Quick Dorian O'Daniel Update

Submitted by Steve Lorenz on

I just got done chatting with top LB target Dorian O'Daniel who has recently set his visit date for the Spring Game on April 14th (teammate and five-star CB Kendall Fuller will join him). Dorian made a couple interesting comments:

  • Florida, who is a school he has high on his list, took 4 linebackers this weekend. When I asked if this affected his view of them, he said "somewhat"
  • On visiting Michigan: "I can't wait to go check out the Big House". I told him it was big and he said that "he can't wait to see it for himself".
  • When asked if Michigan was on top: "I wouldn't say they are on top, but I do favor them"

He also wanted to know what positions our eight weekend commits played, because he hadn't gotten a chance to check out the pull yet. 247 Sports has Michigan as "warm" along with Florida and Ohio, so the fact that he made a point to mention UF's linebacker pull might bump them down a notch. He's definitely excited to get up to Ann Arbor.

EDIT: Keith at Tremendous did a great breakdown of Dorian's game a while back: Dorian O'Daniel

On a somewhat related note I wonder if Florida's LB haul will influence E. J. Levenberry, who's top 3 is FSU, Florida and Michigan. It would be nice if the gator's haul could influence 2 top LB's toward us

all your linebacker recruits from Florida. Sounds like he definatley is looking at the depth chart and playing time is gonna be a major factor in his recruiting process. Hopefully he loves the Big House as much as all these other recruits do. Go get em Hoke.

Problem is, of course:

2013 LB Dorian O'Daniel says he will make is college choice announcement at the Bowl next January

2013 ATH and Rivals 5 Star Kendall Fuller plans on making his college selection at the Game next January

There looks to be quite a wait.  We've overcome that before, though.

would have loved to snag Diggs but adding Dorian O' Daniel and or Fuller  would make up for losing out to Diggs and would start a great connection to Good Counsel which has a few D-1 prospects every year.

When you say "Cass Tech type" that essentially means that everyone from that school who's any good, goes to Michigan.  That would be cool and all, but OLGC is kind of a national power (and 600 miles away at that ) whereas Cass Tech is a regional/local one. That would be sweet and all, but I'd be happy to get one guy out of there a year.

I was just wanting a feeder school outside of Michigan like a Good Counsel. I know we cant get every player that goes there, Fuller is a mortal lock to play with his brothers a Va Tech, but Dorian on the other hand is pretty high on the U of M. I know we cant get every D-1 prospect they have but one a year or 1 every other year will start a pipeline that could otherwise get a kid at Good Counsel who is just coming cause 2 or 3 of his teamates are already here. So I know Cass Tech and Good Counsel can never be the same kind of pipeline.

I heard a rumor that recently performed forensics tests reveal that Dorian O'Daniel is seventeeth cousins quadrice removed with Stefon Diggs, Yuri Wright and Alex Kozan.  Also, I heard that all four of them are going on a Navajo vision quest after the spring game, so Do'D's visit is gonna be really key for our recruiting prospects.

Fluid athlete, above average in coverage, and is a technique tackler. That Good Counsel program is a powerhouse on the east Texas level. To me, Kendal Fuller is the best prospect in the country, and I mean that. Get he and Dorian together on the same trip, let them lather up in some Schembechler Hall butter, take them on a tour of the Big House, and things can happen. I would openly call Michigan's class the best, if ya'll were to finish with the following.

-Laquon Treadwell

-Ty Isaac, who needs to go ahead and commit to Michigan. Someone name a recruit that is a better fit with a school than Ty Isaac is with Michigan.

-E.J Levenberry

-Dorian O'Daniel

You wouldn't even need Fuller at that point, but if you got him, Gawd, would that make your class amazing. Not to mention, that in adddition to the people I just mentioned, Michigan is probably in on 10-11 more 4 star kids.

While it would be nice to consider that class the best, I see OSU and Alabama having similar classes.  Alabama already has 3 top 35 players, and all 7 of their commits are in the top 200 players.  And while OSU only has 4 commits, they are all top 150 kids, and they will definitely be in on a lot of other highly rated players, there are at least 3 more in the top 50 I could see them picking up.  Those three will have some incredible recruiting classes, and I'm sure Florida and Texas will be up there too.
