Greg Webb to PSU
Per BWI Rivals
Ryan Snyder @ BWISnyder
Timber Creek DT Greg Webb has verbally committed to # PennState
C'mon Poggi Go Blue!
Poggi is a 3-tech/SDE, Greg Webb was being recruited at the nose.
If Crayton and Webb are out of the picture, I'm not sure who's up next at the nose.
this guy Poet Thomas?

I'm not sure how much interest is there from Michigan. I think his big offers might be to play along the line. Not sure about that.
Kenton Gibbs out of Cass Tech would probably jump at an offer and he has been on campus, but he doesn't have any BCS offers yet.
Ya, he's visited twice on his own to seek one out. I think they can't offer him because he would jump on it in a second like Drake Johnson and Dennis Norfleet. If they miss on some guys he'll see the offer.
With Pipkins coming in, NT is not a pressing need. I'm actually not too bummed about losing Webb to PSU since it keeps him away from Ohio.
On a related note, O'Brien seems to be turning some heads. Maybe he does know a thing or two about running a college program.
Perhaps it is the "I coached Tom Brady" thing, like Mattison has with Ray Lewis, although this guy is a defensive player.
More likely it's Larry Johnson and his track record at putting D-linemen into the NFL.
But they were all busts in the NFL. Sometimes you can't help it to be a bust, but at some point it becomes a pattern. Off the top of my head, I can't think of one Penn St. lineman that has actually lived up to their expectations based off the position they were drafted.
Off the top of my head, Tamba Hali has had a great pro career as a DE/LB hybrid at KC. Odrick has also been solid so far for Miami
That's a two-way street. Jeff Tedford's quarterbacks used to always flame out in the NFL before Aaron Rodgers, but if Tedford was getting such good production from QBs that turned out to be not as good as they looked in college, maybe Tedford was doing something that makes these guys look good. Another way to say that is maximizing their potential.
Didn't Ohio get more recruits that were committed to other teams last year than were uncommitted? They took at least three away from Penn State.
O'Brien didn't fully assume his duties as PSU's coach until a couple of days before signing day (which was almost a full month after he was hired). It's kind of easy to poach kids from a school that effectively doesn't have a head coach, especially one at the center of a massive child abuse scandal.
It is a down year in the midwest for DTs.
Like the poster said above, Thomas might be an option. But, I think he will be a late offer type of guy if we strike out on other guys.
A strong PSU is good for Michigan and the B1G. Hopefully, we can pull Poggi to fill our need at DT.
You have to be kidding me.
Just kind of the way things are going to be for us the next 8 months or so. Gonna be a whole lot more misses than makes on the recruiting trail.
Bite your tongue. We will just start taking 4 and 5 star preferred walk-ons once the class is full. Seriously though, I'm looking forward to and a little creeped out by the prospect of seeing 2014 guys start committing soon.
damn
That sucks. How is Penn State doing this with Banhammer to Bolivia looming over their program? Is there a timetable on their NCAA investigation yet?
I'm not sure if you're serious. I haven't heard of the hammer coming down on the football program but do you really think loss of scholarships/bowl games is the right punishment for what happened? People need to go to jail...I could care less if their athletic teams suffer.
I was serious. The last I heard the NCAA was going to look into possible violations. It's been a while since I had heard anything, thus the question of anyone knowing the timetable. I wasn't trying to restir the pot. I thought it was a legitimate question but I was apparently wrong. Not the first time and surely not the last.
Edit: I also agree that NCAA punishment will not bring justice for the criminal acts committed. However, I'm sure this case has many layers of dirt that need sifted. If there are NCAA violations, should they be ignored out of respect for the victims? I think you can punish the crime and the violations if they occurred.
I seriously doubt that anything will come of the NCAA investigation into the Sandusky scandal.
Oh absolutely. But the Feds will bust individuals who were found to have committed wrongdoing; they won't punish the football program. The most they'll do is fine the university or withold federal funding, which won't affect anyone currently associated with their football program since their football program is mostly self-sufficient.
The NCAA sanctioning PSU over the Sandusky scandal would be like Netflix canceling Scott Peterson's subscription for killing Laci. Football seems pretty trivial in light of what's being alleged.
did he ever visit?
I don't think he did. There were reports of him planning visits to both OSU and Michigan. I guess he wont be taking those visits anymore.
DAMN, I wanted this kid.
Good. PSU hasn't won an NC since 86. All they are good for is keeping Pennsylvania recruits away from Columbus, and occasionally beating the Buckeyes. So a strong Penn State is good for Michigan. Go Lions.
In fairness, they got royally screwed in '94 and their record against the Buckeyes over the past 10 years is better than ours.
Yeah, Meyer really cooled on Webb, but I'm sure if he really wants Webb on the buckeyes, he'll get him.
It is somewhat impressive in light of everything going on over there and their fans' overwhelmingly negative reaction to the O'Brien hire. I actually find myself kind of rooting for the guy.
THat is the same as PSU now. I dont like PSU because of the crap they gave Rich Rod. I remember the clever signs they had.
I can't say I'm disappointed. When it sounded like UM had a great shot, I watched his video and he didn't seem overly impressive*. I think Josh Augusta looks better.
*Disclaimer: I'm not a coach nor have I played defensive line since the 4th grade.
Penn State will probably set the record for single-year improvements in recruiting class rankings. Looks like last year on rivals they were outside the top 50 and now they're looking at finishing in the top 10 easily
Do we have a realistic chance with Eddie Vanderdoes?

Augusta is quickly rising and his video looks great. Poggi and either Vanderdoes or Augusta would be great.
No worries.. he will be devoured by our offensive line.
