For a raw video with no effects, his voice is fine.  I think shows like American Idol have produced unrealistic expectations for vocal performance.  I don't know what the ratio is, but I'm guessing only one voice out of a couple thousand gets onto those shows, and then one out of only sixteen of them win.

So, while his voice isn't one out of 16-30,000, it's definitely not bad, either.  I applaud his courage and creativity.

No, as a singer I can say that his voice is very good.  It's not fine, or not bad.  He has a very good voice.  He might not be able to make a career out of it, but I bet he could be in any of the a capella groups on campus with those chops.  I hope the above poster was being sarcastic.

Probably not.  A lot of waitlisted kids don't like Michigan any more or less than half the other schools they got in to.  It's not like he made this video for 5 other schools (at least, I'm assuming.  They would have hit the webs if he did).

But that's not the biggest thing.  A lot of kids LOVE Michigan (although not a lot in CA who have never been to Michigan).  But doing this shows gusto.  A lot of people talk about things they'd be willing to do to get what they want, but not everybody actually goes out and makes it happen. That shows a lot about this kid's character and his likelihood of success.

As Spottswoode once said. "You've got balls, kid.  I like balls."

Really glad that he got in. The whole reason to have a university is for kids like him. Nobody in the entire school will be more appreciative of their experience.

Just transfer into the college of engineering. They reject next to no one. I've even seen cases of kids who didn't fulfill all of the "transfer requirements," had their GPA worsen from their high school mark, and come from schools that people would typically scoff at (not to say that it matters where you take any textbook course, it's the same everywhere).

Good for him!  I hope he gets in.

Someone does need to tell him though that you don't actually need to be on campus to buy Michigan attire.  There's this thing called the internet that Al Gore invented a few years back that's like a telephone network for your PC.  Call them internet folks up and they'll set you up with some cool Michigan stuff.
