MOAR OT: Whatcha all working on/doing this afternoon?

Submitted by profitgoblue on

Some of you enjoyed this thread last Friday so I figured I'd strike it up again today.

I'm not going to do a damn thing for the rest of the day.  The majority of my business people are at the Wells Fargo Championshio down here at Quail Hollow (which is a beautiful course, by the way) and I'm stuck here.  So I've decided to take a flier for the rest of the day.  My plan is to:

1.  Do some research on YouTube to become a better Battlefield 3 multiplayer.  There is a staggering number of videos and I intend to spend a good 2 hours watching some.

2.  The little dude is coming up to the office to monkey around a bit.  He loves visiting daddy at work.

3.  Probably going to hit up Chick-fil-A for a chocolate milkshake before we head for home.

4.  Profit (no pun intended).

Whatcha all up to on your end?  Anything exciting?

P.S.  I'll be playing some Battlefield 3 late-night tonight (starting at around 1am). if anyone is interested, PSN me and we'll shoot some enemies.

Arguing about the proper definition of "academic disengagement" with colleagues from other research universities. Feeling a little smug because of U-M's recognized stature in the world. #sorrynotsorry

The best thing to do on a Friday! As someone who works in the Auto industry... it's so much paperwork. You have no idea how obnoxious getting anything done on a car is.

BSME 2009 from Michigan, I work for a tier 1 (and sometimes tier 2) auto supplier outside Chicago (not where the company is headquartered) as a product engineer. I work with OEMs to design components that they want and then work within the plant/manufacturing side to get them made.

I've only been at the job since August and I deal mostly with OEMs. It's a fun industry though, and definitely a fun time to be in it. Politics aside, before the economy went boom in 2008 (right before I graduated... wasn't that awesome) Americans bought 16M cars a year like clockwork. After the April numbers came in it seems like 14.5-15M is on the table for 2012... which is pretty sweet for the industry. Tons of new cars are coming out all the time, pretty much the whole mid-size (D) and compact (C) segments are new. The sub-compact (B) segment just came to the States... it's a great time to be a car nerd.

Crafting a report informing a nuclear power plant how to load their latest batch of fuel. And then finishing opening up my pool so I can float around drinking in it until October/November.

I was trying to follow the MLB playoffs on my honeymoon in Greece in 2004 with no laptop/smartphone.  I was upset at the lack of info until I realized the Yankees were collapsing against Boston.  Let's just say I'll always remember that playoff year, though I deny it happened since I was out of the USA.

Updating a water network with GPS I collected yesterday.  Not as exciting as it sounds.  Laid off the Swiss Cake rolls and Coke this week because I had Waffle House for lunch.  I was going to make a comment about your #2 activity until I realized your kid was involved.  The first sentence still makes me laugh (yes, I am a ten year old).  My daughter's molars are coming in so I'm sure I'll have a pitiful little girl waiting for me at home.  I actually enjoy her wanting comfort since she's become so independent recently.  Happy weekend all!

Quail Hollow as in Charlotte?  A mere stone's throw from where my grandparents used to live.

I don't think this is going to be a productive afternoon.  Check back next week when I've actually started my job.  I did put the screen windows up this morning.  That probably earned me my evening drink(s) later on.

not a thing...just graduated, grad school starts in July, so couldn't get an internship. I will also be checking the mgoboard about once every 10 minutes to alleviate the boredom.

Glad somebody is curious...

I am finishing up some statistics on the relative contribution of various planning areas with our service region of the company to the backlogged jobs in the design queue. It's not terribly interesting unless you plan to attend a meeting where they will be asking your group why it takes you so long to design work for electric distribution systems.

Yes, I admit...I have an Excel problem.

Seeing patients until 5PM

Probably will hit Annapolis with the wife, doggy if it doesn't rain.  50 cent oysters at McGarvey's until 8PM!

Just bullcrapped my way into a Chick-Fil-A convention for execs and scored some free (quality) food. A suit and a few neologisms will get you a long way. Apparently neither the long hippie-type hair nor the fact that I'm 15 years younger than everyone else tipped them off...

Wrapped up my patient follow-up and email early for the week, so I'm going to get some non-work tasks done at work, while refreshing mgoblog every 5.

I imagine a section of the newspaper and the lovely extra tall, throne-like toilet in the handicapped stall will feature prominently in my afternoon
