Night of 1000 emails
Entertaining to say the least! I thoroughly enjoyed reading through a lot of those emails and seeing tons of familiar names. I laughed at the justification "Well, I'm graduating soon and I wanted to do this at least once.. so I'm hitting reply all"
Participant here, though this whole thing is doing a fine job of keeping me from finishing up work that so desperately needs to be done haha
How did it stop? Did everyone simultaneously just stop caring? I have to assume that some administrator has intervened to stop it.
I believe it just died. Weird. Maybe someone stepped in and killed it.
This happened a few weeks ago to people in the residence halls. Some asshole decided to hit reply all on a spam emailing list.
That pissed me off.
The one you guys are talking about sounds pretty funny. Ours was just annoying as hell.
This one was annoying as hell too.
People need to grow up and get Gmail. It puts the messages in threads so you can just delete them all at once, It's wonderful. If it's not your style then that's fine, but the option exists, and it would take the complaining out of "reply all" threads.

I have it now. I had to learn that the hard way haha.

People were also changing the titles, so I have at least 25 different e-mails with threads in most of them. The Craig James and Hoke e-mails were cool, but most of them were *insert something i think is funny but no one else will*
I must admit. I participated. And I still have work to do. Why did Craig James have to kill 5 hookers while at SMU?
My personal favorite were the jabs at Kozan and Stefon Diggs.
I didn't know there was a Duderstadt Center until I saw your post. It kind of makes me feel old to know that there is a huge building named after a man who was president of the university when I attended.
Imagine what it is like for those of us who were students when Shapiro was president. Everytime my son (a current junior) talks about studying at "The Dude," it cracks me up and freaks me out all at once.
What I really like is that Duderstadt actually refers to the library as 'The Dude' as well.

Even more amusingly, Duderstadt's current office is in the Dude.
or the "MU"("Moo") after or during my Freshman year F03/W04. Believe the Moo was built right before my cousin graduated, which was in 1996.
Someone said something along the lines of "I hear they're even selling Michigan jerseys in Ohio now" or however that meme goes. I laughed

This stuff still happens? Some things never change.
Yeah it happened when I was a student too, except we used carrier pigeons in those days.
That's why my dad sent me to college with a snow shovel! There must have been dump trucks full of sh*t by morning back then.
I never thought I'd be saying this but I actually wish I was getting those spam emails!
They are going out to only seniors?
I think the last one I experienced was the great Ladies Bible Study email bomb about 5 years ago. There were even t-shirts: "Spammin' Your Way to Heaven"
It is well documented on the interwebs as well:
Here at ArborWiki --LINK--
And made it all the way to Urban Dictionary. --LINK--
Yes, I do miss those times... Sigh.
Haha that's what I was thinking last night as I watched the flood overtake my inbox. There were some funny responses but of course there were also annoying people like scumbag Steve.
There were a ton of mgoblog references in the email fiasco last night: Diggs, Kozan, Hoke, Ohio, tremendous.
Also, the amount of students that were drinking yesterday made me feel better about myself as well.

This is the first time it has happened since freshman year for me--it's really screwing up my new Umich gmail. It collapsed everything into 50 conversations, so its easy to delete, but it slows gmail down to a crawl, making it difficult to delete them all. Luckily they didn't blow up my phone.
Between reading through these and the tournament starting later, I'm getting nothing done at work today.

Glad I didn't have my inbox firebombed, but concerned that I'm graduating but not on the graduating seniors email list...

I don't know why I'm not on the listserv either. Hmmmm should I be concerned?
I've been getting the graduation emails, so hopefully that's just a list put together by the yearbook and they took me off because my mom already ordered one for me. I know at least one other senior who also didn't get spammed, so we're not alone.
That was the greatest stalker tool of all time. I don't remember the exact command. I believe all you had to do was type "Finger [Uniqname]" and it told you if the person was logged in, where they were logged in, and/or where they were last logged into the system.
