OT - Detroit City FC begins play on Saturday!!

Submitted by dlcase1708 on

Though I have seen news of the team posted in other topics, I thought this deserved a new post.  Though this is a bit of shameless self-promotion, as I recently gained an internship with the team, I think there are enough soccer fans around here that would like to witness some high-quality play.  This Saturday, at 7 P.M., Detroit City FC has its first game, at Cass Tech High School.  There are 4 current Wolverines on the team: Latif Alashe, Nick Lewin, Etienne Lussiez, and Zeke Harris. Tickets are only 5 bucks, at the door.

More information about the team ---> here.

Not at all! I'm actually just an intern, specifically working with group sales, as well as general operational support.  I'm basically trying to sell ticket packages to groups, and doing set up and tear down at Cass Tech, while also working the games for concessions/merch.  It should be a lot of fun, being on the ground level of a first-year start-up team.  I'm quite excited; it's an amazing opportunity.

So far it's been an absolute blast, I feel very lucky to have this opportunity.  I'm a Sport Management major at M, so this is right up my alley.  I'm hoping to get a job in MLS, or perhaps with a minor league hockey or baseball team upon my graduation next May.

I'm gonna try and make it to a few games this season. Unfortunately I can't make it this weekend because of work. Looking forward to the season though!!

Hey dlcase, are there any other t-shirt or jersey options than what's on the website?  I'd love to get something to wear here in Chicago to support the team (plus I think the logo is really cool, and although I wouldn't have thought of those colors for Detroit, they look great).  If not, how do the sizes run, and is there a place I can get some more pictures of the shirts?  I'm generally a medium to large (assuming some shrink, I generally go large).  Thanks and good luck to the team.

I'm really hoping so as well. What's great about the stadium is that it is directly across the street from TV bar, and you can leave the game and come back in. I anticipate a lot of people heading over there at halftime, since we can't sell alcohol in the stadium.

This is pretty cool.  I think the crest/uniforms are pretty classy - like Euro-lite but simple.  Plus the nickname "Le Rouge" is a clever way to celebrate Detroit's French heritage.  I might show up at a few games with some Cass Tech alums I know.  Plus, love the soccer scarf.  I gotta get me one of them.

The scarves are awesome, and they'll definitely be for sale at the games. Along with celebrating Detroit's French heritage, I love that the team is sponsored solely by Detroit companies. The team is definitely about showcasing everything Detroit has to offer, from local talent to local bars and restaurants.

I'll be there! (see my signature)

I'll be the kid with a AS Roma scarf (already owned it and it's also red & orange). It should be a blast.

It's oneof the few "loopholes" in NCAA rules that make sense.  Players can't play on the same team as pros, but they can play against them.  This league is part of the fourth tier of the United States Soccer Pyramid, and is rougly equivalent to the PDL.  The PDL actually has one college team, BYU, that plays there as a club team instead of playing against other college club teams.

Soccer is unique in that there aren't any other sports in which players with college eligibility can play a true team sport in a league against professionals.

Just an FYI, the three main established supporters groups are meeting at Harrys ( about one block from the stadium), for beers and a meet and get hammered.

Starts at 3ish, with a group march in to the stadium at like 6:30-6:40
