Womens Basketball falls on senior night, 60-49
Michigan falls short to purdue on senior night, 60-49.
The seniors have nothing to be ashamed of. They leave on a 3 game win streak against ohio, something that hasn't been done in program history.

purdue gets two layups off turnovers.
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:08 PM ^
3 straight turnovers for Michigan, 3 minutes in...
purdue ties the game at 5.

Decent crowd for senior night. Tickets were $1.
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:10 PM ^
will seal a tournament bid if not already firmly in. Just get a damn rebound once in awhile please.
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:11 PM ^
Michigan leads 9-5 at the first media timeout.

I love Michigan sports.... but I can't stand watching womens basketball
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:16 PM ^
Same here

ooo a layup
o look, another layup

Sure it's not as fast and athletic as the Mens game, but I enjoy watching Michigan play and try to build the program.
The program has not had very much success in it's entire history, would love to see them raise a banner in Crisler someday.
Put it this way, to me it's like Womens Hockey. Love Hockey, there's no checking allowed in Womens but I still enjoy watching Hockey.

To me I just love Hockey. The excitement and suspense all game long and then the crowd pop when a goal is scored.
You should see how crazy minnesota fans are about hockey. They have a womens only hockey arena! That's a big reason they suck in every other sport though.

I really don't like the changes no-check makes to the women's game. When you have to referee a women's bantam or midget/HS game, they get very creative in ways to make up for not being able to hit, usually with their sticks, and it's a pain in the ass to call. I do think there should be a womens check division, but I honestly can't answer whether or not there would be interest in it, especially since up until college the mens game is technically co-ed.
That being said, I love watching the WBB team because Borseth is a friend/pretty good acquaintance of my aunt and uncle, so it's cool to see him coach.
Anyway, I'm watching the Wings game in an hour; should I stay here or go out to the bar?
Here, pro:
- TV is plenty big
- Can do my own thing on my computer and whatnot
Here, con:
- Girlfriend is gone for the weekend, roommate works tonight so nobody here
- Out of beer, would need to restock
Bar, pro:
- Quarter beers
Bar, con:
- Hate going alone
- Have to deal with bartender taking 34587 hours to get the game on the TV
Thoughts?

Bartenders are usually pretty good when it comes to big games with big pro teams. If you have to ask them, then they take their sweet time.
I would go personally.
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:46 PM ^
I've never personally went to the bar alone, unless I had a friend bartending, but in the above situation I would probably go to the bar

Yea, it's a bit of a weird situation at the moment. I'm on a different campus for spring/summer for an internship oppertunity that popped up near my girlfriend's school. It's nice to be around her, but I don't have a ton of friends here at the moment, and most of the ones I do have are on her softball team, so it sucks when they leave.
As for the dilemma tonight, I think one of her roommates might come over; she's annoying but at least she's a Wings fan.

Minnesota should probably focus a little more on there Football and Basketball and a little less on their womens hockey. But that is crazy, they have their own arena!

purdue takes their first lead of the game, 16-15.
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:24 PM ^
Michigan trails 15-18 at the media timeout. Borseth is starting to get pissed.
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:29 PM ^
Borseth calls a timeout. Michigan trails 15-22. purdue is on a 9-0 run.
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:38 PM ^
Michigan is closing the gap!
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:43 PM ^
Michigan trails 23-27 at the half.
Hope the ladies can pull it off, since these seniors are the foundation of the revived Womens program.
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:59 PM ^
purdue scores first to start the second half. 23-29

Playing some defense, getting some boards. YES.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:30 PM ^
Michigan down 40-44, has the ball. Borseth calls timeout. 7 minutes left to go.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:33 PM ^
Guh.
Defensive breakdown.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:38 PM ^
Michigan trails 46-53 with 2 minutes left.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:39 PM ^
Bah, too bad. This program has been on the verge of taking that next step for a few seasons now, but their issues down the stretch have killed them.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:40 PM ^
kevin borseth=tommy amaker. cant get to the NCAAs. NIT baby lol.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:43 PM ^
Would've loved to win it for the seniors.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:43 PM ^
Michigan down 10 with under a minute. Michigan fouling now.
Defensive breakdowns did them in.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:44 PM ^
all game but in the end Purdue is just the better team. Well at least the seniors can still hang their hats on a tournament bid which I dont think any seniors even 5th year have done before. Just finish the season strong and make some noise in March.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:48 PM ^
Final score: Michigan 49 purdue 60.
Michigan has one more game left in the regular-season.
2/26 at Iowa 3pm/WTKA 1050
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:50 PM ^
This is familiar, unable to win down the stretch. So frustrating.
For three games straight Borseth lets struggling players get extended minutes down the stretch. Kate Thompson was getting blown by on defense and finished with no points. I mean I'm not a coach but these decisions are frustrating and curious.
February 23rd, 2012 at 7:51 PM ^
The seniors have set the foundation for the program. They also leave Michigan having beat ohio 3 straight times including beating them at Crisler this year, ending ohio's bid for a perfect season.
Certainly, nothing to be ashamed of.
February 23rd, 2012 at 11:41 PM ^
So are we headed for the tournament?
February 24th, 2012 at 12:34 AM ^
Got to beat Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. At least Matt Gatens won't be playing.
February 24th, 2012 at 2:47 AM ^
It was too bad. Kate Thompson had a bad night, but I feel for all the seniors on the team. Have a good life, all.
