Could Jeremy Clark play CB?

Submitted by TJLT03 on
We missed out on Reeves. With three safeties in the fold and Clark's alleged speed, it is possible he can play corner at Michigan? Are his hips fluid enough? Of course, 6'4" safeties are extremely rare, let alone corners, but it's worth discussing.

I'm sure the coaches will do a fine job placing him where he can contribute the most.  He will get his shot.  I could definitely see him playing WR at some point.  Speed and height is always a great combo.  Is the kid raw?  Haven't really had the time to look over his videos.

I actually think a lot of the fun in participating in a football blog is guessing at what's going to happen in the future. I know I talk about it all the time with my friends. I don't see why it would be a problem to do it on mgoblog too.

I'd much rather read about how Tressel was a B+ compared to Urban's A+ and we should most likely explore our options in the MAC, since we'll never beat his A+ coaching and his handful of recruits he beat us out on this year.

It's been a long time sense I watched any video on Clark, but based on the fact that he is 6'4" alone makes it very difficult to have the hips and footwork needed for the corner position.  To me, he is either a safety or WR or if he packs on bunch weight, then a LB.

Getting Reeves or Wright would have been a nice luxury, but we aren't in a spot where guys need to move to corner.  The top three guys from the end of last year (Floyd, Countess, and Avery) are all back and two of them have multiple years of eligibility left.  Hollowell and Taylor played on special teams as true freshmen, and Talbott has seen game time.  Add another 4-star freshman this year, and there are plenty of options before we get to moving guys who aren't a natural fit for the position.

Believe it or not, we don't need people to move to corner!

It'd be great to have another high-level CB but it's a luxury right now. We've got Countess and Floyd next year with a bunch of backups that have an unusual amount of game experience (thanks awful 2009 and 2010 secondaries).

If anything besides S, Clark sounds like a WR. Fast straight line 6-4 guy. But my money is on Clark being a project at S.

i don't think it will be necessary. getting reeves would have been great, but floyd's locking down a spot for one more year, countess for 2-3 more, richardson ideally will redshirt and take floyd's spot after he graduates. plus backups and i'm guessing hoke will recruit hard for corners for the 2013 class.

who knows, maybe it could work, but i don't see it as necessary.

Jeremy Clark is an intriguing recruit. He wasn't on most team's radars because a year ago he was under six feet tall. All of a sudden he's 6'4", but still has all of his athleticism. What I'd like to know is, is he done growing? What if adds another inch or two? Also, everyone pegs him as a safety or receiver because he's 195, but if he grew four inches so recently, isn't it possible that his bulk hasn't caught up with that spurt yet? Since he'll likely RS this fall, what if he's 230+ in a couple years?

It will be interesting to see, but I dont think he's a CB.

At least good ones.  Off the top of my head, I can barely think of any that were considered top-level.  Only one excellent Michigan corner comes to mind with that kind of size, Lance Dottin, who played around '90, '91 or so.  He was a good 6'3" or so and had the build of a safety to boot, but had the requisite make-up speed and hips to play out on the wide corner.

Other than that, the only great big (and great big) CB I ever remember seeing in the NFL was the incomparable Mel Blount, for my money still the greatest all-around CB in history.  When they change the rules of the game because you're dominating too much, you're pretty good.  He was listed at  6'3".
