...that we bought in the office pool at work, I am sad to report that myself and 11 other people will be reporting to work on Monday morning as usual.

I guess I should rescind the retirement paperwork that I filled out this morning...

My wife heard that the expert math people said there must be a winner because all possible number combinations were exhausted with the high sales. I find that hard to believe considering random number generators will produce the same series of numbers from time to time, but who knows. They're the experts, not me.

There are what 175,000,000 possibilities.  They sold 600,000,000 to 700,000,000 million tickets for this drawing.  Odds are there were a few numbers that were skipped, but the vast vast majority were picked.

If there wasn't a chance of spilt winnings and you had $175,000,000 you could of guaranteed yourself a win and profit.  You just needed a lot of time.

model the actual behavior of people picking the numbers?

A lot of people use birthdays, which would mean numbers >31 would be underselected. And I have a feeling a lot of people wouldn't choose certain combinations, like six numbers in a row, because "they aren't random" and would never happen. (Of course there might also be people who had thought that and specifically picked one of those combinations....)

I bought a $5 easy, and all I could remember was that two of the lines started with 02. I saw this post, freaked out a little, and had to run and get my ticket. Now I'm just a sad guy in need of a change of underpants.

As also did not buy.  Not sure what the buzz for 650 million dollars is for.  Whats the difference if its 200 million or 500 million.  The megamillions always gets to a couple hundred million.  Since everyone was buying these I got a cash for life at the gas station for $5 bucks hoping to get 2 grand a week for life.  Actually ended up winning 10 bucks.  Although we didnt win, we all got the day dreaming time thinking about what life would be like if we won.  I'm sure everybody spends a good amount of time each week day dreaming about the lottery.

Today on 97.1 in the morning they were asking would you rather win the 500 million or have Brandon Inge's career (34 million, playing in the mlb etc but career not so fan favorite as of now).  Both guys on the show picked having INge's career.

I won the $150 once, and I figure it covers all the other tickets I've bought or will buy. So it paid for itself.
