OT: Colin Cowherd makes fun of U of M women

Submitted by GoBlueGB on

Slow day in sports, and nothing to ground breaking here, but my least favorite sports commenatator Collin Cowherd took a little jap at ladies from Ann Arbor.  During his interview with Kate Upton, he states, "I have been to Ann Arbor before, and there is not many Kate Upton's there".   (I know its hard to match the beauty of Kate, but you get his point). Whats more stupid about the comment is how he thinks she was a Michigan student.  Interview here, http://deadspin.com/5885390/kate-upton-hangs-up-on-colin-cowherd-after-he-asks-what-shes-wearing-how-much-she-gets-paid .  (States this at :42 secs).  The whole interview i thought was just low class and ackward.

It seems to me most people like Cowherd the way they like a class clown. He's a great entertainer, but most people would think twice about inviting him to dinner ;)

In other words, I'm not at all surprised.

If you don't take him seriously, then he makes some decent background noise...

I agree though, what bothers me is that he makes connections between various things and incorrectly argues that they're directly related and states other as though he's the first person to come up with his analogies, which is rarely true.

For example, Cowherd is the kind of host that will make a theoretical (not fact-based argument) that the only cause of stadiums being sold out is the current winningness of the team. He won't show any correlation in data or, like, admit to us the fact that there are other contributing factors (tradition, marketing, whatever, this was just a random example).

Broad generalizations without knowing subtleties. And after you read this you could argue that I'm doing the same, but I've listened to enough Cowherd (not often, but enough) to have a valid opinion.

A sports talk radio guy who is a total douchebag...what's next?  Brady Hoke points while Denard produces another epic TD?

PS - Not bagging on your thread, just bagging on sports talk radio morons, of which there are many.  Too many.

generalize about most everything, sports and non sports.  While he sometimes makes a good point, he beats a point to death, resurrects it and beats it to death yet again.

She also hung up on his ass in that interview after he asked her some questions about being unemployed and wearing sweat pants and about how much she makes. She is climbing my cancer list (The Change Up reference if you need it).

Colin Cowherd is a stroke.  I wouldn't take much he says seriously.  He is just trying to piss people off.  He's kind of a low budget Skip Bayless.

in terms of the intelligence of what he says.  Sometimes he has really good insights, other times he makes completely assinine generalizations that aren't supportable in the least.  Either way, he must be a total jackass to be around.

You guys should treasure your women.  There are many beautiful females in East Lansing (my superficial parts tell me), but very few of them have any brain matter, or perhaps in some cases it's there but not yet active.

There are exceptions - otherwise I'd be a lonely bugger.

But you guys in Ann Arbor had/have a lot more opportunities to have intelligent interactions with women than I ever did.

Mixing sexual tension with high-minded discussion is a fucking beautiful thing.  You could be doing that right now instead of talking about some dude named Cowherd.

Is it just me though, or has the quality of the women gone down in EL?  As a college student visiting the campus regularly, I was in constant awe of the beauty of the undergrads there.  It was unrelenting.  Now, as a 30 something professional who happens to blow through EL occasionally for a day or two I am much less impressed.  I would think that as I get older, I would appreciate beauty more in all of its forms, but at least at MSU that does not seem to be the case.  Is it just me?

We've really taken a hard turn in a bad direction on this board in the last couple of days in terms of misogynistic crap like this or border-line homophobia.  The swimsuit issue seems to have turned people into teenagers.

Most people just said that Cowherd is an idiot.  An MSU fan, above, said that Ann Arbor women should be appreciated for their intelligence.  Your post and maybe a few others pulled this thread down (though, admittedly, anything to do with Colin Cowherd starts pretty low).

You should find another blog if you want to call women cows.  This blog is not RCMB, or whatever it's called.  It's one thing to start a thread about something that few people care about.  It's another to post something that makes Michigan fans look like a bunch of doucebags.

As for being a p.c. monitor and protector of women, I'm just pointing out common decency.  I'm guessing that you would react similarly if someone made a crack about African Americans and fried chicken and watermelons...Or maybe you wouldn't, but either way, grow up.

was about Cowherd making fun of UM women.  I have three daughters who are alums, rather pretty in my biased opinion.  That's why I got on this post.  Why did you get on this post, to monitor and profess that you are above us who make jokes?  To top it off you accuse me of being a racist.  Nice try professsor.

But anyway, you can't just write something off as a "joke" and call it a day.  As with my example above, nobody would get away with a "joke" similar to yours about black people - and they shouldn't...And, yeah, I did check out this thread b/c I thought it might get ugly.  The users of this blog police this place pretty heavily, as you've probably noticed.

Washington D.C., for example, has a police force, but people still commit crimes...Further:

A. I don't see how I was protecting minorites;

B. I'm just sorry that you don't see how calling the women of MSU "bovine" is an ugly thing to do and that the board has taken a dip lately in terms of our brah-ishness.

Colin Cowherd is an idiot.  There is no point in making a thread each time he does something stupid.  The Internet would literally be 99% Colin Cowherd threads if this were the case.

"jab"

Wouldn't clinical psychologists declare someone who talks to himself for hours every day and makes no sense, borderline insane?  Sometimes, I just start listening to static or trying to tune in distant AM stations in the middle of the day to find alternatives to his blathering idiocy.

Cowherd is the "bad boy" at ESPN.  You never know what he'll say next.  He's a real loose cannon, that guy.  Don't tell him he can't wear jeans with a suit jacket... he's a maniac!

Just another ESPN talking head who has nothing to say, and the biggest reason why I swore off sports talk radio in favor of blogs like this.
