Kid doesn't play a lot of D, has tunnel vision, has an almost 1:1 turnover/assist ratio, shoots less than 50% from the free throw line, and has had discipline problems.  You can blame tunnel vision on trying to do too much because of who's around him, but how many guards can you name that shoot 46% from the field and only 49% from the line.  That speaks volumes about his work ethic.

Eh, over his college career, Eric Snow shot 52% from the floor and 46% from the line, and he's a guy who made an Olympic team soley on the strength of his Eckstein factor. I'm not saying this is common, but it's definitely not unheard of for genuinely hard-working guys to be crappy free throw shooters (Avery Johnson and Gary Payton are two other easy examples of skilled, hard-working guards who have shot under 60% from the line over full NBA seasons.)

I stand corrected! I remember him being invited to the 2004 (2006?) USA camp, and for some reason I thought they brought him along and stashed him on the bench, but it doesn't look like he made the final roster: http://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/uso.html

The broader point remains, though: sometimes Ecksteins suck at free throws.

Need to pick a school based on more than it's coaching staff.  Even if your dad is the coach.  I'd like to get him as a transfer, but I don't know if we'll have the room or need w/ the crew coming in next year.

And tell me who he reminds you of.

Ok I'll spoil it... he kinda looks like a rebounding Tim Hardaway Jr.  It also wouldn't surprise me if he is forced to be Central's "Mr. Everything" because he is so talented, and I'd be willing to bet that he would be a little more efficient with some help around him.  Doubt we have a scholarship available, and by the time he would play we'll be pretty crowded at his position with so many wings already in the fold.  Who knows though, Beilein loves him some wings.

in that his defense seemed lazy and when the ball was not in his hand or the play called was not directly involving him, he just seemed to make his away around the court in a lazy manner.  I'm honestly happy we didn't get him as it allowed Trey to shine more as the golden frosh and left a scholarship open for a future player.

I'm not sure he is riding high school hype. This year he averaged 16.3 points per game, 5.4 Rebounds per game, Almost 1 block a game (by the way this is more than double anyone on Michigan other then Horford), 1.3 steals a game.

He doesn't shoot well from the free throw line, but if a spot opened up and he was interested then I would hope Beilien would give him a look. He would sit out 1 year and learn Beilien's system and also Belien would have plenty of time to help teach him/improve his game before he saw the court.

This is OT but I don't feel like making my own thread for it:I know this question doesn't come up a lot but is anyone else worried about burke jumping to the NBA? the ozone ( worst site ever btw) is convinced hes gone and will be a top 15 pick. My friend who is in the media has been told off record that there is a very real chance hes out of here. I really don't like the talk of it but it seems like nobody has brought it up. What do you guys think right now?

Trey isn't listed in any top 60 draft prospect list that I can find, so a top 15 pick seems like pure lunacy. However, I doubt anyone can speculate on Trey's desire to try and catch on at the end of the 2nd rd,  or as a free agent and see what happens. He is a pretty driven kid, so it could be a goal that he thinks he can concur. I'm not sure that would be a smart decision though. I was shocked that Darius left, so I won't think it can't happen this time around.

I hope it doesn't. There would be exactly zero PG's on the roster next year. I'm not exactly sure of Carlton Brundidge's viability to take over.

Eso Akunne, despite whatever limitations he has, is a point guard, and Brundidge would certainly be expected to play some at the point were Burke to leave early. Beilein has also talked about Stauskas being an option at point guard.

For what it's worth, Draft Express has Burke going late in the first round of their 2013 mock draft. Their mock draft history for Burke shows a big jump up the board for him during this season.

While we obviously would be much better off with Trey, I don't think we would be doomed without him.  Nik Stauskas plays the point some for his high school team and is a very underrated ball handler.  Carlton Brundidge is only a freshman and is backing up the best PG in the Big Ten right now, so no one really knows all that much about him.  Even without Trey, this is still a tournament team next year.  They would just go from being a potential national title contender to a potential Big Ten title contender without him.  With all of that said, it would really suck to have all that talent coming in next year, only to have Trey leave before they get here.

Could end up at UCLA. His dad was an assistant at UCLA before coming to CMU and they were one of Trey's finalists. It was just announced that Howland would be back too.

Wouldn't mind adding him. Might not have lived up to everybody's expectations but he's still got 2 years of eligibility left and Beilein might be able to further his development. Would be a nice addition considering that Hatch might be reclassified to 2014.

That'd be my guess if he decides to move on.  Howland's desperate and he's not going to land either of the top guys he's going after right now(honestly wouldn't be surprised if the guys he signed this year are trying to get out of their letters of intent too).   He could use some help on the wings the year after Ziegler sits out.

In my opinion all the stuff about Howland getting one more year to turn it around is BS.  UCLA is desperately pinching pennies right now and Howlands buyout is too high.  Combined with a chancellor that actively dislikes college athletics and an AD who can't seem to think long term and you have a situation in which Howland gets to stay almost as long as he likes and continue to run that program into the ground.

I will never fault any kid for playing for his dad.  That being said, you have to wonder if his dad was the best coach for him.  Since he has been "the show" under his dad, I don't know if he can take a different role on a different team.  I definlteiy don't think he would fit at Michigan, where teamwork is an essential.

Also, he shot 46.2 percent from the field and 28.9 percent from three point range.  What would he even do on the floor with the kind of talent that is going to be in Ann Arbor by the time he is eligible?

I think the poster who suggested Detroit might be spot on.

I understand the coach was dad ... but things change.  Never understood picking a coach over tradition, academics, the program, etc
