Second games of the first round.  Michigan plays the second-worst-seeded team at Yost next weekend.

6-Northern Michigan vs 11-Bowling Green (NMU won game one 4-2)
7-Lake Superior State  vs 10-Alaska (LSSU won game one 4-3)
8-Notre Dame vs 9-Ohio (ND won game one 2-0)

we can beat any of these six teams, and probably 9 out of 10 times every time. But is there one team on this list that we have had a tough time with in recent years? Like a team who always plays us tough no matter what the records are?

against them, I don't want State; their special teams scare me. I also end up with my head asploding about nine times during every Miami and ND game, but if the referees were willing to call anything when they hit Hunwick we could have a pretty good advantage. Since this won't happen, I hope we avoid them too.

Northern always seems to play really well against us but rarely wins at Yost. Usually it just ends up being too-close-for-comfort

Notre Dame seems to give us trouble sometimes and I'd rather not play them. They have by far the most talent of any of the bottom 6 teams. They're the most dangerous of the 6

11 bowling green is up 1-0 on 6 northern in the 1st.

7 lake state leads 10 alaska 1-0 after one period of play.

Since we are the 2nd seed we need two upsets to effect our next matchup. I think it's very unlikely that will happen but you never know.

6 northern has broke the tie and now leads 11 bowling green 2-1 with under a minute left in the 1st.

A picture perfect goal by 9 ohio and they now break the tie with 8 ND, and lead 2-1 with under a minute left in the 1st.

But with the way the bracket is set up we wouldn't have to play ND until the championship, since it's set up to purposely favor the higher seeds as much as possible. Barring a major upset our first opponent is LSSU, and again without an upset second round is Western Michigan. The first I can say is going to happen, the second is just a guess.

Oops, supposed to be a reply.

Lets assume these results hold tonight, these will be the quarterfinal matchups (you could sub in OSU for ND without changing anything):

#1 FSU v #8 ND, #2 U-M v #7 LSSU, #3 WMU v #6 NMU, #4 MIA v #5 MSU

Assuming we move on to the semifinals, we could face:

-Notre Dame, because they would be the lowest remaining seed and we would be the highest

-Western Michigan, if FSU and WMU both win...MIA/MSU would be the lowest remaining seed regardless for top seed FSU and we would get WMU

-Miami or Michigan State if FSU and NMU win...NMU would be the lowest remaining seed and would face top seed FSU

-We cannot face FSU until the finals and we would not face NMU until the finals because of re-seeding

At the end of 2: 7 lake state leads 10 alaska 1-0

6 northern leads 11 bowling green 3-2 in the 2nd.

8 notre dame just scored and is now tied at 2 with 9 ohio.

In my opinion NMU losing to Bowling Green would not help us at all. A BG win matches them with Ferris and gives us the winner of the 8 vs 9 game, which I think is much more dangerous than Lake Superior. A BG win and an Alaska win would be great, but only one would not.

The aggressive transition game and the opportunistic ability of Notre Dame is a terrible matchup for us. Clare and Pateryn don't have the speed and turnovers have been such a problem for Chiasson and Serville, they're the last team I want to play.

Northeastern is ahead of BU 4-3 after two periods, which is good for us. St. Cloud now leads Duluth 2-1.  Should Duluth lose, there is a chance that we jump them in the pairwise.

8 notre dame scores and goes up 3-2 on 9 ohio but the goal is under review, goal looks like it was punched in by player.E

EDIT: Goal is good. 8 ND leads 3-2.

Here we go again....

11 bowling green leads 6 northern 4-3 after a goal with less than 10 seconds left in the 2nd period.

7 lake state still leads 10 alaska 1-0 with under 10 in the game.

7 lake state scores the empty netter to beat 10 alaska 2-0 and get the sweep to advance to the Quarterfinals.

Short of a collapse in Michigan's RPI, that locks up the pairwise comparison against BU.  Also, Wisconsin has a 1-0 lead over Minnesota, Duluth and St. Cloud are tied 3-3 after 2, and UNO and Denver are tied 1-1 after 2.

11 bowling green scores the empty netter to go up 5-3 against 6 northern, and for the second straight year, northern and bowling green will go to a game 3.

Identical scenario. Teams were same seeds last season, first round matchup, northern won game 1 and bowling green won game 2. Same arena.

Kinda weird.

8 notre dame leads 9 ohio 3-2 with under 6 left to play in the game.

SEASONS OVER BITCH!

8 notre dame gets the empty goal to go up 4-2 with 50 seconds left.

ohio has achieved the biggest collapse in college hockey history.

Well, Notre Dame just got the empty netter..... so ND will sweep OSU. Wow, OSU goes from #2 in the country to OUT of the NCAAs in 2 months.....

With BG vs. NMU going to game 3 tomorrow, UM will play either Notre Dame (if BG wins) or Lake Superior State (if NMU wins).

Go Blue!
