Video: OSU and ND Spring Game Highlights

Submitted by Thorin on

In case you missed the tweet this morning, I wrote a rant on mgoangst. My boredom will probably lead to more spring game every snap videos shortly.

Ohio's D looks terrible.  Out of position, very little pass rush, missed tackles, big busted coverage.  I do realize that these are just highlights though and are offensively slanted.

I agree about eliminating the /s.  I never use it anyway.  If people are really so oblivious that they can't understand sarcasm, the "worst" that can happen is "minus one mgopoint" under the current system.

Mgoblog prides itself on being the most intelligent commuity in the sports blog-o-verse.  Is it really necessary to explain sarcasm to such an intelligent group?

I'm jumping on this bandwagon, although I feel like the writer can shoulder some of the blame as well.  If the writing doesn't convey the sarcasm, fail. Regardless of the blame, that /s thing is annoying.

is worried about a defense that gave up 26 points to Purdue and 40 to us? I think expectations are a little high in year one.  Let's see if you can make a bowl game before you (ohio fans in general) start claiming that you'll win multiple NCs in the next 5 years.

ND running backs look fast and solid. but other than that ehh.

Ohio looks like when meyer was in florida for the last year. and their defense looks awful.

Did anyone else get the sense that ND was playing with a lot more intensity than Ohio?  Seemed like they were running faster and hitting harder to me.  Obviously I'm not expecting Ohio to be loafing when the season rolls around but I thought it was interesting.  Also Ohio's secondary looked a lot like ours two years ago.  Lots of space.

The OSU offense seems to be tearing up the defense, which is basically the exact opposite of how it should be. I doubt that Urban has turned them into a juggernaut so quickly, so might they have some questions on defense?

Braxton badly underthrew a receiver for a 40-45 yard gain.  Sometimes the offense can make the defense look poor, but I don't think that is the case for them today.  The defensive woes looked self inflicted.

It is only April, but I wonder if Urban regrets signing that contract with his family.  I'm sure he realizes he needs to put in more time with this team right now.  Does he have an out clause for that contract?

Wow ND's defense looks horrible... The LBs are reading run... and then both run to get eaten by blocks. Not to mention confusion in man coverage by their secondary. Of course, it's just a spring game so it doesn't mean anything, but they need to be wary with that. Whomever #38 and #28 are, they are very bad. Out of place on 4 of those highlights.

As for Ohio, a lot of those highlights seem to be the main result of miscommunication in zone coverage. It looks like they are running a Cover 3 in a lot of those highlights and nobody is picking up the receivers who are doing digs/sitting in zones. That's a recurring strategic problem that they probably will work heavily on in the fall.

What are they doing at the 1 minute mark of the Ohio highlights?  I am unfamiliar with this play.  It appears the QB is on his knee?  And then the running back (full back?) kicks the ball?

Miller looked good as did Thomas. Ohio is going to be short of receivers this year. Urban is preaching a young fun cutthroat brand of football that will be very attractive to top talent. Ohio is going to have solid linebacking and d line play.

Notre dame looked pretty weak defensively. The qb carousel will likely continue and Kelly's face will be purple by mid September. Notre dame did look good at the rb position. Daniels looked legit and Eifert is simply a matchup nightmare.

I'm still not afraid of Miller's arm. I know he kind of torched us last year, but he was way off on some of his throws in that game and our secondary will be improved. He's still a poor man's Denard in my eyes.

It’s always tough to tell from spring game footage, especially highlights, but ND’s defense looks awful. Sit everyone except Manti Te’o, because they’re just getting in his way. Although I suppose our defense wasn't very impressive in our spring game either. Anyway, thanks for posting this.

should be noted that John Simon diidn't play much in the spring game and he's gonna be Huge for them this fall,

I think they pretty much did what we did with Denard i.e. "We know you're a beast, so let's see what everyone else can do"

Video only shows the tunovers and offensive highlights. Defense was solid and front 7 is very good again. Safeties are good but the corner besides Bennett Jackson is a big question mark. #4 George Atkinson III is electric but is also 6'1" so he is hard to bring down. Cierre Wood got bigger but with our RBs he won't be needed to carry 30 times a game. WRs are a big ?. Davaris Daniels #16 needs to step up to help replace floyd. Our TEs are the best group in the country. Besides Eifert we moved 6'7" Troy Niklas from OLB to TE and immediately started playing with the 1st team. He was out with a concussion for this game. Everett Golson looked Really Good. Rees sucks. Hendrix has accuracy problems. Look for Golson to start.
