I'm not sure the point you're trying to get to. I groin or hamstring injury do not occur at the muscle-tendon junction, they typically occur in the belly of the muscle. It's theoretical that an injury occurs from a muscular imbalance, it's proven. More then likely, he is lacking proper glute activation and the groin is trying to take over and it can't, so injury occurred.

Leyland says he will start at 2B vs LHP. This is bullshit. They say he hits better vs LHP than RHP, which is true, as he hits .220 vs LHP and like .130 vs RHP. But Santiago hits .320 vs LHP. It doesn't make any sense. I don't care how much money he makes. I don't care how much community service he does. I don't care how much Illitch likes him. He needs to be gone. He's not a good player anymore

This +1000000000000000000. I feel bad for Santiago he has stayed loyal to the Organization when he knew he could have left and probably got more playing time somewhere else but he didn't go and they continue to disrespect him by putting guys at second out there who are not as good defensively or offensively for that matter. He's a pretty good defender and when given the opportunity he has shown he can hit when needed. He deserves to be the first player off the bench to get playing time if something were to happen to Jhonny or Raburn (or whoever is at second)

Waste of time and money, cut his ass already. The teams loyalty to this clown is ridiculous, he was never that good.

Putting him on the DL is just delaying the inevitable.

...the smart business decision would be to cut Inge so that those fans need to buy new jerseys.  Or maybe those fans just need to grow up since adults shouldn't be wearing jerseys anyhow (unless they are Buckeyes, of course).

Also, I can't believe Inge has lasted this long.  I thought he was done after the 2002 & 2003 seasons when he batted .202 & .203 respectively.  The team was dreadful back then and it would have been the perfect time to drop his saggy stats as the Tigers were beginning to climb out of the cellar.

That said, the constant line about how he hits better than his BA shows is getting old. It's true, he does seem to make pretty good contact pretty often, but he just can't hit the gaps anymore.

Good Lord. This assclown has been over his head since '07. And not only did the Tigers resign him, they continue to hope and pray that he might be able to hit one day and keep parading him out there. Blind loyalty is what kills franchises. Thankfully the rest of the roster is in good shape but he needs to go. Like...three years ago.

You know spring has sprung when the weather starts to warm, leaves start appearing on trees, and people start bitching about/defending Brandon Inge.

(Seriously though, there shouldn't even be a question about what to do with a soon-to-be 35 year-old who hits .200 at best.)

Whether he really does end up platooning at second or if he is indeed eventually released from  the Tigers, you would hope that - whatever happens - he is at least somewhat grateful that  the Tigers have given him - quite literally - every opportunity to find a viable place in the organization. I don't know how many teams would have given him second, third....fourteenth chances. The club has been extremely patient with Brandon Inge, but personally, I think the end may finally be nigh for the Inge era (if not now, then likelt sometime this season). I think the acquisition of Fielder and moving Cabrera to third was a signal that time was growing short and that the offer of time at second base for  Inge was pretty much a last ditch proposition.

I wrote this elsewhere, but I'll put it here, too.

Inge had 76 total bases last year in 103 games. Delmon Young, in 40 games as a Tiger, had 77, in about 170 fewer AB's (~300 AB's vs about 130 for Delmon).

Inge was 13th on the team last season in total bases. The only guys who were below him were guys that hung around a month or two (Sizemore, Worth, Guillen, etc).

Only Omir Santos had a lower OPS than Inge last season, regardless of at bats, and excluding pitchers in interleague play.

They cannot defend putting Inge in the lineup. They just cannot do so with any integrity. It's over. The days of putting in a .135 hitting-Ray Oyler (SS on the '68 Tigers, for those of you that don't know) in the lineup are long over. You have to be able to bring something to the table when you come to the batter's box.
