My collection of UM autographs, relics and memorabilia

Submitted by CalJr3000 on

Since I was bored today I thought I'd throw up a board post showing off my burgeoning collection of Michigan cards and autographed memorabilia.  I've been collecting since I was a kid, and in the last 10 or 15 years I've really focused on my alma mater.  These Picasa albums (which I'm always updating, so please check in every now and then!) include my Michigan autograph/relic collections from the four major sports, plus important rookies, and finally my autographed memorabilia collection I've acquired over time (either in-person or via the internet).

I'm also curious to see if there are any fellow MGoCollectors around here that would like to show off their collections and/or trade.  From time to time I pick up doubles that I don't need and would be happy to get some trading going.

For now, here are links to my collection albums, which I hope some of you enjoy!:

Autographed memorabilia
Baseball
Basketball
Football
Hockey
Rookies

To give you a little taste, here's a sweet card I picked up after winning a bet with a Virginia Tech fan thanks to Michigan winning the Sugar Bowl:

What is that animal in the upper left-hand corner of your card?  Coyote?  Fox? Evolutionary precurser to fox, coyote, or maybe even Wolverine?  Or was Topps simply uninformed back in the 50's as to the identity of our Mascot?

Sweet Jesus man you have a LOT of Michigan memoriabilia.  I believe the term most commonly used to describe a collection as large as yours is "shitload".

Job well done man.  I'm impressed.

Thanks--it's mostly football (I'll be up to 500 pretty soon) but I'm doing what I can with the other sports.  And I have a few small projects going:  Cazzie Russell has autograph letters that spell out "Michigan," there's some Zach Putnam autographed letters that form a nameplate, and I'm trying to put together all of the Rich Hill cards from that one set (with some extremely rare ones left to get).

I just finished the hockey wall on the stairwalls. Now I'm in the process of getting more paint ready for the baseball wall which is going on the stairwall in the basement stairs.

About a month ago I picked up 2 Michigan felt pennants from the 30's or earlier. An old guy was unloading some stuff at a flea market I happened to be at and I instantly bought um. I collect Old tigers pennants, some old lions pennants, and old U of M pennants. I have never seen these pennants before, these were an awesome find. Would love to buy/trade pennants with anyone interested.

If I knew how to embed, I would gladly show them off. I already tried looking fr pictures a few times on google, no luck.

I have his 1993 Rose Bolw Jersey. If you recall, he was MVP of that game. It was given to me  by my uncle for a graduation present as I had been accepted and chose to go to Michigan. Tyrone gave it to him. He did this because when he was younger my uncle went to the same school and lived near him and gave him rides. They ran into each other about 10 years later and Tyrone thanked him as mailed it to him a few weeks later.

That's sweet. I don't have any game used stuff, but I do have a custom framed '97 national champion picture with a ticket stub from every game from that year.

I also have a comerica park banner that hung above the comerica park from the day it opened til 2010.

....is a fantastic collection. Thanks for sharing!

The baseball section was of particular interest to me as Bobby Korecky is both a former Saline Hornet and Michigan alumnus as I am, except he has a far more interesting job than I do.

As for the Wolverine in Oosterbaan's card, I can only assume that, as many cards had hand-drawn elements in the 1950s and the wolverine is a fierce animal, the artist wanted nothing to do with the model.

Talking about memorabilia, does anyone have a game worn jersey they are looking to sell?  I couldn't make it to the garage sale last year and would love to have one.  I don't care about the size or number.

Awesome collection.  My entire collection of signed memorabilia includes the hat I bought and had signed yesterday by Mike Martin, Dave Molk, and Kevin Koger at M Den.

I am not a huge collector of autographs but I do have a Bo and Lloyd signed pics on my wall. Brady and Mo would be a nice addition though.

I'd love to have more autos of the past coaches.  I actuall pulled my Moeller from a set that's dedicated to Michigan (and used to be produced in the state) called TK Legacy Michigan, which was produced for a good number of years and includes lots of alumni from several sports.  He's the only coach I have right now, though.

Moeller is the MAN.  A crying shame one meltdown cost him as mich as it did -- especially compared with the buffoonery in today's college sports.  I think with him as the HC, we would have seen more Rose Bowls, and maybe even more NC chances, than getting a decade of running back into the line, running back into the line, TE screen, punt -- and hope the defense saves your ass.

It always killed me to see TJ Hensick an avehole uniform.  Did I miss it or are you missing Jim Abbott?  You cannot have a baseball collection without a Jim Abbott!

Very nice collection. We've actually traded once a little while back through your site. Thanks again!

I also collect Michigan football autographs. I'm slowly branching out to other Michigan sports in addition to Wings, Tigers, and Lions. It's a fun hobby. Unfortunately, some people go a little over the top when trying to get autographs and it sometimes gives autograph collectors a bad name. As long as you are respectful to an athlete, they will usually be accomodating.

Here is my photobucket that has some of the autographs I've obtained over the years:

I've got quite a few cards you might be interested in - all rookies.  Woodson. Brady, Hutchinson, Backus, Navarre, Hart, Henne, Hall, Manningham, etc.  Do you have a site or anywhere for me to contact you with a more detailed list?
