I can see why there was a brawl.  First of all, the runner could have ended the third baseman's career by taking out his knee like that.  Also, they could have realized how little it means to play at either Indiana or Purdue and decided to take out their frustration on each other.

"Career" is a strong word for an Indiana athlete in any sport except for basketball...

Might as well start referring to good intermural players as having "careers" then.

Yawn...Typical baseball "fight"; some pushing & shoving, lots of yelling, some pointing... yawn. See the big Red Sox/Rays "fight" recently, same "exciting" stuff.

does baseball not end the bench clearing brawls? It's the only sport where it's still tolerated. Even in hockey, where fighting is tolerated, try leaving a bench to get involved in a scrum...you'll quickly see a lot of your season ended, even in the NHL, let alone USA Hockey/NCAA.

Before my time in college baseball, our coaches once had a fist fight with Purdue's coaches and the hatred was deep even by the time I was a fr many years later. I have always been under the impression the Purdue staff has a bad attitude. They do have a great stadium announcer though.
