OT: Fundraiser Help

Submitted by Eric on

So I'm part of a golf outing/fundraiser that is going into it's second year.  It's in memory of my friend Matt who died of brain cancer when we were 20 years old. Here is the facebook link for the golf outing:

Matt was a close friend of mine and one of the greatest kids you ever met. He was diagnosed with brain cancer at 14 years old. He went into remission for several years, but when the cancer came back the 2nd time it was too much for his body to handle. With the help from several people, a golf outing was started last year in his name.  We donate the money to a child that is battling cancer. This is for them to do what they like with the money.  The money this year is going to a 4 year old girl from my town.  Her father is a season ticket holder at U of M and she's being treated at Mott. She also has brain cancer.

Part of the fundraising is that several people are making baskets to be auctioned off.  The baskets are themed. I am doing a basket and I chose Michigan, obviously, to be my theme.  There is another group that is doing an OSU themed basket.  Somehow they obtained a mini-helmet that is autographed by Archie Griffin.  This is where you all come in.

I'm looking for any kind of donation to beat the OSU basket. I don't want to be outdone by them!  The money is going to a great cause and the competition will help raise more money!

For those of you that don't know me, I share my sideline photos of Michigan football and basketball on this blog. I will be donating a couple of 20 x 30 posters of my photos. If anybody has anything that they're willing to donate, please contact me at [email protected]. Thanks in advance!

MGoBlue says they're currently restructuring their process for autograph requests, but you could always try and contact the AD or coaches. From my experience, trying to contact athletes is a no-no, but shooting an email to someone in Schembechler Hall or to Berenson or Beilein (or better yet whoever handles PR requests for each program) shouldn't cause any problems, and the worst they can do is say no.

Another thought: if you can't get a response from, say, Hoke, you might want to try someone who isn't getting 5,000 of these requests per day. It might be a less "prestigious" basket, but I would have to assume a request to baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, ect. would be more likely to get through to the people that make decisions, thus into your basket. Moeller or Carr would be another route to go, since I'm betting they're about 1% as busy as Hoke at the moment.

I'm sure if you stay after it and are willing to get creative, you'll put the Buckeye group in their place and get to see your basket raise some cash to honor your friend. Good luck.

Try contacting some of the legends. Braylon Edwards, Woodson, Desmond, Tom Brady, Woodley. I am sure if they can, they would all be interested in beatout out some buckeye for a good cause. They will also result in much smaller chance of ncaa violation. Also as mentioned above. Lloyd Carr would be a good contact, as he would be able to contact others as well.
