Petition for MSU night game next season
Saw this petition getting kicked around on the interwebs and thought I'd post to see what the board thinks. Personally, as awesome as the night game was against Notre Dame, I don't really want an entire day for sparty juggaloes to get drunk and destroy our beautiful campus. Thoughts?

Is a night game that late in the season possible due to weather?
February 15th, 2012 at 11:39 AM ^
It's not in January. What's the big deal?
February 15th, 2012 at 11:52 AM ^
The big deal is the rule that night games in November cannot happen in the Big Ten Conference.
February 15th, 2012 at 12:15 PM ^
Been debunked?
February 15th, 2012 at 1:27 PM ^
Except for the part where that's totally not true:
February 15th, 2012 at 3:11 PM ^
We live in Michigan fergodsakes. Winter rarely waits until January.
February 15th, 2012 at 6:22 PM ^
It waited until February this year.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:37 AM ^
There is no need to validate their existence with a night game. You handle the rivarly games as follows: beat ND & OSU, ignore MSU. - It's really the best way of dealing with them.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:41 AM ^
Agreed. 3rd rival is not worth a night game. This is a wasted petition is you ask me.
February 15th, 2012 at 2:44 PM ^
Aren't 99.99% of online petitions wasted petitions?
February 15th, 2012 at 4:31 PM ^
YUUUP!
February 15th, 2012 at 4:16 PM ^
Won't someone think of the couches?!
February 15th, 2012 at 9:51 PM ^
Thankfully, STAEE fans and students are used to BYOC
February 15th, 2012 at 8:03 PM ^
is to get lil bro reved up to think that we have given them "Rival" status. We dont need to play them at night. Save it for a real team.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:19 PM ^
So, the other in-state school that belongs to the same conference that we do who has played us over 100 times and beat us 4 years in a row is not our number 2 rival? But ND, who we've played about a third as many times is our number 2 rival? Time to sober up, MSU is the number 2 rival. If they weren't, RRod might still be the coach.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:49 AM ^
This is absurd and a tired meme. They are our in-state rival whom we compete against for recruits as well as our main competition for the division title. Not to mention that whole 4 in a row thing.
There are valid concerns about an MSU night game. Yours isn't one of them.
February 15th, 2012 at 1:40 PM ^
Nebraska will be our year-in year-out best competition for the division title, not MSU.
February 15th, 2012 at 2:03 PM ^
Please, if it's not Michigan State then it's no one. Nebraska's days of being a perennial powerhouse are over and it's only going to get worse as their Texas pipeline dries up over time (which it will since they don't regularly play any teams from down that way any more)
February 15th, 2012 at 2:52 PM ^
True. Now tell me where MSU's pipeline is.
February 15th, 2012 at 3:22 PM ^
Not sure if you'd call that a "pipeline" per se. In any event, they've been doing okay with that level of talent and still, doing so is the exception rather than the rule.
Nebraska over the past 10 years or so has been recruiting about the same level as MSU but out of Texas. Now even that will dry up as that talent will end up at up and coming schools down that way such as TCU and Houston since those schools still play their games in in the south central United States unlike Nebraska.
In any event I'm assuming what you mean is that in the choice of "Michigan State or noone" you'd choose "no one" since you clearly don't think that Michigan State will be very competitive going forward.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:50 AM ^
I hate this meme almost as much as I hate Sparty. They don't need our validation. They beat us four straight. They played for the Big Ten title, and would have been in the Rose Bowl any year other than 2011.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:58 AM ^
Validation, but oh how they want it. Like Golum and the precious.
February 15th, 2012 at 12:39 PM ^
You know what I hate? Saying "they would have went to the Rose Bowl any other year than 2011." It is what whiney Spartans say who are butthurt about having the best 4 year span of their lifetime and still not going to the Rose Bowl. These are the same people who bitch about Michigan going to a BCS bowl when they weren't eligible. Guess what....it was 2011 and they didn't go to the Rose Bowl. Again. They will deserve our respect when they stop judging their success on what Michigan does every year.
February 15th, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
Absolutely pathetic post.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:38 AM ^
Not in favor. I frankly don't trust the MSU or OSU fanbases to come here and behave themselves for a night game - and I especially wouldn't want to have to go to EL or Columbus at night.
February 15th, 2012 at 12:15 PM ^
Why I don't like the idea of a night game against Ohio or MSU. After the MSU game last year I almost got in a fight with a State fan, and he was obviously trying to get in one with me. I was able to get away from the guy, but I couldn't help to think it would be much worse after a night game. After 7 more hours of drinking, the fans would likely be a lot rowdier. I liked the idea of doing the game against Notre Dame, because the fans are still very dedicated, but they're less aggresive than MSU and OSU fans.
February 15th, 2012 at 2:27 PM ^
What are they gonna do to you?
February 15th, 2012 at 11:40 AM ^
Save Night Games for traditional powers.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:42 AM ^
Yeah, like ND?
February 15th, 2012 at 11:46 AM ^
Yeah, like ND.......I feel like you are implying that ND is not a traditional power.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:48 AM ^
And I feel like he is right.
February 15th, 2012 at 12:21 PM ^
"traditional power", not "national power".
February 15th, 2012 at 4:33 PM ^
So who would you say is a traditional power if not ND? By your implication, it seems as though UM would not be a traditional power.
February 15th, 2012 at 12:21 PM ^
ND is without doubt a traditional power.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:39 AM ^
I'd love to see a night game against them next season. This is the game I want to come to all the way from Tennessee, and it would be even better at night.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:40 AM ^
But I'm in agreement with you- after their last visit under the light of day, I can't imagine them running around town in mass after midnight, after having a full day to drink. Get them home by nightfall.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:53 AM ^
And pray the moon isn't full.
February 15th, 2012 at 12:16 PM ^
I can't be fully objectionable to that.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:43 AM ^
This petition will never work, but I like the idea of playing them under the lights. Anything that will help us win is welcomed, IMO.
February 15th, 2012 at 1:54 PM ^
What are you talking about? Petititions always work. The Jay Z halftime show during the OSU game was insane this year!!
February 15th, 2012 at 11:44 AM ^
Love the idea. Makes it alot easier to hide spartan bodies behind portable toilet rows. I fear no fan base coming to town.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:51 AM ^
They mostly come at night...mostly.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:59 AM ^
Nice work, Bronson.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:55 AM ^
How about a petition for no more noon games? Allows students to get up and allows for everyone to eat a quality lunch and not breakfast before the game. 1 and 3o clock games are perfect.
February 15th, 2012 at 12:00 PM ^
The almighty TV networks have decreed otherwise. The timeslots are noon, 3:30 and evening.
But before you feel too sorry for yourself, consider this: the Big Ten schools in the Central time zone (there are six of them) often have to play games at 11:00 a.m.
February 15th, 2012 at 12:18 PM ^
Imagine more interested fanbases having to get up to watch their team at 9 am.
February 15th, 2012 at 12:30 PM ^
I lived in Seattle for 5 years and loved watching the games at 9am on Sat morning. Get up, roll down to the Rocksport and have a large omlette and watch the game. No waiting nervously for kickoff. Then party down all day after a W.
I don't understand why everyone thinks noon is so early. Especially the students who just have to walk over to the stadium.
February 15th, 2012 at 1:17 PM ^
Because they went to bed at 6AM on Friday night. #collegeproblems
February 15th, 2012 at 3:08 PM ^
Just don't go to bed until after the game is over. Turn Friday night's party into Saturday morning's tailgate.
February 15th, 2012 at 4:36 PM ^
I was in Seattle for the San Diego State game visiting a friend. We had too good of a time Friday night to be up at 9am for the game.
