OT - MGoBlog Euro 2012 Bracket group on ESPN!

Submitted by dlcase1708 on

Similar to their March Madness competition, ESPN also has a bracket predictor contest for the European Championships that begin today.  I've created an MGoBlog group, and if anyone is interested please join! I know this is kind of a late notice, but I just discovered the bracket predictor today. Good luck to all!

Since Argentina isn't playing, I'm going to have to go with Spain.  I know, I know - safe pick.  But their squad is like an international all-star team!

German / Netherlands / Portugal / 4th team group is going to be difficult. A good team will miss out :(

Day off today so just chilling here watching Euros all day. Can't wait.

Will eventually join that group seeing as ESPN misled me and made me think the game was at 11:30 when it actualy starts at noon

It's halftime right now. Some controversy as Greek players are racking up reds and yellow , even though they aren't really doing anything. Officiating certainly an issue in the 1st half

That was a terrible PK.  Before the red card I was going to say that it seemed like Greece has been able to keep better pressure while being a man down.

This is based on the spurts I was able to watch streaming at work:

I thought didn't control possession when they were a man up.  It seemed like the only thing they were getting were stalled out counter attacks.

Is this an incorrect view of the game since I didn't watch it all the way through.

Neither team was able to maintain possession for any length of time or manufacture any kind of build up play.  Just about every offensive burst came on the counter after somebody lost possession.  Defending was a bit of a clusterfuck for both teams as well.

Poland looked solid to start the game but didn't do much after that.  Greece really missed a great opportunity with the missed penalty, the other one that wasn't called, and the disallowed goal that would have been clean if the ball hadn't nicked off Samaras's back to make the player on the wing offside.

Well, Russia is certainly asserting themsleves early, 2 goals in the first 24 minutes.  Nice play for the first, though I didn't catch the second.

...but after two weeks of listening to Chris Fowler and the rest of ESPN's tennis hacks butcher every female Slavic name they uttered, I want to say for the record how much I appreciate Derek Rae's efforts to get everyone's name right.
