Hope we get at least ONE commit.
We lead for Tillman- though he said he wanted to draw out the process.
We also lead for Dukes, who said he wanted to take a visit before he decided... hopefully we can pull a commit from him.
Things are optimistic, but quiet around Fox, and i'm not sure what to think of him.
Don't expect a commit from Treadwell, but hopefully a visit puts us back on top of his list.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:15 PM ^
Man, the more Tillman visits the more i link him and Diamond together
February 9th, 2012 at 6:22 PM ^
I hope that's not the case
February 9th, 2012 at 11:37 PM ^
but Tillman doesnt remind me of Diamond at all. I have liked everything i heard from Tillman. I think the more we can get a recruit on campus, to mingle with possible future teammates and the coaching staff the better. It doesnt always pan out, but i think it will always be a positive.
February 9th, 2012 at 8:19 PM ^
Tillman has said that Michigan and Alabama are tied for the lead.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:34 PM ^
Also, 2014 OT Andy Bauer from Saint Louis.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:35 PM ^
I think ya'll should be on commit watch for Chris Fox, because he's been sounding like an early Michigan commit since he was offered.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:39 PM ^
He'd be a great pick up. Y'all.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:43 PM ^
I've ignored my desire to write it 98% of the time, I'm not perfect. Don't judge me.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:45 PM ^
Having also lived in the South, I have to admit that y'all is an incredly useful phrase. I can't think of any better to describe large groups of people.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:49 PM ^
That's "all y'all", of course (I lived in Houston a couple of years).
February 9th, 2012 at 5:49 PM ^
Nothing wrong with using y'all. Don't let them bother you. I have some quick questions for you:
Alabama already has 7 commits (all 7) in the Rivals 250, is this going to turn into your best recruiting class ever? Or has Saban just got some of his biggest recruits to commit earlier than normal?
Also, how many spots will he have available this year?
Sorry for asking so much I just am curious as you seem to know quite a bit about Michigan recruiting so I figured you would know a lot more about 'Bama.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:55 PM ^
This has a great chance to be one of out better classes. We're losing a lot on defense, and this class is certainly making up for it. This is how Tricky Nicky recruits, a lot of athletes, a lot of speed, and when they get to campus see what position better suits them.
As for possible spots in this class, lets be honest, who in the hell knows with Nick Saban? I'm not a fan of oversigning, or gray shirting, but Saban utilizes these things better than anyone. We could open up with only 17 slots available, and next thing you know, 27 are available. Is it right? No. Did the NCAA create this monster, and the monster the SEC has become? Certainly.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:01 PM ^
I know you are against oversigning and gray shirting, but what is your opinion on his abuse of the medical hardship scholarships?
February 9th, 2012 at 6:17 PM ^
But like anything else, it gets abused by people.
February 9th, 2012 at 8:27 PM ^
......you mean sleezy SEC coaches.
February 9th, 2012 at 9:11 PM ^
I live south of the Mason Dixon (although Maryland is one of those mid-Atlantic kinda states). A y'all slips out every now and again.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:21 PM ^
Medical hardship scholarships are actually the ones I dislike the least, because they do the least harm to the student and they are the easiest to sniff out when they're BS.
If a kid gets told by Saban that he's getting put on medical hardship, the worst case scenario is that he gets a free education but doesn't get to play football anymore. Just like any other kid who is told (whether explicitly or implicitly) that seeing the field likely won't happen, he can still transfer.
A kid proposed with a medical hardship has two options - stay and finish out his degree for free, or transfer to a school where he thinks he has a better shot at playing. At that point in your college career, you've probably realized that the NFL isn't in your future, so staying and getting the free degree from Alabama is better than a degree from Florida A&M where you might get to see the field for a year.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:33 PM ^
I think that the medical hardship scholarship is really great if it is not being abused. I think it is just another way for coaches like Saban to cut players that are marginal contributers.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:41 PM ^
But there's no rule against cutting marginal contributors. Scholarships are one year promises, so if Saban wanted to cut a kid, he could. That would be a dick move, because it fucks up the kid's future, especially if he doesn't have the money or the grades to get into a decent school without football.
But at least with a medical hardship Saban tells the kid "Hey look, even if you were on the team, you aren't getting in. You're free to head elsewhere, but if you want to stay at Alabama, I'll make sure you can finish your degree on the athletic department."
February 9th, 2012 at 6:48 PM ^
I get the point of the kid being able to finish his degree on a scholarship.
Saban seems to use the medical hardship scholarship as a way to get down to the magic number of 85.

i live in southern Ohio and we all say it here too. lol sometimes its hard to not type it out also
February 9th, 2012 at 11:32 PM ^
and a great addition to this board. Great insights from an outside perspective.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:26 PM ^
"Y'all" is as much a part of the south as "Well..." is of the midwest or "eh" is of Canada.
