I have a stong feeling that the next 10 years will see plenty of recruiting battles like this. I just hope that we can win our fair share both in recruiting and on the field. Welcome to the Big 2 2012 to ? version.

I would rather win Kalis than lose Reeves personally.  We won many head to head battles with OSU but lost his one.  We will lose others.  Those are the breaks.  Win consistently on the field and these battles get easier.  Plus even when Cooper was there they had hire ranked classes often.  Didn't prevent us from winning.

The key for OSU is to get Ohio kids.  We are doing damage there.  In addition, honestly, I can't think of the last great college player who came to the midwest from Massachusetts.  This not a high powered football area.  Most of these kids tend to underperform.  He was a very good player but not a game changer from what I could see.  And that was playing other Mass programs so not sure how that will even translate.

were trending down while we were on an incredible roll, something is amiss and illogical. you can't always get what you want but you get what you need.

ace is saying on twitter, gotta remind ourselves that we're still going to have a top 10 class.  but man, we sure have stumbled down the stretch.  looking where we were in the summer, and where we are now, its hard not to feel a bit dissapointed.

Kid chose his friend over a better opportunity in every way: depth chart, academics, coaching (Mattison > Fickell). We never had a chance with him - his godfather (for some reason) ran his recruitment and clearly wanted him at OSU with his son. Whatever, on to the next ones.

Im almost begining to think that getting so many commits early wasnt necessarily the best thing that could happen. It seems like more an more of these recruits are stalling at their perceived chances of playing early, and are scared off by the quanity and quality of recruits we have had committed since basically the end of summer. This mostly applies to OL recruits, and we are spot thing at CB, but as a whole its odd that we havent been able to capitalize on the tremendous recruiting momentum that we started with in the summer.

Really? It wasn't a good thing that we brought in so many quality recruits early and are going to finish with a top ten class? Id say that's a good problem to have...it certainly sucks that we missed out on some big time recruits but like Hoke says, you're not going to bat a thousand...even if we don't get another commit we still have a heck of a class coming in.

Jesus everyone needs to relax.  A few things to note:

1.  OSU has thrived off the misery of others.  More than a quarter of their class are now from other schools, with what, 6 from PSU alone?  Let's see what they can do without the implosion of another Big Ten School.

2. Hoke is fighting uphill battles in nearly everyone of these 50/50s.  This kid had his best friend and godfather basically forcing him one way for the last month.  Also see Garnett and Kozan.

3. We already have a great class.

4. I would strongly question how OSU's team chemistry is going to play out over the next few years.  When you get 18-year-old idiots committing because of a name and not a relationship, you get 6-6 Florida.

That said, I still can't beleive a recruit would ever choose to play for Luke Fickell over Greg Mattison.  lol.

Oh one more thing -

Statisically, on the field success tends to lead to recruiting success the year after that season.  Hoke has a great start to the 2013 class, and it will only get better.

Would our Top 10 class be so, without OSU imploding? We still get the M guys, but do we get the Ohio kids, especially because Meyer likes to strongly recruit whoemever is coming to Michigan?

Some people on this thread are incredible.  The kid wanted to go play with family.  He liked OSu too from his visit.  Why is there so much crying over this?

The coaches did a good job with this class and it's a top 10 class. But can't hide that I'm disappointed how this is finishing up. We're really getting blanked by our top targets. I would WR use to Urb pulling classes like this. His name is huge and ohio has cache with recruits from recent success. I would expect Ohio to have a big 2013 class. 2013 is where well really see how UM can battle them head to head. it's obvious they're watching who we offer and gong after them. Should be interesting to watch.
