Why the hell can't we have nice things?

What exactly is Fister's ailment? That strained oblique or whatever from his first outing yet?

Matt Dery and Karsch and Anderson's twitters are talking about possible trade rumors including Carlos Quentin, and Matt Garza, fwiw.

I guess the trade rumors are stemming from a closed door meeting that Leland and Dombrowski had yesterday.

there is in our farm system.  And frankly the pitching depth isn't all that great either.  Outside of Verlander, where are all of the power arms DD has drafted?  Sure, some have been traded away, which is useful, but most of those prospects never did much with their new teams either other than Jurjens who is no longer in the majors.

I think the bigger argument should be DD's philosophy on drafting period. Instead of drafting positional players we draft pitchers who supposedly throw 95 mph. Seems similar to the Raiders repeatedly drafting the "fastest" player every year. The lack of positional players that are worth a shit in this system is extremely alarming.

That analogy would work.....if the raiders then traded Darius Heyward-Bay for Andre Johnson. You realize we trade those can't miss prospects (who usually don't pan out) for actual position players, right? I would take an Edgar Renteria every now and then if it meant we would get Cabrera and sign him for 10 years.

We traded Maybin and Miller for a HOF'er. That was a fantastic deal obviously but even with that we have had some bad luck developing talent. The lack of infield depth is a serious problem, our best prospect now will never play for us unless he's moved to the outfield. Players who have been drafted and turned out okay or in some cases all-stars: Verlander, Granderson, Avila, Maybin, who else am I forgetting? Wish we had a SS ready to come in....

Boesch and DIrks are going to be solid MLB players. It's a matter of time before Berry departs as his swing is extremely long, water eventually levels out. That being said, he should stay until he is hitting below .200 as he adds a dimension we have never really had...speed

Where I'm from a .194 in AAA isn't very good at all.  Ryan Raburn is a giant turd.  It would be nice to have Berry's speed on the basepaths and lets be honest, you just called Delmon Young a competent outfielder.  The man runs like he has a piano on his back and can't get to fly balls.

You've got to be kidding me right? I imagine this means the Tigers would take on all of Soriano's contract? Raburn, Delmon, and Worth aren't worth a whole lot, I would rather have given up Barney for some middling prospects instead. Well, if this is the deal, I hope it gets done in the next three hours so we can see them switch uniforms and clubhouses during warmups.

Quentin and Delmon would compete for the worst defensive left-fielder in the history of baseball. They are the exact same player, I have no idea how this deal would help.

P.S.  I cant stand Quentin and his stupid bat flip.

They brought Raburn up so they didn't have to waste options on another minor leaguer.  He will most likely be released by the weekend.

Random thoughts:

1. Quentin for Young is a wash, with Quentin only providing a slight uptick defensively due to his stronger arm. HIs other addition would be intangibles, but right now I'd tke a jagbag like Richie Allen (remember him?) if he can bring a big bat.

2. As a fan of both teams, I can't see the Cubs unloading Garza. Dempster is another story. Soriano to the Tigers doesn't work, either, because of his massive contract and his defensive liabilities. Where on earth would Detroit put another DH?

3. Raburn was called up to be showcased and moved for a song to clear a roster spot and accommodate an additional trade.

4. I like Jackson and Berry at the top of the order as a "daily double" of guys who can get on base. Move Boesch to fifth, especialliy now that he's hot. Then DY is a DH and too bad if he doesn't like it.

I like Berry as well, but he's not an everyday player. He's a defensive replacement/pinch runner with a chance to start a few games, but right now he's living with a high BABIP rate that is just unsustainable. He deserves a spot on the 25 man roster but don't have high expectations that he'll continue to rake.

Let's be honest about DD and the entire organization.. They haven't drafted and developed a legit middle infielder in at least a decade. That is horsebleep

The Tigers need to get better at defense.  They need to get someone that can bat around .250 and play better than average in the field.  Preferable someone with some speed as well.  They could always move Prince to DH and Cabera to first to make room if they get someone.  I can't see them ever winning the World Series unless they become a better all around team.  I think the pitching will be just fine.
