Nebraska RB Aaron Green to Transfer

Submitted by hart20 on

Nebraska RB Aaron Green will be transferring from Nebraska. This is a pretty big loss for Nebraska. He was a 5-star to ESPN and Scout and a 4-star to Rivals and 24/7. He had a decent season as a true freshman:

Green appeared in 12 games as a freshman last season, rushing 24 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns and catching one pass for 25 yards and a TD.

It seems that a lot of Nebraska fans felt that that Green would be the #2 back this year and the starter once Burkhead left. It seems he left because he was unhappy splitting carries with Abdullah at the #2 back.

It's one thing to back up Burkhead for another year, but he had fewer carries than two other freshmen. It's no shock to see a Texas kid unhappy after their move to the Big Ten. Nebraska is going to have a lot harder time recruiting down there.

Can't please everyone i guess. Watch him transfer to usc and split carries with 10 other tailbacks

Part of me wishes high profile kids like this would stay put, because I like when we beat good Teams. But I don't like to share, and I'm still bitter over 97, so "Meh" who cares!

I hope it's worth sitting out a year for him. You gotta compete and earn your spot. You're not entitled to that spot. Good luck to him.

Unless he feels he has a right to start being a five star. I imagine its hard to keep  those ego's in line. Not that I pitty the coaches today but they have their hands full when a kid becomes a star BEFORE he ever steps on campus. I guess we take the blame on that one, I do have Scouts, Rivals, in my favorites how bout you?

Honestly I think Dantanio has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Canada are starting to believe him. Never in a million years would I have thought that.  Selling jerseys in Canada is a good start. From comments following the story in the OP link:

joetooeasy: Youre probably right. But, in the last 15 yrs I have never seen a MSU jersey in Canada. But since they have been winning I have seen a few!

I think he just felt he wouldn't play much. Burkhead, Martinez, and Abdullah, and Heard got more carries. We even moved Heard to DB to break up the logjam.  Also just added two big FB's as well, one a transfer the other a recruit.

I think you'll see the Huskers try to go with a more bruising style running game now that we're in the B1G, Green said he wanted the ball in space.

If a player isn't happy they should transfer.  Best of luck to him!

What I think is more intriguing is looking at how Nebraska's switch to the Big Ten will impact similar recruits.  He wanted to be closer to home- maybe playing most games in his home region instead of midwest would have been ok had he been at Nebraska while they were in Big12.

Nebraska went from football rich TX-centered recruiting conference to Big Ten which has a hugely different recruiting area- it'll be interesting to see if they still will get TX/Big12 area recruits or if they will switch to Big Ten footprint for recruiting much more.

It seems like any player who doesn't start as a freshman is "unhappy" nowadays.  This is really an insult to the upperclassmen on any team who have worked their asses off to get where they are.

The Nebraska fans on this board have been quite classy.  I haven't seen any of them post yet, but I am guessing that they would have about the same response as we do here when someone leaves:

"If he doesn't want to play here, the team is better off without him."

Shouldn't judge the kid when we have no idea what's actually going on. For instance, maybe it has something to do with the Ron Brown situation. If this were the case (and I'm not saying it is), Aaron Green is absolutely not deserving of condemnation.
