Gedeon Visiting??

Submitted by jbibiza on

Scout has a header that points to a possible visit this weekend or soon thereafter by Ben Gedeon.  Let the speculation begin.   One take is that they prefer Ben to McCray (FWIW so do I) and this could head off a McCray committment.  With O'Daniel looking good and Levenberry a strong possibility perhaps we take three LBs in this class rather than the presumed two?

A long way to go but McCray's announcement may have speeded up the process for the linebackers.  I have total faith in this coaching staff so whatever Mattison decides is OK with me - can I get an Amen?

If you have a pre-existing relationship with someone, you can do whatever you would normally do with him/her.  If I have a friend in the neighborhood, and during the summer his family goes out boating with my family, I don't have to stop doing that once he becomes a football recruit.

My son has other boys in our neighborhood that he plays with, and sometimes those boys come to our house for stuff.  If one of those kids becomes a Michigan recruit, I don't have to stop doing what I'm doing.

This coaching staff seems to like the thicker more physical type linebackers and it is reflected in the LB's recruited so far and the LB's that have actually played in the games. Does this leave guys like Marvin Robinson, Josh Furman, Cam Gordon as players without positions? Casualties of the coaching change. These guys don't seem to be what the coaches are looking for at Safety or LB.

I think Robinson and Furman are in the mix at safety.  Marvin was injured and Furman is supposedly coming along.  Cam Gordon is the big surprise.  He was getting rave reviews before the season and then never played on D even after he recovered from his back injury.  Something must be holding him back.  I've yet to hear a reason.

I thought Robinson lacked the ability to play in space, he looked like a stiff mule out there. However, I'm judging this solely on last years spring game. Furman has been a great special teams player and maybe he gets his shot when Kovacs leaves. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wilson take the job as a rs frosh. Thomas Gordon should continue to improve and when he graduates Dymonte's legacy begins. It's great knowing the defense won't be ignored any longer.

Which reminds me...   Mattison just gushed about Gordon, too, as if he was the only one who has a shot to be great... imagine the confusion that ensued when he didn't play all year, and nobody speaks of him any longer. I know he was hurt, but I wonder how hurt, and if he wouldn't have won the job back anyway.    And I wonder if maybe he should play WR, where he was a stud, and we need wrs right now.

I say don't wait thinking you have a real good shot at the other top LB's (if it's the case he's above McCray- in the coaches mind obviously you take- and the rest of this arguement is moot)).  Hoping to get two guys better and passing on Gedeon for that may lead to no or only 1 top LB.  He has an offer for a reason he's a top guy himself.  If he says yes you take it and force the other guys to decide quickly if you have room for one more- or decide if they are good enough to take another roster spot if you only planned on two LB.

I know there's still tons of time- but if he wants to commit early take him right away even if the staff has McCray above him IMO.

...has McCray rated much higher than Gedeon (44 vs mid-200s), but Gedeon has offers from Michigan, MSU, Ohio, PSU and Stanford, whereas McCray only has Michigan plus S Carolina (from top 25 and other big linebacker schools).

What gives?
