SI All 2-Star FB Team (3 M players)

Submitted by Philip A. Duey on

Andy Staples has made up an all-star team of current players that received 2 stars (or less) during their recruitment.  Nathan Brink, Patrick Omameh, and (obvs) Jordan Kovacs all check in as important contributors that were not highly touted.  It's important to remember that even as we celebrate our 4-star haul this weekend, there are always surprise guys that will make a huge impact for us too!

I saw a list of first round draft picks that were ignored during recruiting cause they were too small, or too slow, or not strong enough, but they worked hard during college years and turned their 3* status to being the 3rd pick in the NFL draft (Matt Ryan).

the reason you don't see the SEC well represented is because of oversigning, they rarely have the issues most other teams have where sometimes a lack of depth in a position due to a bad series of injurys/transfers lets someone who was only going to be emergency depth/scout team in a perfect world a chance to step up and contribute in a big way

Pretty amazing/startling that we had 3 on that list.  Goes to show how thin we have beein in regards to recruiting over the past 3-5 years.  That being said I am glad all three of these guys are wearing Blue.

Their write-up on Brink probably isn't accurate now that Roh has been moved to SDE. I would sure hope that somebody other than Brink ends up starting at the 3-tech, and the other 3 spots would seem to be either wrapped up or narrowed to a couple of non-Brink guys.

if Brink is the starting SDE this upcoming season then in my eyes you made a Denard or Kovacs type jump in ability from one season to another. I dont think he will start with the incoming freshman class we grabbed this past season. But if he does then he earned it and will be a force on the d- line. So if he is starting I think it is a great sign about him and the coaches ability to coach these players.

some guys just take time to mature...and the program he came from isn't a lights out football factory. It's a middle class/farm community just southeast of Toledo. Their program was always a .500ish team with no real stars to speak of. Kovacs matured and became a very cerebral if not completely physical force...I lived this same type of deal. Left HS at 170# soaking wet...same type of community, infact we played Kovacs HS as a league rival...thus my understanding of it. By my Junior year at UM I was up to 240# and ran a 4.5 in the forty, computer timed...kids mature. It took some serious weight training and food consumption...and learning how to lift in the first place...so coaching yes. Growing...probably as much as anything else and I'm sure glad he did.

I got a feeling we will be adding the safety from Kentucky to the list in a couple years. His last name is Clark. At 6-4 200 with solid speed and agility, I see him making a big splash at some point.