My attitude on it: live and let live.
February 10th, 2012 at 8:37 AM ^
I am not one of your many detractors on the board who blast you for everything you write or neg you on sight (and I didn't neg you here), but being Canadian I take exception to your post.
Now I can't pretend to speak for all Canadians, but for those of us from Nova Scotia to Ontario don't use the word eh. It may be a western Canada thing (I don't know because I don't spend a lot of time out west) but for those of us in the central/eastern provinces do not use eh.
In fact, the only ones I have heard use it were the two idiots Bob and Doug McKenzie in their foolish show. NOw that must have been based on something (so I am sure somewhere in Canada people utilize that foolish "eh") but you have to remember...Canda is a big place. Geographically we are larger than the USA and in fact most Canadians don't say eh after every sentence. It would be like someone that was not an American believing everyone in the USA spoke with a southern twang. It just isn't reality.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:37 PM ^
I really like our chances with all of them but Chris Fox. I haven't heard his name yet. But Dukes is a life long Michigan fan?
February 9th, 2012 at 5:42 PM ^
...iirc Michigan and Colorado were his two early (earliest?) offers. Great news still as I thought he had cooled on Michigan somewhat in favor of Colorado.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:44 PM ^
Fox is as high on Michigan as the rest of them, if not more so.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:51 PM ^
Fox and Dukes are by far the two most likely to commit this weekend. Get familiar with that name the kid is excellent and very high on Michigan.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:40 PM ^
Yes, Dukes is from Columbus area, but is a life long fan of Blue. This will be his first ever trip to AA. However, his coach aparently told him not to commit while on his trip... not that he doesn't like Michigan, but he wants the kid to really digest the trip, and not act on impulse.
Fox is visiting a few schools in the Midwest, not just AA.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:54 PM ^
You basically just paraphrased premium info.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:59 PM ^
If he's bringing something over form another site, that's wrong, but common.
Shouldn't do it, but your post cracks me up. Who are you claiming he's stealing from?
February 9th, 2012 at 6:02 PM ^
From our old buddy Tim.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:30 PM ^
But you probably still pay for music and would have voted for SOPA or PIPA if given the chance. I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure information isn't copyrighted.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:40 PM ^
My understanding was that we shouldn't post premium info here even though it is not copyrighted.
If it is okay with the mods then, I'm sorry for bringing it up.
February 9th, 2012 at 7:04 PM ^
I guess my understanding was that while it isn't okay to cut and paste premium info, that paraphrasing was okay. I re-read the MGoBoard FAQ, which directed me to this: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/meta-premium-information-policy
From Brian:
- You might as well relate the gist of some paywalled content. It'll come out anyway.
- Do not C&P. Rephrase.
- Don't relate every last detail. Leave the paywalled content some value. In this case, "it looks good for Dee Hart and we should be getting good news relatively soon" would probably work.
- If you do so, provide a link. Don't just say "Site X says." The link will draw some traffic, may spur conversions, and will help the site with search engine rankings.
February 9th, 2012 at 7:12 PM ^
Thanks for the clarification.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:18 PM ^
It's not like I'm saying anything earth-shattering. Isn't ALL information at one point "premium"? It's not like any (most) of us have a direct line to recruits.
I think what I posted is pretty much harmless.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:24 PM ^
Agree. No harm. No foul.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:26 PM ^
I'm only saying that it is premium because it is behind a paywall.
February 9th, 2012 at 5:57 PM ^
In all seriousness though you have to respect a kid who takes a visit that he absolutely loves and still goes home to digest everything. It shows a maturity that most 18 year olds don't have, those are the kids that want to make the best choice for their future.
February 9th, 2012 at 8:20 PM ^
Jaron told me all of this and more on Tuesday. I do think he'll eventually go with Michigan, but I wouldn't expect it to come this weekend, although I wouldn't rule it out.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:10 PM ^
2 offensive lineman. 2 wide receivers. Pattern from last year, commits come by twos. Therefore, all four will commit this weekend. Makes sense right?
February 9th, 2012 at 6:11 PM ^
Will Riley Norman be getting a Michigan offer?
February 9th, 2012 at 7:33 PM ^
Even if he does, he seems ticketed for Michigan State
February 9th, 2012 at 6:12 PM ^
i would take any of them (not like i have a choice tho) with open arms if they choose to become a wolverine
February 9th, 2012 at 6:13 PM ^
These kids better be aware that if they do commit, UM is the ONLY campus they'll be visiting as per Hoke rule 1.
Also, I think I read that D. Thomas visited his cousin Dunn at O$U. I wonder how Brady plans to handle situations like that.
February 9th, 2012 at 6:23 PM ^
He had some kind of banquet at OSU for being one of the top Jr. in Ohio.
