All-2000s Michigan team on NCAA 12

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

For anyone who plays NCAA Football 12 or any other version, I have just finished my first team in a series of all-decade teams I will be doing.

I have the authentic heights and weights of the players, from their senior year or their last year as Wolverine.

My ID is WolverineDevotee. If you want to add me on PS3, my PSN is WolverineDevotee.

I know he stunk in the pros and hasnt been a great citizen off the field either but what about David Terrell.  His 2000 season was nuts.  13TDs?

QB    7   Chad Henne                 2004-2007

        16  John Navarre                2000-2003

        15  Ryan Mallett                  2007

        16  Denard Robinson         2009-present

Hmmm...not alphabetical...not numerical...not chronological...not based on time served...not based on number of starts...why is Ryan Mallet your 3rd QB?  Or are they in 'no particular order'?

People beat me to Jamar Adams. Probably the best safety we've had in a long time. I did a study on that in Aug '09. I'd have him start and move LeSeuer to the cornerbacks.

Other suggestions:

QB    7   Chad Henne                 2004-2007

        16  John Navarre                2000-2003

        15  Ryan Mallett                  2007

        16  Denard Robinson         2009-present

Lose Mallett. I guess your QB is based on the offense you want to run. Hard not to use Denard. On the other hand he became a starter in 2010 so he shouldn't even be included and this should read Henne, Navarre, Forcier

RB   20  Mike Hart                      2004-2007

        23  Chris Perry                   2000-2003

         4   Brandon Minor             2006-2009

        23  Carlos Brown               2005-2008

        24  Jerome Jackson          2003-2006

You don't need Jerome Jackson. I guess Carlos Brown > David Underwood or any other myriad backups to "the man." I'd be tempted to go McGuffie there but that's just me. Brown's good.

FB   35  B.J. Askew                   1999-2002

DUDLEY! 32 man. Especially since you are going to have Askew above C.Brown on your HB depth chart you need a blocking FB here and Dudders is the DUDE!

WR  1   Braylon Edwards          2001-2004

         8  Jason Avant                  2002-2005

        86  Mario Mannigham        2005-2007

        15  Steve Breaston             2002-2006

       16   Adrian Arrington            2004-2007

        19  Ron Bellamy                 1999-2002

        17  Carl Tabb                      2002-2006

        21  Junior Hemingway       2007-2011

        27  Calvin Bell                    2000-2003

You're reaching at the end there. Bellamy might be at the very end of the list if you need a depth chart this long. I'd cut out Tabb and Bell (though I liked Tabb a lot) and slot in Martavious Odoms and Greg Mathews. My depth chart reads:

SE: Braylon, Manningham, Arrington

FL: Avant, Hemingway, Mathews

SL: Breaston, Odoms, Roundtree

Breaston's my KR and PR of course. Rotate this position heavily. You can put Braylon or Mario in the slot if you need to create havoc.

TE    83  Bennie Joppru             1998-2002

        88   Tim Massaquoi            2001-2005

        85   Carson Butler              2005-2008

        89   Tyler Ecker                  2002-2006

MANBEARFREAK isn't going on my team. Gimme Martell Webb instead for my blocking game instead of Butler.

LT    77   Jake Long                   2003-2007

        79   Adam Stenavich         2001-2005

        62   Courtney Morgan       1999-2003

LG  57   Adam Kraus                2003-2007

        65   Leo Henige                 2001-2005

C     75   David Baas                 2000-2004

        50   David Molk                 2007-2011

RG   67   Matt Lentz                  2001-2005

        76   Dave Petruziello        1998-2002

        73   Alex Mitchell               2004-2007

RT   77   Tony Pape                  1999-2003

       72    Rueben Riley             2002-2006

       52    Stephen Schilling      2006-2010

Argh you put Schilling at guard (I'm talking to you because successive M coaches wouldn't listen to me). Molk should start at center. When you make your starting lineup, put Baas in at guard (where he was before anyway) and bring in Dave Pearson of the Daves. We don't need Alex Mitchell on this team. Give me Ortmann before him.

LT: Long, Stenavich, Morgan

LG: Baas, Schilling, Henige

C: Molk, Pearson

RG: Kraus, Lentz, Petruziello

RT: Pape, Riley

                  DEFENSE

LE   56    LaMarr Woodley       2003-2006

       13    Larry Stevens            2000-2003

       90    Tim Jamison             2004-2007

You mean RE (WDE) for this. This is rush end. I'd swap Stevens for Orr.

