Congrats on a great year from a Spartan

Submitted by Spar-Dan on

Just wanted to say congrats on a great year for you guys.  We're both headed into the tourney, and it's a great time of year--the first weekend of the NCAAs is a fantastic sports weekend.  I have been extremely impressed with Beilein.  After losing Morris, I thought this year would be tough.  Obviously, Burke stepped up and Beilein made magic.  You deserved a share of the pie.  It would have been great for MSU to have had it alone, but we crapped the bed a couple of times (the Illinois game was about as butt-ugly as they come), and UM played tough and won their share.  Again, congrats on a great year.

Before you think I'm too soft or a suck up, I hope next year we beat you by 50 in basketball and score the winning touchdown in football with 0.001 seconds on the clock ;)

Good luck in the tourney, represent our state and our conference well, and I hope MSU does the same.

It's been a heckuva good year for both schools in the two major sports. I'm a UM alum, brother went to MSU and I root for the Spartans when don't play them.

My parents, grandparents, sisters, friends, etc are all Spartans. I used to root for MSU when they played others but Dantonio cured me of that. I used to root for MSU basketball because of Izzo but he has really become a bit of an arrogant whiner these days. I will be rooting for MSU's opponent.

Thanks, but I hope you guys make History. And not the "first man on the moon" type of history. I hope LIU pulls off the upset for the first time ever

How I read the second paragraph -

Before you think I'm an old softy or a brown-noser, I hope next year we beat you guys by 60 points in NCAA division 1 basketball, and score the winning enzone-touchdown with 0.00008 ticks on the gameclock in NCAA division 1 men's football.  ;) ;) ;)  8====>~~~~~

Hey congrats to you too man. Izzo taking those four and five star guys and competing with the likes of Stu Douglass was really impressive.  Now GTFO.

That was classy on your part, Dan. I'm excited to see MSU and Michigan competing at the top of the B1G in both football and basketball. That's how it should be. Congrats on the tourney title and the 1-seed. Good luck, brother.

serious question do you guys think you deserve a 1 seed after losing the last 2 games if the regular season. I mean how many times has that happened? Never i bet. Just wondering what Spartan nation thinks..

Let's look at the #2.

Missouri--lost two games in a row @ the end of Feb. to KSU (unranked) and Kansas, SOS 86, RPI #11.

OSU, MSU settled that today.

Kansas, lost in the conference tourney to #11 Baylor, SOS 6, RPI 6

Duke, lost 2 of the last 3 games, SOS 2, RPI 4

MSU lost 2 of their last 5 game, SOS 1, RPI 5

So, were we head and shoulders above the #2s?  No. But our SOS (which is emphasized heavily this year), and the fact we were the regular season co-champs and conference tourney champs of the toughest league in the nation seems to have pushed us into the #1.

SoS was essentially cupcakes + B1G + Zaga away (meh) + Duke (Loss) + UNC Loss + FSU (good).

So your SoS is buoyed by those two ACC losses on neutral floors? If i were Kansas or Dook I would be crying like Izzo after an obvious foul by Doo Doo.

Mizzou was a lower 2 seed by the way. They weren't your competition for the seed but you will have to pass thru them, a better team than yours, to get out of the region.

i really don't care it doesn't affect my team but it seems wrong to me. After all you lost your last two regular season games which does not make you a 1 seed IMO.

Well, since the game is at the Big House, at least we can feel confident that if Sparty scores the winning touchdown, it won't be with -0.001 seconds left :P

Sparty beat Ohio St. at the BTT, which sadly is more than we can say, and was the co-champ in the best conference in the country; I can't really argue against them as a 1-seed.  Maybe not over Duke since Duke beat them head-to-head but srsly.... f. Duke.

Also, Sparty got the best of us last time, so... we'll have to get you back in the finals.  (Though, if you made history and lost to LIU Brooklyn that'd be nice too ;) )

Congrats to Wolverines World Wide on our great season.  Lets root them on to a final 4 run.

Thank you for the post Dan.  I don't understand the vitreol but I guess that is what impassioned fanbases do.  Many times I think Michgian fans are above it all - that we are courteous, professional and overall better.  That we don't stoop to name calling or such juvenile comments.  But there are the fringes of every fan base.  After all, it's just a game and we aren't playing each other any more (unless we make it really far in the tournament).

This may be sacrilage for me to say, but MSU looks really good.  This team has one phenomenal go to player in Draymond Green, who is playing better than almost any other player in the country right now.  They are big, physical, can get to the hoop, rebound like animals - this is a very good team.  You may make it to the Final Four - I think Brandon Dawson getting injured is a huge blow.   But in my mind this is the deepest team since Mateen Cleaves senior year.

Having said that enjoy your time in the sun because there is only one coach as good as Izzo in the Big Ten and that is John Beilein.  He has won at every level and has never had this kind of talent.  This is going to get really interesting for the next five to ten years.

Hierarchy of rival hatred:

Ohio football--mostly dicks, a few nice ones, but fuck them.

MSU football--annoying as shit when we're not beating them 4 of 5 years

MSU basketball--true respect, even before Izzo, because they can hoop and we want to beat them badly. In my lifetime, a draw.

Ohio basketball--meh

I would love nothing more to see MSU lose in their first game. I hate listening to all my sparty friends talk smack constently. That said they looked pretty good all weekend and I have them as a final 4 team in my bracket.

Go blue and would love nothing more than to play you guys once more.... Good luck from my wallet.
