UPDATE: Laquon Treadwell Not Visiting Ann Arbor this Weekend

Submitted by a2_electricboogaloo on

According to Sarah Hughes, Crete-Monee Wide Receiver Laquon Treadwell will be visiting ann arbor this weekend.

.@SuccessfulQuon tells me he'll be visiting Ann Arbor this Friday.#team134

Any visit is a good sign, and in the case of Treadwell, who is starting to become a regular in Ann Arbor, this is a great sign.  I will stress however,  I do not expect that he will commit this weekend.  Despite the addition of an additional WR in Csont'e York to our ever improving 2013 recruiting class, and that there are fewer spots available for him, I would be shocked if he chose us this weekend.  His high school coach doesn't allow decommitments and doesn't allow his players to visit other schools once they have commited somewhere (something that Treadwell has stated many times that he intends to do).  I hope he takes his time and makes the right and informed decision...assuming that decision lands him in a winged helmet.

UPDATE: Laquon just tweeted that there has been a change in plans, and he will not be visiting Ann Arbor this weekend.

No visit this week change of plans

I believe that was a mutual decision by Standifer and the coaches.  If I remember correctly, he did not take spanish in high school which meant he could not qualify/would not be admitted to UM.  His coach has a very strict policy against taking visits once you are committed.

He doesn't *allow* decommits? Why would it be his decision? Do you think maybe the player and his parents could make that call?

If the coach is just trying to teach good behavior, great, but if he's controlling the process, not so much. We've seen too much of that lately.

What would the coach do if a kid did decommit? Coach: "Sorry, you decommitted from a verbal commit and I'm going to not play you as punishment even though you're our best player."
Yea ok.

I will admit, I'm definitely getting my hopes up (at least somewhat). However, I don't think the timing of this announcement sounds like it had to with York's commitment, as there have been rumblings on twitter of Shane and Laquon planning this visit for a few days now.

Based on a tweet about Shane being his travel agent, this was in the works before York came into the fold. On the other hand, I don't know how many times you need to come to Ann Arbor before you make the call. Maybe we'll get lucky?

I won't expect a commit, but I don't think it's out of the question.  I heard that the spring game visit really helped us, plus he's already taken a ton of un-officials, so he doesn't really need the official visits to actually see schools.  The officials would be purely for fun and to get catered on.  Certainly everyone would want that, but if he also really likes Michigan, he would move his timetable up and sacrifice the officials.  He could still take an official to UM.  Oh, and he might be staying with Shane Morris this weekend...

Question: At what point did Laquon decide he was going to visit this weekend? Before or after Csont'e('s?) commitment?

This would help me determine how often I should check into mgoblog this weekend.

Yeah.. I was apparently just a tad too slow to get that one in. Question answered mid-type. I'm just going to go ahead and say it still probably won't keep me from pissing off my girlfriend at least once this weekend. She's not a big fan of "magoblog."

Also, even if this was in the works before York's committment, it is possible this changes things. Or that he was just getting tired of it all anyway, a la so many other top recruits out there.

I'd be shocked if he didn't commit.  What's the point of visiting yet again? Unofficials cost money and take time.  What would it say if he visited againt and didn't commit?

It doesn't seem like the same situation to me and I don't think anyone knows if Hoke would consider it the same. Pharaoh Brown had already committed and suddenly wanted to take visits. Treadwell would hypothetically just be asking to have a spot saved for him so he could commit after the season or whenever.
