Bulletin Board Remark from Dantonio

Submitted by CincyBlue on

On Michigan getting a lot of good press this off season after a BCS win and very good recruiting:

"We're laying in the weeds," Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio says with a half smile. "We've beat Michigan the last four years. So where's the threat?"

As long as MSU needs Michigan to validate themselves, while MIchigan only needs Michigan to validate themselves, MSU will continue to be in an inferior position, wondering why they get called "little brother."

Isn't Michigan trying to validate its own program if some nerd who works for the team flocks to Facebook to call Dantonio's comment (which was brought up by media personnel, mind you) "bulletin board material"?

I have no idea what else he could say.  Its not like he can sit there and say "Yeah, Michigan is more talented and now with Brady there they are likely to run off another six game winning streak."  Even if he sees the downfall coming, he still has to say things to keep his players, recruits, alum, and fanbase happy.

He says stuff like this because he needs this rivalry to be bigger than it has been for the sake of his own his program.  The more attention from us that he can steal from OSU, the better.  It's kind of sad that they use us to be relevant.

He's right, they've beat us the past 4 years. And that's all they've really done! I remember watching the Hoke press conference after last years MSU game. He said all the right things, that the game was fair and clean, but he looked like he just got jumped. He looked like he had come from the locker room with the team where he was angry. He looked pissed. No way he will let them come into our house and win after last year. He won't let the team forget the cheap shots, the taunts or the GIFs. I think this is one game Hoke tells Borges to keep scoring and Mattison to keep blitzing.

They also finished 6-7 one of those years and lost at home to a Mac team. But Sparty being Sparty bases their entire football existence around Michigan so whatever.

My favorite part about this is that if they ask Hoke his opinion, his response would be "Well, uh.... They've got a good football team, but I'm just focused on Michigan right now."

I'm confident that we'll beat Sparty this year (in no small part because we're at home).  Given recruiting and what Hoke has been able to do with this team I wouldn't be surprised if we went on to beat them at a Bo-like clip for teh next decade with few close games.  Dantonio will handle this in an even shoddier fashion than he handles winning.  Sparty will defend him, but all of his current bluster only serves to focus more attention on that game, and will only serve to make it more painful when the losing starts.  "Laying in the weeds"...indeed.

Its these kind of things that keep the "little brother" label alive.  Unsolicited advice:  Just live your own life, MSU, and worry about yourself.  Otherwise, you just look stupid.

I really couldn't care any less about what Dantonio has to say about us. We all know that MSU's existence is built around us, so what's another quote by Groucho Mark?

It is hard for his statement to be great bulletin board material when, inside of it, is a fact which in itself should be all the fuel we need - they have beaten us four years in a row. What grates my nerves regarding this statement, if anything, is that it starts with faux humility, and it merely confirms my perception of Dantonio as an essentially insecure man whose sense of well-being is partially premised on Michigan's successes, like much of the Spartan fan base, so in the end, this means nothing. It just confirms the Napoleon complex.

I await our game this fall - I, for one, am curious about how ridiculously deep at long snapper they are.

they are also very good at growing the weed to hide in.  the best weed, both for hiding in and for use in other horticultural and medical activites, can be found in and around east landing.  not that there is anything wrong with that.  hiding in weed physically, or hiding in it metaphorically by utilizing its medical qualities, is what mark is doing and doing well.
