Beilein and Matta
I don't know if anyone else noticed but it seemed like Beilein was not too happy with Matta at the end of the game, anyone have any insight on this?
tOSU jacking up three's when they had the game wrapped up was kinda uncalled for...
Why we would apologize for that? Is the losing team not even supposed to try?
I would guess that he was apologizing because he called our players off, not to go for the ball there.

this same argument with a former asst coach. If we were losing big, he wanted to keep the starters in the game while the other team put in the back ups. This makes no sense because it teaches our girls nothing.
They have to learn to be good losers. I always favored switching up our team as well to allow other kids to get a chance.
I assume this thread will devolve into OSU bashing, but fans/coaches complaining about breaches of etiquette during blow outs is one of my top pet peeves in all of sports.
The team that's down doesn't stop taking threes, why should the team that's up? It's hard to get mad at wide open players or reserves that never play when they actually try to score.
I, too, never understand the whining that takes place about "poor sportsmanship" on the part of the winner in a blowout. I consider this to be the last refuge of the loser mentality.
My take: If you don't like getting blown-out, play better. Simple as that.
OSU proved how much better they are than UM today. Hopefully, in the future, UM will be better equipped to compete against the big dogs (...typed while patiently waiting for McGary and Robinson III to hit campus...)

absolutely right
some days you just have to take your medicine, learn from it, and move on...Beilein will have them bouncing back in the tournament
Hahaha, really? All the subs supposed to just dribble around and get a shot clock violation every time? Again, stop crying like a little whiney michigan pussy. You got whipped and Craft abused Burke the ENTIRE game.
Who knows. If there was a sound clip or an extended video clip maybe we can make a better guess.
I'd be pissed if my team lost by over 20, too.
Fuck Thad Matta! I hate that guy with a passion and next year we're gonna dominate his ass. He wishes he was as good a coach as Beilein. Only reason why he wins is because he gets the best players money can buy. That dirty son of a gun.
It was about the fast play from his team while up 25+ late in the second half. Beilein probably would have wanted Matta to run the clock out longer to get out of there. It is what it is, don't look too far into it.
It would be appreciated.
Once coaches for Michigan and one coaches for Ohio. Enough said.
no comment...
The staff doesn't just dislike Ohio (State); they hate Matta. Period. He's dirty on and off the court. Source? A buddy who coached against Matta.
Yeah, nice source ya got there. Stop crying, you got pounded by the better team.
Yes, and also I have it on good authority from Rick Santorum that Obama is really ruining America.
supposedly there was a shouting match between the two after a brawl in a Richmond-Xavier game, they apparently despise each other.
It's probably no big deal and we are overreacting.
Better team won. Let's not whine.
Yeah, that dirty Matta's team utterly destroys the other team by playing basketball. The Wolves lost by 22 and it should have been 32. The scrubs were all in. They are all going to play the best they can. An absolutely terrible game for UM. I hope they do better in the tournament. A loss like that can shake your confidence.
they get it together for the NCAA Tourney.
The Wolves?
First post ever?
Welcome to the board.

Maybe it's becase I'm in Minnesota, but it took me a while to figure out who the hell the Wolves were and why we're talking about Ricky Rubio in this thread.

I thought we were talking about Clarkston High School.
It's insane to ask players who rarely play to not try when they are in the game. Making a three in the conference tourney semis is something to brag about for the rest of your life. It is always up to the defense to stop the offense. There is no problem with UM players going for steals or ohio players firing up shots. That's what they are supposed to do.
This reminds of me of working for the Grand Valley athletic department in the late 80's. GVSU rolled up 90 points on Wayne State. The last TD occurred with about 5 minutes to play. GVSU's fourth string QB ran the option on a 3rd and 4 and went untouched for a 75 yard TD. The WSU coach was pissed and told the media so. Coach Beck (Brian Kelly's predecessor) said simply, "It's not our job to stop ourselves." I agree.
Except Beilein waved our guys off...
Still not Matta's job to stop his players. Let ohio's scrubs enjoy firing up some shots. Beilein can be pissed. It's ok. UM will be back during the NCAA's. It's one game and we will all move on. If it gives Trey some extra motivation next year to look at the final score, that would good too.
Pure speculation, just because he had a word with him doesn't mean anything negative. Maybe he just wanted to wish him luck?

We have been enjoying it for the past 10 years. Thanks though.
Ohio kept their starters in well beyond when they needed to be in. I am not saying he had any sportsman-like duty to call them off sooner, but I think it would have been smart coaching to start planning for a tough game tomorrow a little earlier. I am sure it was sweet for them to enjoy a good win against a hated rival. They were enjoying themselves.

Who cares what was said? We got our asses kicked. Learn from it and come back to fight another day.

Put me in the Beilen apolgizing category. It sure looked like he was saying "I told those guys to back off on those last few possessions, my bad", rather than, F-you for running up the score
Our first time playing back to back days since Maui. Not to mention the fact that we missing Horford who could have helped provide some length. We have not lost twice in a row all year, so look out first round opponent.

average defense led to this loss. UM played terribly, and ohio played very well. That's all it is, and while it hurts, there is alot to look forward to with UM's basketball program; increasingly talented recruits, very good coaching, and good sportsmanship. Go Blue!
