OT: Nike's NFL Jerseys Debut Today

Submitted by JeepinBen on

What it says in the title. Nike was awarded the NFL uniform contract in 2010 and they're debuting all the new gear today. There aren't going to be too many crazy changes due to some NFL rules about how often you can redesign your jerseys... but there might be some crazy concepts or "throwbacks" that debut, I don't know the NFL rules about that.

EDIT: Wow, the hype machine was on today. For most teams, no changes:

There is a rule in the NFL: If a franchise changes their logo/jerseys, they cannot make another change for a window of 5 years. For example, the Lions changed both in 09, and therefore cannot make any design changes yet, so their new Nike jerseys will be basically the same as before.

Obviously teams like the Steelers, Cowboys, Giants etc. have traditional jerseys that are probably not going to change significantly due to said tradition and fan bases that might blow up at changes.

It will be interesting to see how they all look, and hopefully Michigan switches back to Nike when their current contract is done. (and don't use pro-combats as an excuse to why we should not switch back...Bama, PSU, USC all are Nike and do not have horrid pro-combats, we wouldn't either)

I'm anxious to see what Nike has in mind for the traditional teams. In addition to the ones you listed, the Bears and Packers have some pretty classic looks. The gloves in the pic that I linked above look pretty much the same, but I'm curious to see what "one offs" Nike comes up with. Lots of NFL teams have used throwbacks recently, and I wonder if Nike can't create "pro combat" style jerseys for one game that wont affect the NFL's change rules.

Lions pics found here.

The Lions jerseys are the same for the most part along with most other teams. The only team's jersey, to my knowledge, that looks much different is the Seahawks. For what it's worth, I like the tighter look of Nike more than Reebok. Hopefully Nike doesn't try to do too much with most of the teams. Nike had to have one team to pimp out, I guess, and that team is Seattle.

Nike is terrible. Those shirts and hats that they can up with after the Bcs bowls looked like my five year old designed them. They kept it true last night as well with kentuckys championship gear.

there is in the United States of America over the last 10 years out by a woodshed and just kick their ass!?

Seriously. What is this shit?

Are they not satisfied until every damn thing that was once good and acceptable  is rehashed into neo-garbage and otherwise utterly destroyed for all-time?

Damn you Ritalin and Thundercats!

And get off my lawn!

Seriously, who gives a F*&^ what the jersey supplier is if you're a Michigan fan.  The uniforms have always looked awesome and they are always going to look awesome.  We're not a fanbase that will tolerate pro combat uniforms anyway so what does it really matter if U of M has Adidas or Nike uniforms?  Is one company going to make a better maize piping along the side?  And if people are worried about merchandise, I still don't understand.  You'll always be able to find something you like no matter which company produces it.  I would rather worry needlessly over 2017 recruiting than this crap.

"But the kids like them!"

"Who cares what we look like as long as we win?"

You think we're a fanbase who won't tolerate WARRIORZZ uniformzz, but just wait til you criticize them....the Ritalin side of the fanbase will emerge and tell you what a stupid old fogey you're being.  Never underestimate the power of a generation with the attention span of a goldfish.

I will say that the the integrated hip pads look pretty sweet. Who knows the players might actually wear them now. The padded socks are pretty awesome too. They look like a mic of elite socks and a shooting sleeve.

Personally I think this is great for the players. More comfortable gear and more innovative technology.

to me the gloves are just a 'look at me' thing...it's in your face, it's this new generation of it's all about me...I miss the days of Barry Sanders etc where you just hand the ball to the ref and act like you've been there a million times...this whole parade of gloves making some subliminal image is showboat crap I thought the league was trying to put a stop to?
