Mike Farrell of Rivals just went full butthurt.
For those of you who roam the Twittersphere, check out the timeline of @RivalsMike after Sam Webb announced the Henry Poggi committment this morning. It's pretty entertaining.
Oh, and now Sam himself has fired a shot across the bow:

...back when it was just Borton, and maybe one other guy, and it was just a magazine/newspaper, I was a finalist who was beat out by the guy they hired (after the previous guy moved on to a Golf magazine or something). It might have been Balas. Didn't find it. But I did find this-
By the way, I'm keeping my Rivals account to follow recruiting, but not for the inside information. Chris Balas, the "insider" over there charged with following the coaching situation, originally implied that Harbaugh would be hired, then he switched his pick to Hoke, then Miles, then Hoke again. I said after the bowl game that I expected Harbaugh to be the next coach, but after that, I quit guessing. You get one chance to be right. If you screw it up, you just throw up your hands and say "I don't know what the hell is going on." Not Balas, though. I guess you're bound to be right if, once you're wrong, you get to change your answer a bunch of times. I wish the ACT had been like that back when I was in high school.

I think Hoke will be OK. Lots of 8-4 type seasons, with a +/- 2 wins if we're lucky or unlucky. But I can never see us getting back into BCS level games with him, let alone winning them

Nice find. I'll admit that I didn't like the Hoke hire when it happened, but I kind of hated the Rodriguez hire as soon as it happened, so I'm 50% on coaching hires so far.
And have no real dog in it, other than some guy was picked over me. I'm more than inclined to take your word for it. The only reason I bring up the rest is because the Balas stuff was tacked onto a post about something completely different. Truth be told, you didn't make any grand statements of failure that you'd want to retract now. It's not like it was the most glowing resume ever. Nothing wrong with being skeptical. You were willing to give him a chance.
The only reason why I highlighted the other posters comment wasn't even that he was wrong about Hoke (so far)...but that we did exactly that..get to a BCS game, and win it...in his first year. Now THAT'S a meltdown attitude.
So basically you don't like either hiring but at least you can take solace in one of the two gentlemens' failures?

LOL. Well, sort of. I liked Rodriguez for his offense, but I thought he was a dick. On the flip side, I liked Hoke's personality but thought his X's and O's were subpar.
That was pre-TTB, right? Because I'd love to read your views on that...but I don't want to dredge it up here if, as I suspect, it was prior to having a place for your thoughts. Not worth what will come of it.
FWIW I'm only 50% too...I liked both hires at the time.
Yeah, I didn't start TTB until a year after Rodriguez was hired...and even then, I didn't post very often.
I always thought Rodriguez was a dick, even when he was coaching at WVU and I had no idea he'd be in the running for the Michigan job. I don't necessarily think he's a horrible person, but he's a little short on personality.
Magnus, many people thought the same way. I didnt even like the offense, I am more old school about the offense. I grew to like and respect Rich. And I like Hoke, reminds me of my uncle. The guy who is old school football.
Eh, my thought on schemes is that there's more than one way to skin a cat. As long as you have the proper personnel and they're used appropriately, any offense (or defense) can work. Obviously, we all knew it was going to be a struggle originally, but I figured Rodriguez would get some players in there within a year or two who could make his offense work. Honestly, I wouldn't care if we raun Paul Johnson's triple option, Mike Leach's Air Raid, or whatever. The thing I like most about Hoke and Al Borges's offense is that they were smart and flexible enough to figure out that the 2011 team wasn't prepared to run "power" and they eventually became a predominantly spread team.
Farrell sucks. That guys is useless. And whenever he talks during the US Army All-American Bowl, I think he sounds like a moron who has no clue what he's talking about. Rivals needs to find a new face for their site, in my opinion.

Sam showed Ira the text and played the voicemail confirming what Sam said. And Sam says he's not saying anything else about it on twitter.

Last night Farrell said "I will have Henry Poggi's announcement exclusively Monday (tomorrow) morning at 8am EST thanks to coach Poggi."
Then he later responded to someone saying that "9am release for everyone else I am told."
Did he have any exclusive info? No. He just thought he got the ok to release the info first and then call it his. Apparently Webb also got it and that left Farrell getting scooped on a story that he would exclusively break.
What he gets for trying to come in late and call a story his when many people knew about it and were holding it.
Exactly. Farrell trying to monopolize the announcement when it was known by multiple sources is a joke. Sam isn't perfect, but he's a ton better than Farrell.

For as much as people love to obsess over the exploitation of athletes by institutions, the exploitation of high school students by these "reporters" is immensely more disgusting.
Wow, so a grown man makes a living off of reporting where a high school student is going to attend college FIRST, even though the kid is just going to post it on twitter anyways?
As far as I'm concerned all of these "pay sites" are terrible. They want us to pay for info from their "annonymous sources?" And they can exploit these sources, too, whom they are probably not paying, for information that is so breaking that we must pay for it?

The recruiting services are a dying breed. This entire event today will be the first of many "fall-outs" Each site is fighting for scraps of relevance.
Social Media owns Sam Webb and Mike Farrell, not the other way around. If I were them, I'd have a plan b for my career right now.
Team Info > "inside information" on a recruit. Neither Scout or Rivals gets much team info anymore because The Fort is on lockdown!
That's the most laughably inaccurate statement I've read in this whole thread. You don't seem to be aware of huge amount of time Sam puts in on the road going to camps and high schools and special events talking directly in person to recruits, and he was doing it before FB and especially Twitter were anything like they are now. This is all in addition to the time he spends talking to players on the phone. Social media is just a small factor in what he does.
Sam puts in time on the road, and speaks to recruits. That's great, but it was immensely more useful 10 years ago.
Now recruits don't need to speak to reporters. They speak directly to rapid and casual fans alike. For free. Through twitter.
As a result, filtered information via reporters is pretty obsolete. Unless you hate typos. And blatant misspellings.
Some of these guys go to camps and develop real relationships...but with today's social media, it's too easy for these recruiting sites to simply stalk kids via Facebook, Twitter, etc.
It's sad and kind of creepy at times. Not saying everyone does it...but then again, for every recruiting analyst that does it "the right way"...you have 2 fans who act like they're recruiting analyst and stalk these kids using social media just so they feel important.
MSNBC needs to run a 30 for 30 like special on these sites.
So two supposedly professional journalists are fighting over who would be the first to report something that everyone pretty much knew for two days.
Then Farrell announced it was his exclusive and he would announce it an hour earlier than everyone else was allowed. So after announcing his exclusive at 8:00 am Sam released it at 7:50. Sam did the same thing to him that he did to everyone else.
He shoudn't of announced the time. All that did was give the other guys a time to beat.

I find it shameful that HS coaches in Michigan make under $10K per year in coaching salary while these guys make a living following recruiting.
It's so wrong that our society would rather know where these kids are going to play college football than have them coached properly or have positive role models.
I would love to make anywhere close to $10,000. One of my colleagues did the math one time, and it worked out to about $2 an hour. Of course, you don't get into it for the money...but it's a nice bonus.
...but guys like Farrell, Tim Sullivan, and Tom VH make a living covering recruiting. NO HS coach in this state makes a living coaching.
Yeah...that's America and capitalism, though. I guess I can't complain too much, because that's how this country was made.
Honestly, I've never really thought much about my coaching salary. I couldn't even tell you how much I make. When I started coaching (and I'm guessing this is true for a lot of coaches), I never asked about salary. I just interviewed, got the job, and then found out how much I was going to make as I was signing the contract.
