F***. RIP, MCA. Time to grab my "Challah at your boy" shirt out of the closet and bump Paul's Boutique for the rest of the afternoon.

Jeebus I still rock out to a lot of my old Beasties records....RIP MCA!

Reasons to miss MCA:

He always knew what time it was: "I think you know what time it is, it's time to get Ill"

He had a beard like a Billy Goat

He was from Brooklyn

He was a Praying Mantis on the court

He was pro-Tibet before it was cool

I am really bummed by this.  I've loved me some b-boys since the eighties.  I know MCA has been sick for a while, but this still really sucks.  Thank you, Adam, and keep it ill - wherever you are.

I'm a big fan. What a group, over 25 years of music and over 40 million records sold.

hard to believe that I started listening to them in the seventh grade. I'm pushing 40 now and still jam to the Beastie Boys.

Damn, that is sad. I had heard some years ago that he was sick, but I didn't know it was serious. Beasties were and always will be the shit. And Fuck Nick Chase for talking shit about them being inducted in the HOF. Quit spinning the same 10 shitty songs everyday.

I can't say much about lessons here, I have the gene. I know if I had his money and life I would not have made it past 40 I heard a saying that apply's to me I wonder if it could apply to him, it goes like this..(One beer is too many and 20 beer's is never enough)

Man, cancer is a scary, horrible disease.  I feel like almost everytime that I hear someone died it is due to cancer, whether in the news or personally.  Makes you wonder if we are going to need to undergo some massive lifestyle changes to avoid it becoming even more problematic.  I wonder if the magnitude of chemicals we are exposed to everyday in food, cleaning products, industrial products etc, and all of the electromagnetic fields that we are surrounded by due to everything going wireless, has had an effect on cancer rates.

Disclaimer: I have zero expertise or knowledge on this issue.  Just speculating.

After doing a bit of research this link: http://seer.cancer.gov/csr/1975_2009_pops09/browse_csr.php gives some good information.  You can search by type of cancer, and see incidence rates, death rates, rates by age etc etc.  Some very interesting info.

Cancer rates seem to have rose a bit overall in the last 35-40 years, but less people are dying from it.  Incidence growth rates vary greatly depending on the trype of cancer though.  For example, lung cancer has lowered, while testicular cancer has almost doubled.  I would be interested in seeing the numbers from before 1975.  Don't know if this information exists though.

I wonder how much of this has to do with the fact that we have a more aged population. There is a higher percentage of the population over the age of 50 than ever before (I think, without looking this up), so it would make sense that the incidence rate would be higher. I don't know if that explains the entire change though.

would be my favorite joint. I recall their debut on Soul Train and how they were embraced by the Soul Train audience. Love what the BB brought to the rap game back in the mid-eighties,when it was a black thing.

A jaw dropper to learn...RIP MCA!!!

It was his time, after all he's been ill since the mid 80's.

/bad insensitive joke

But seriously, sad to see him go.  The Beastie Boys were still making good music.

Paul's Boutique was one of the first cd's I ever bought when I got my car, and I've loved the Beastie Boys ever since then.
