff gait, kinda like he's holding back a giant dump.
My buddy just heard on radio of a possible trade w/ the cubs. Raburn, Delmon, and Danny Worth for Soriano and Barney
I can't see the Cubs giving up Barney for that lot.
Garza in that deal instead, plus minor league options...but I don't see that either
they're looking to move Dempster too. I wonder if the Tigers are involved in that at all.
You've got to be kidding me right? I imagine this means the Tigers would take on all of Soriano's contract? Raburn, Delmon, and Worth aren't worth a whole lot, I would rather have given up Barney for some middling prospects instead. Well, if this is the deal, I hope it gets done in the next three hours so we can see them switch uniforms and clubhouses during warmups.
There is no way that deal is happening.
Quentin and Delmon would compete for the worst defensive left-fielder in the history of baseball. They are the exact same player, I have no idea how this deal would help.
P.S. I cant stand Quentin and his stupid bat flip.
Raburn to start at 2nd tonight and bat 7th
They brought Raburn up so they didn't have to waste options on another minor leaguer. He will most likely be released by the weekend.
Thats what I am hoping for!!!
I'm not crazy for Raburn but his track record speaks for itself, there is 0 benefit in releasing him...
He could be part of a trade...no I would not wish to straight up release him.
The Tigers aren't going to release a guy that's hit over .300 after the All-Star Break 3 years in a row.
Sounds like it's Quentin. LOL if he propelled the Tigers to a 1st place finish over the Chi Sox.
His career stats batting in CoPa:
.286 - 10HR - 36RBI
So maybe a blessing?
Random thoughts:
1. Quentin for Young is a wash, with Quentin only providing a slight uptick defensively due to his stronger arm. HIs other addition would be intangibles, but right now I'd tke a jagbag like Richie Allen (remember him?) if he can bring a big bat.
2. As a fan of both teams, I can't see the Cubs unloading Garza. Dempster is another story. Soriano to the Tigers doesn't work, either, because of his massive contract and his defensive liabilities. Where on earth would Detroit put another DH?
3. Raburn was called up to be showcased and moved for a song to clear a roster spot and accommodate an additional trade.
4. I like Jackson and Berry at the top of the order as a "daily double" of guys who can get on base. Move Boesch to fifth, especialliy now that he's hot. Then DY is a DH and too bad if he doesn't like it.
I like Berry as well, but he's not an everyday player. He's a defensive replacement/pinch runner with a chance to start a few games, but right now he's living with a high BABIP rate that is just unsustainable. He deserves a spot on the 25 man roster but don't have high expectations that he'll continue to rake.
The Tigers need to get better at defense. They need to get someone that can bat around .250 and play better than average in the field. Preferable someone with some speed as well. They could always move Prince to DH and Cabera to first to make room if they get someone. I can't see them ever winning the World Series unless they become a better all around team. I think the pitching will be just fine.
