Jordan Diamond not to Michigan per Ondre Pipkins

Submitted by Steve Lorenz on

Per Ondre Pipkins, who I just spoke with, and his Twitter, Jordan Diamond is "100% not coming to Michigan".

EDIT: "his twitter" being Pipkins, not Diamond, just to be clear.

EDIT2: I am just going on what Ondre told me. I have no first hand sources with Diamond so I am only reporting what Ondre has said.

i was talking about the signing day period. I remember during the season, people were talking about how Michigan would save spots for big time recruits like Diggs, Diamonds or some surprise. but last time i checked we got Henry and Norfleet to close out.

At first I thought you were arguing that instead of putting all of our scholarship eggs into the Diamond/Reeves/Kozan/Wright/etc. basket we should have filled the spots with some project 3 stars instead (because it's better than nothing).... which OK I'll hear that argument.

Then you lost me when you had expectations that we should have got five 5 stars instead of two. (1) That's a pretty large thing to expect to happen. (2) Hoke & co. went after those 5 star recruits hard and just missed out. What more do you want from the coaching staff?

There was a time last summer where it seems like he was on the verge of commiting. Then something happened and made him start looking a lot more at other schools and there was at least one unofficial visit that was canceled. It also appeared the coaching staff backed off him for several months and really went after some West Coast linemen. Whatever seed of doubt he had last summer made me skeptical that he would ever commit to us.

Playing time is a really big deal for him.  It was reported that his mom was very concerned with our OL haul.  This was around the same time when we heard about our lead slipping.

It makes sense to be concerned with guys like Kalis and Magnuson in this class.  I just wish that he would take the competition as a challenge and welcome it.

I remember Diamond saying that we welcomed the competition.  I didn't believe it when he said it, but I don't blame him for saying it.  All these last minute recruits we "lost" out on do not really bother me.  Sure it would have been great had they chose UM, but usually the ones that wait until the end are the "me first" types, not saying that is wrong, but they are the ones that are most likely to transfer, complain, give up when they can no longer control their situation.  I hope we save the scholarships for some 5th year seniors and shore up our class early again with solid recruits that represent the high standards of UM.

from some school in PA who lived with a guardian and was ALL the rage and everyone was drooling to get this kid and he played his recruitment back and forth and left the spotlight on way too long...

and in the end thanks to cars, tats, A-hole behavior, memorablilia salesgate, and any other number of things was then relegated to the suplemental draft and above all...was picked up by the Raiders of all teams where he will simply collect a paycheck...which is likely much less than he received from that school down south that you can smell from Toledo...so when we miss out on 'must have kids' where we already picked up some great talent and MICHIGAN MEN....I really don't sweat it anymore...best to dance with the devil you do know...than one you don't

I think Coach Hoke and the staff wanted/planned to sign 6 offensive linemen.  On signing day he was still talking about adding two very large pieces to this class.  If we were to miss on Garnett, Buller, Stacey and Kozan I think a lot of folks in Schembechler Hall would be disappointed about the end of the 2012 recruiting season.

That isn't to say the class is bad or a failure or even not awesome (as I said in a lower post, if Kalis/Magnuson are as good as advertised the class should be just as rad as its reputation), but just isn't quite what it coulda/shoulda/mighta been.

Wouldn't be suprised if Pipkins was say that just to make up for previously saying Diamond was committed, i.e. Diamond is coming, but Pipkins is helping build suspense/suprise.

Who were apparently committed? It's certainly not due to playing time as the competiting schools have as many if not more OL on the roster and in the recruiting class. Once again I don't get it.
