An apology to the board

Submitted by RollDamnTide on

I would like to make a sincere apology to the MGoBlog community. When I started my "A Few Interesting Recruiting Notes", my aim was just to update you guys on the comings and goings of recruits around the country. I'd also post what my friends were hearing about the Michigan recruits, because I thought you'd like to hear it. I had no idea, however, that it would turn into something as far reraching as it has become. These threads are being referenced on 247/Scout/ and even on the Bama and SEC boards. While I stand by EVERYTHING I've written, I'm bound to be wrong about something, because my friends can be wrong. I'm not very thick skinned truth be told, and I really don't want the backlash that will result from it.

I do this for fun, and I want it to continue being fun for me. With that being said, I'm no longer going to be doing these recruiting updates. I love this board, and I enjoy being a member of the community, so I will remain and be happy to share my thoughts on all things Alabama.

No apology needed.  We all appreciated the updates, and I for one wish they continued, but I completely understand why they are not.  Thanks for your contribution to the board.

I don't think you have much to worry about. MGoBlog can be a very critical bunch, but at the end of the day, I think everyone genuinely appreciates the information you post.

EDIT: NOOOOO SHELLAYY I just read the bottom part saying that you're not posting more recruiting updates. Please don't stop.

I appreciated them as well. Perhaps you should continue them, but preface them all with a disclaimer of sorts. "This is largely speculation/opinion/etc"...

It's a shame that folks feel a need to blow up every bit of information and dropped hint. I think we all need an occasional reminder to relax. A lot of the recuiting sites and followers (including myself) would be well advised to smoke a joint, take a dump, eat some fruit loops and just chill the F* out.

I am not clear why you are stopping, cause others are talking about them? Who gives a rat's ass whether others talk about it? Doesn't that just mean more hits on this site? Isn't that a good thing?

I think all of us like them, if you are wrong, your are wrong. What the hell else are we going to do on the off season?

Everyone can be wrong, don't worry about it. Keep on with the info, it is always good to see other opinions. Noone will hunt you down if you are wrong amigo, but that is no reason to stop posting interesting information from other sources. I find it interesting & cool, regardless it if its wrong or right. Soldier ON!

Recruiting will always be filled with speculation and rumors.  To most who follow it, that's what makes it fun.  I always appreciated your updates and even if the speculation didn't pan out, it just meant that either

a. the source was wrong

b. the kid changed his mind

Either way, it isn't anything I get overly excited about.

Almost all of us come here for the great information, the camraderie, and for some fun.  However, there is an active element that simply takes the fun out of it.

The biggest strategic mistake Brian has made with the board has been the modification of the point system.  In the past, the Internet tough guys were dealt with swiftly by the Board with neg bangs to Bolivia.  More importantly,  outstanding contributors  -- like RDT if he had been a member back then -- would received the encouragement that their contributions deserved.

RDT, we will absolutely miss your recruiting updates.  They always contained appropriate caveats and interesting content.  However, I understand that it is not worth the grief.

Just put a tag line on your updates that says something like, "This information is provided for entertainment purposes only.  Please do not stake your well-being or the well-being of anyone else on the information contained herein.  Some of it is bound to be wrong.  Perhaps most of it is wrong.  Those experiencing an emergency due to the information posted should remember that we're just talking about football and/or seek medical attention and/or call 911 immediately."

It would be a shame to lose your posts.  They're fun.  As long as you're not purposefully yanking our chain - and I trust that you're not - I don't care if you'r wrong sometimes.  Anyone who follows recruiting should know that everyone is going to be wrong sometimes.

As long as you aren't making shit up, who cares whether it turns out to be true. Hell, even the family members of the athletes don't know where they're going half the time.  That said, you should probably have better sources than just your friends.

" That said, you should probably have better sources than just your friends."

Why?  It's not like he was claiming everything he said was gospel.  This is a message board, not a pay-site, so I don't really care if the free info that he's been giving us could have some misinformation.

Oh ok.  So from now on I think I'll post a daily thread about how my friend next door told me that Fuller is coming to Michigan.  Oh wait, it's completely useless information and there shouldn't be a thread about it.

The difference is that the information that he's posted has so far proven to be true, or at least believable.  The thing you are ignoring is that his friends actually have good connections with people who know what they're talking about.

You should've held off on this sabbatical until Isaac makes a decision.  If he picks Michigan, you could've pulled the ultimate Costanza leaving on a high note that would've made you a legend..
