Byrd apparently had an awesome night, allegedly assaulting a bouncer and being arrested on suspicion of public intoxication. It basically says that Barlow either left the  bar in question or was kicked out, then came back, ostensibly to retrieve his wallet, and when they wouldn't let him back in, it all went downhill from there when Barlow returned with Byrd....

Assault is pretty broad. you punch a guy, spit on him , shove him or step on his toe it's assault.  I don't know the case but if you agressively touch someone who is working the powers that be would press assault charges.

MSU really has a knack for facing opponents when they've just been negatively affected.  Only B1G team to face ohio when they were missing a bunch of players in football, and now they face a Purdue basketball team down 2 people and in turmoil.  Not that they would have needed the help, but jeez!

Shitty article. Gives details on why Byrd is suspended but says nothing about the behavior that caused Barlow to be kicked off the team. Also, Byrd was the only person arrested in the incident but Barlow is off the team. I think we are missing a couple chapters here.

Although Purdue plays about 9-deep, losing Barlow is a big loss.  He may be their second best player behind Hummel.  He's a 6'5" guard who is fourth on the team in points, second in rebounds, second in assists and first in steals.  The game against MSU without both guys should be a blood bath.

Purdue didn't have a shot at a serious run for either the Big Ten or a great seed, but they certainly had a decent shot at making the tournament, especially with a home game against MSU and a road game against Michigan.  Play decent and win one of those two and you probably get into the tourney.

This will take a ton of wind out of their sails and could have a huge impact on whether they make the tournament or not.  Hate to see a team killed by things like this, but I'm not going to stick up for guys who break the law either

Since I can't post new subjects yet, I thought this might be the most appropriate setting to pose the question.  Although I'm not nearly as active a fan in non-football seasons, my attention is starting to be tugged at, albeit maybe cruely and teasingiy, BUT if we can overcome the handsomely compensated insult to college athletics tomorrow (Sat) at 9:00, doesn't it look like we're destined for a conference title???  Of the sliming matta's, MSU, and us, we seem to have the clearest road in terms of winning out.  Assuming 4 losses wins it and we hand OSU their 4th tomorrow night, here is a look at the remaining schedules for the competitors.

OSU at 10-4:   VS Illinois

                          VS Wisconsin   (Loseable)

                           @Northwestern

                           @ MSU             (Loseable)

MSU at 10-3:

                       @ Purdue

                       @ Minnesota (Loseable)

                        VS    Nebraska

                        @ Indiana     (Loseable/probable loss)

                        VS OSU

Michigan at 10-4:

                     @ Northwestern (Loseable)

                      VS Trainwreck of Purdue

                     @ Trainwreck of Illinois

                     @ Trainwrecked forever Penn State

Again.  Assuming 4 losses is the winner, doesn't a win tomorrow pretty much get us there barring a let down and massive disappointment at Northwestern?? I'm guessing MSU and OSU lose at least 1 more a piece.  Sorry this was a reply, would pose the question in a post if I could.  Thanks!  If this was a non-cap year for Matta I would be more worried about tomorrow, but Stern, Oh, I mean Mark Emmert, capped him off at $2 mill this year, so we only have to worry about one Sullinger instead of 3 or 4.

here is what I heard happened from a bouncer at the bar they got kicked out of 'Where Else?'. The hole team was there getting drunk with Barlow and Byrd being the most beligerant. Barlow was so bad he got cut off and said something to the effect of "Do you know who I am?" As they were being escorted out by the bouncers there was an altercation between the bouncers, Byrd, and Barlow. The police were called and once they arrived, the only one they saw throwing punches was Byrd so thats why he got arrested. The crap with the wallet is not true and it is just trying to give Barlow justfication for what he did. Barlow got kicked off the team because this was not his first suspension as he also got suspended at the end of last season and supposedly got it a few more scrapes with Painter this year. This is Byrd's first disciplinary problem.
