OT: The Friday "What are you up to?" Posbang Thread

Submitted by profitgoblue on

Its that time again.  Time for a good Friday posbang!

What are you all up to today?  Have you found a way to avoid being productive on this sunny Friday?  Are you doing anything interesting this weekend?

Me, I'm sitting here at my desk as usual, trying not to get carpal tunnel syndrome as I hammer out document after document.  Howard Stern is talking in the background, providing another distraction to get me through the day, which includes me trying very hard to keep my composure with a lawyer for Comerica about language in a document.  Who would have thought a mid-sized bank like Comerica would be so difficult to deal with!?

As for this weekend, I have a nice little Saturday planned.  Going to take my oldest to a gourmet breakfast at IHOP and then hit the storage unit to move crap out of our house so we can put it on the market.  (You'd be amazed at the amount of kids sh-t that you accumulate in just four years.)  Maybe I'll cut the grass too.  Not sure.  Not sure if I'll have enough time.

(For all you Battlefield 3 players out there:  Have you purchased the Premium add-on yet?  Any thoughts on the new weapons?  For you PS3ers, I set up a new platoon called "MGoBlog" (clan name "MGo") if any of you want to join.  I'm playing under a different PSN these days so friend me up.  I'm still playing late-night so if any of you are up late playing too lets squad up.)

[EDIT:  Almost forgot to upvote my own thread . . . Done.]

Using the smoker tomorrow for beef/pork ribs, wings, salmon. So taking care of the prep work today. Beer of choice will be Sierra Nevada southern hemisphere fresh hop IPA, delicious.

trying to figure out what school I should apply to for my PhD; I have seven, and I fell like I need an eighth. Also figuring out if I should simply leave work early in order to get a workout in before I hang out with my wife all day long.

This morning has been dominated by a mysterious string of trouble orders that somehow keep getting directed to my department, where we sit here, look up the work, and then have the sad duty of informing customers that they need to call our lovely 800 number one more time. I also had to dig for the old specs on an installation we haven't approved in ages so I could help a customer maintenance their meter box. You can tell when they've been training new people in Customer Care - the number of strange requests or misdirected calls spikes.

This afternoon should be pretty quiet, which is good because two days of training this week set me behind on the volumes of data mining that I get paid well to do, so assuming that there are no emergencies arising from customer calls, I should be all caught up for the week before I leave today. I also need to compile a list of questions and concerns about some alterations to the order taking process here and present them downtown first thing on Monday.

The weekend will be spent outside, nursing beers and grilling things. Feel free to stop by. Don't ask me about work though.

To be fair to the "beer and grilling" portion, there is a generous supply of the following in the basement refrigerator:

 - Paulaner

- Old Speckled Hen

- Angry Orchard Hard Cider

I also have an assortment of Argentinian wines graciously donated by my father because there was no room in the cellar. I might open a bottle or two as well.

I am going to experiment with my burger recipes this weekend, and my wife is probably mentally preparing for the possibility that one batch may contain diced jalepeno just for kicks...literally. I also have some ribs marinating in the kitchen refrigerator which I might have to cook tonight before I listen to another evening of "the place smells like Lea & Perrins".

I'm getting ready to watch some Euro 2012 and can't wait for it to start. The team I am most excited about seeing is Argentina and Messi....When are they playing again? j/k Profit, I couldn't resist.

Actually looking to get out of here early and play some golf this afternoon. Looks like it is going to be a sunny weekend here in Yarmouth so lots to get done either at the house or the cottage. Have a great weekend guys!

Thanks!  Same to you.

(I always try to make fun of myself before someone else to can get to it first.  I figure I'm human, I f- up like everyone else, say and do stupid things - might as well embrace it!  Its always nice to remember that someone on the other end of the blog/phone/email is a person too.)

Just finishing up this half day of school(10 minutes left) before I get to go home/go out with friends and relax. Unfortunately I still have an entire week to go after this one:(

My guess:  Probably downing a few prunes as he settles into his ancient armchair with the newspaper in one hand, his bi-focals in the other.

(Sorry Herm!  I couldn't resist.  You're probably training for an ultra marathon or something while I sit here on my a--.)

Taking it easy tonight with a few Labatt Blues.  Heading down to Foxwoods tomorrow for Belmont Stakes gambling and a comedy show with Jim Norton and Dave Attell among others.  I may have to skip most of that though to watch Game 7 in the hotel.  Sunday will be spent desperately trying to recover my gambling losses from Saturday.

The Women's Football Academy is tomorrow so that's where I'll be. Last time I went, it was really easy to hang with the players at lunch - I sat with Taylor Lewan and Patrick Omameh. Hopefully, it will be the same deal this time.

I'll try to get some good pics and post them on photobucket.

Trying to discuss plan drawings for a permit application with a large public works authority. The client gave me the task today but the folks I need to contact are out all day. I'll stop worrying about it and move on to hydraulic modelling. After that, painting the new drywall in the kitchen with a few Hoegaardens.

Driving down 23 I saw a truck with a trailer pulled to the side of the road. About 100 feet behind them, there was a large pontoon boat sitting right on the highway. Apparently someone didn't tie it down well. I would have paid good money to see that go down.

I am putting the final touches on the course I have been working on for three months.  Next week is the pilot with a bunch of experts in the field.  Should be interesting.

Later this evening, I am going out for the first time since I moved to Northern Virgina. Nothing special, just a gathering of gym staff and members.  However, I am curious to see what the smoking hot trainers look like outside of the gym.

For those of you in New York or the Tri-State Area, the annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party is tomorrow and Sunday in Madison Sq Park from 9 to 10.  In a city where there is amazing food from all different cultures and region, I've always felt there could be better/more BBQ spots.  Been looking forward to this event for a while.
