4* OH LB McCray Sets Decision Date for 3/8
Josh Helmholdt @JoshHelmholdt
BREAKING: Rivals100 LB Mike McCray of Ohio has scheduled an announcement for his college selection bit.ly/wzVLwa
Just as a side note, McCray has a visit to Michigan scheduled for 3/6. That's usually a good sign when a recruit visits right before his decision.
For whatever reason, OSU has yet to offer.

... No MSU, ND, or OSU offers. So any expert out there know the likely schools in the running other than UM?
Edit: Nevermind, answered above.

He hasn't taken any visits.. Interesting..

When i was much younger i had an insanely good looking friend who could get any chick he wanted wherever we went. We called him "Rico Sauve" and even strippers tried to pick him up if we hit one of those establishments. My strategy was to wait until he got whoever he wanted then the leftovers, and there were lots to choose from, were just happy to have somebody paying attention to them and i did (almost) as well as he did. The trick for me at least was knowing my place (second prize) and acting accordingly.
Anyways I was thinking the other day that when it comes to recruiting Hoke is kinda like my old friend Rico and Urban Meyer is playing my role. He's basically letting Hoke get whatever he wants and then will swoop in on the leftovers and give them some pity-love.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:28 PM ^
Well, that and the fact that Hoke has been recruting and looking at tape for an extra year. Hoke et al know the players and coaches and have been watching them for at least 12 months. Oh, and Meyer runs a different system with coaches he hasn't worked with yet.
Other than that, yeah great example. Way to compare recruiting to all the chicks you've banged. Not creepy at all!
February 27th, 2012 at 12:32 PM ^
the ending to your story, you fell in love with one of those "leftovers" and are happily married and have beautiful children, While Rico played out his good looks until there inevitable demise and is also ethier alone still trying to live out his glory days, or unhappily married to a chick who he doesn't love and can't stand to look at. Ballpark?
February 27th, 2012 at 12:45 PM ^
Rico strikes me as the kind of guy that listens to a lot of Pitbull while drinking Dr. Pepper.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:54 PM ^
Actually no. Rico got married and that ended the party. I did get married (then divorced) and then now remarried to my lovely wife the avatar.
But good guess though.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:10 PM ^
Seriously cool story bro lol it would suck for your wife to read any of this and think she was leftovers awarded to the runner up :D

Governing dynamics!! It's the only way for guys like us to get laid :-)

In biology terms, we call your kind 'satellite males.'
February 27th, 2012 at 12:28 PM ^
I think LaQuon Treadwell will commit after him. I know he has said he has no time table but kids change their minds, especially when they see others committing and the class starting to fill up.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:35 PM ^
Ohio is simply taking a strategy of offering their 'national' recruits before good state players. I think we are seeing that with McCray and others.
I wonder what chance we have, with him committing the week after he visits us. No idea what this means.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:06 PM ^
I hope this is true, or at least plays out enough to become an established meme in the Ohio coaching community. This is the exact opposite of what Hoke and staff are doing, and it would piss off the Ohio high school coaches to no end.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:36 PM ^
that shit [Mc]Cray
February 27th, 2012 at 12:37 PM ^
McCray hails from Trotwood Madison High School -- the same school as Roy Roundtree, Michael Shaw, & Brandon Moore. Good sign?
February 27th, 2012 at 1:17 PM ^
Irrelevant. He was in diapers when they played there.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:24 PM ^
If he was in diapers as a middle school, then I don't want him.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:40 PM ^
...you fire a zinger that costs me a laptop. Thanks.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:41 PM ^
Mgobluegr talked with Mike less than a week ago. His interest in Michigan is definitely ramping up and the fact he's announcing two days after his visit bodes well for their chances.

If we take only two linebackers, I'd be very happy with two of Leavenberry, McCray, Gedeon or O'Daniel. Leavenberry is my favorite, not sure who number two is, but any of those three would be great. Anzalone is intriging, but I don't know much about him.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:57 PM ^
Well, that's a pretty big surprise, I didn't think we'd get him, but that would be a huge pick-up. Dude's a stud, for sure.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:07 PM ^
With his size, would be a perfect SLB.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:08 PM ^
I keep thinking "okay, well this class can't get much better than this..there has to be some sort of slow down here." And then, out of the blue comes another "4 star linebacker named Derp is visiting Michigan and Michigan is in his top three."
Quite simply, recruiting makes me giddy.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:16 PM ^
I don't trust this situation...at all.... it sounds a little fishy. Lets hope its only due to paranoia, but I wouldn't put it past the Ohio "family" to pull something like this, having a silent offer only to leave egg on M's face.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:08 PM ^
I have a feeling IF he did commit to Michigan and then later on got a offer from OSU he wouldnt beable to switch his commitment any faster
February 27th, 2012 at 1:19 PM ^
If he decides to commit, I would ask that very question. If Urban comes hard after you in January, will you still be solid Blue?
February 27th, 2012 at 1:24 PM ^
Yea I would have to believe the Coaches would know this kind of situation with him, IF he committed they would probably talk it over with him to make sure that isnt his inttentions because if it is, I wouldnt be surprised to see them deny his commitment if he only wants to do it to get a offer from OSU.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:12 PM ^
forcing Ohio's hand and setting his date two days after his visit to U of M? Maybe thinking he can get an offer from Ohio so they just don't lose him to us without trying? All I ever heard he is open to Michigan, but he would follow his fathers footsteps and goto Ohio.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:13 PM ^
Is it paranoid to think that McCray may possibly commit to Ohio on March 8, and that he and Ohio played it coy, to leave egg on our face? I hope this isn't the case, however, something seems a little off here.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:26 PM ^
I dont know how we would have egg on our face. i dont think he would be willing to play those kind of games and i am sure his coach would not be happy.
February 27th, 2012 at 3:27 PM ^
Paranoid and making no sense are not the same thing.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:14 PM ^
I think we need to work this into the "Hello" post somehow.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:18 PM ^
I know what I want.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:20 PM ^
A Michigan themed snuggie?
February 27th, 2012 at 1:22 PM ^
So is that 4 Rivals 100 LBs who we think are potential commits?
February 27th, 2012 at 1:24 PM ^
I wonder if Levenberry will beat him to the punch.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:31 PM ^
Levenberry first, then McCray. Then let the coaches decide if 2 is enough or if they are willing to take 3. That would be a great problem to have.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:31 PM ^
Do you think EJ is ready for his decision? Would love EJ and Mccray and o'daniel. I think you said this before, EJ and Mccray are SAM's and o'daniel is a WILL. and what is Gideon and the PA LB??
February 27th, 2012 at 1:37 PM ^
Gedeon looks like he could play either inside or at SAM. Anzalone looks more like an inside linebacker. I await Magnus' more professional take on this.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:49 PM ^
No, I don't think Levenberry is ready just yet. Yes, Levenberry and McCray are SAMs and O'Daniel is a WILL, perhaps a MIKE if he hits a bit of a growth spurt. Gedeon is probably a MIKE, and the Pennsylvania linebacker (Alex Anzalone, I'm guessing) is a SAM.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:58 PM ^
According to his 247 profile Anzalone is visiting on 3/23.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:33 PM ^
When is EJ visiting, the same weekend?
February 27th, 2012 at 1:39 PM ^
Spring game I believe
February 27th, 2012 at 1:36 PM ^
What do you know?
February 27th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
Having read Magnus' comments around here and elsewhere for a long time, my answer would be more than you do.