DT  90    Alan Branch               2004-2006

       91   Rondell Biggs            2003-2006

       60    Grant Bowman          1999-2003

       78   Gabe Watson            2002-2005

       97    Will Johnson            2004-2008

What is this, a 3-4? A 3-3-5? And you left out Terrance Taylor! And Biggs is exterior.

NT: Watson, Taylor, Lazarus

DT: Branch, W.Johnson, Bowman, Heuer

RE  55    Brandon Graham     2006-2009

       94    Pat Massey              2001-2005

       53    Shantee Orr             1999-2002

Massey? Oh man no way. Nowaynowaynoway. We have words now. BG, Stevens, Biggs are your SDEs opposite Woodley, Orr and Jamison.

LLB  6     Prescott Burgess     2003-2006

        58   Roy Manning            2000-2004

        37   Chris Graham           2003-2007

MLB  45  David Harris              2002-2006

         36 Scott McClintock       2001-2005

RLB  2    Shawn Crable           2003-2006

         6   Victor Hobson          1998-2002

        43  Carl Diggs                2000-2003

The linebackers don't make much sense. The OLB job descriptions have changed around over that period but there has still been two positions other than MLB that should be separated: WLB and SAM. I know the NCAA series used to have "ROLB" and "LOLB" which were basically interchangeable but Michigan's defensive iterations in this time were basically the 4-3 Even, the 3-4 with Woodley as an OLB, the Ron English Nickelfest (essentially Brandon Harrison), the 4-3/3-3-5/whatthehellisthis?, the Passive 3-3-5, and the 4-3 Under. In each of those except the mostly-nickel years there was a type of SAM who did a lot of pass rushing and taking on blocks, and if he was in coverage it was the slot, not deep. And in each of those iterations the WLB did have vertical coverage responsibilities.

If the 2000s begin in 2000, then you must include Larry Foote. I'd have Lawrence Reid or Zach Kaufman in there before I had Scott McClintock.

So new linebacker depth chart:

  • ROLB (WLB): Burgess, Reid, Manning
  • MLB: Harris, Foote, Diggs
  • LOLB (SAM): Hobson, Crable, S.Brown

I like this depth chart since it gives you three different looks out of the SAM spot: use Hobson for typical run-stuffing situations, throw in Crable for a 3rd down pass rush, and play Stevie Brown against spread teams. I'd probably make Larry Foote the WLB rather than play him behind Harris and force Burgess onto the field.

CB   29  Leon Hall                 2003-2006

         3   Marlin Jackson         2001-2004

        30  Markus Curry           2001-2004

        13  Grant Mason            2001-2005

        14  Morgan Trent           2005-2008

Donovan Warren! He's easily behind Marlin. Also add LeSeur to this group. Curry would be the first out if you need to cut. Then Mason, then LeSeuer, then Trent. Brandon Harrison would be good to add, mostly because he gives you good play at the nickel and dime.

FS    25  Ernest Shazor         2001-2004

         31  Brandent Englemon    2003-2007

         21  Jeremy LeSeur        1999-2002

Shazor was a SS actually. As mentioned above, move him out and put Jamar Adams in. Even thought Adams was mostly an SS as well, he was the best FS we had. After Englemon put Troy Woolfolk or Charles Drake. Either works.

SS    2    Cato June                1999-2002

        21   Ryan Mundy            2003-2006

Cato was always so injured  but yeah, Shazor bumps him down and then this spot makes sense.

K     38    Garrett Rivas           2003-2006

P     41   Zoltan Mesko           2005-2009

Excelsior! Adam Finley makes a good backup for either spot and KOS.

PR: Breaston, Marlin Jackson, if you kept Markus Curry he goes here. If not, F-it, Greg Mathews U CATCH DAMN BALL

KR: Breaston & Odoms, LeSeuer

Will you be able to take your roster from one game to the next? I don't see myself playing 2012 again. Maybe if you are making a 90s team it be better to hold off until the new game comes out

TeamBuilder schools are able to be played with on any game that supports teambuilder. I could download a team made on the 10 version, and someone could download my 12 version teams onto NCAA 10.
