It's obvious, he didn't have a UM offer. Coach Hoke must have determined he wasn't good enough to play here. Maybe he didn't have good enough grades or just wasn't good enough physically.

It probably won't happen in this case, but it's bad form in general to slam kids who verbal other schools, becuase you never know who is going to change his mind in the next 50 weeks.
I think an analysis like Magnus did is appropriate, though.

It seems to me you'd be happier going over to RCMB and pretending like we did offer him in secret and MSU beat us out for him.

On a similar note, an in-state kid that I'd like to offer is Cam Dillard. He's a guard who could probably play center, is already pretty big, and has some quality early offers, including Arkansas, Oregon, Miss St, both Arizona schools, WVU and Mizzou. Not bad for a guard in February.

All I needed to see was "could probably play center." We need one badly so I am definitely on board for offering this kid.
