Commitment Sunday?
So I hear that today could be big in recruitment, with lots of prospects deciding later this evening. 2-3 awesome recruits commiting to M would be the only thing that can cheer me up after the B'ball debacle.
Scout.com says Kozan is deciding today between Iowa and Michigan. Some recent reports and our shifted focus suggest he may be headed to Iowa, but I still want to believe that he will show up in AA with Jordan Diamond in Fall.
Speaking of which, what's the decision timeline for Grant, Diamond, Reeves?

I'm just going to believe that somewhere in that text it says that Dorial Green-Beckham is a silent commit.
January 29th, 2012 at 3:50 PM ^
IIRC Diamond is Feb 3, Reeves and Grant could possibly decide today
January 29th, 2012 at 3:54 PM ^
Kozan: definitely today (between UM & Iowa)
Grant: probably today (probably UM)
Muller: probably today (50/50 UM & Rutgers)
Reeves: maybe today, but it will be quiet (just telling the coaches), so we might not hear immediately (50/50 UM & OSU)
Henry: probably not today, visit and announcement TBD
Diamond: not today, he announces on the 3rd
January 29th, 2012 at 5:31 PM ^
He's 52/48. Pay attention.
January 29th, 2012 at 5:42 PM ^
Didn't Henry visit yesterday?
January 29th, 2012 at 3:51 PM ^
For whatever reason, I get the feeling that we are not/were never really in the running for Kozan. Is Iowa pretty much the consensus prediction at this point?
January 29th, 2012 at 3:59 PM ^
How can we not be in the running when we are in his final two schools?
January 29th, 2012 at 3:53 PM ^
Does anyone know when Muller is going to decide?
Nevermind.
January 29th, 2012 at 3:55 PM ^
should be announcing today.
January 29th, 2012 at 3:55 PM ^
So the offer to Chris Muller makes me think that we are out of the race for Kozan and/or Diamond, or that the coaches do not want to wait until Feb 3 to finalize their OL class.
January 29th, 2012 at 3:58 PM ^
We were recruiting 3 prior to his decision.
January 29th, 2012 at 3:58 PM ^
We offered him the day Garnett decided (presumably after he told the coaches his decision), so he was a replacement for Garnett. I think the coaches just want 3 options for 2 slots, but the Muller offer doesn't mean much wrt the other 2, imo.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:03 PM ^
Unless we are recruiting a position specialist for Center, I am not sure why we will want 3 more offensive linemen.
I definitely don't know more than the coaches.. just trying to rationalize.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:16 PM ^
All I'm saying is the new offer was a result of Garnett commiting elsewhere, not a bad feeling about Kozan or Diamond. I think we want 2 linemen, not 3, so if 2 were to commit, we would tell the last one that there was no space left.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:18 PM ^
Kozan is the only one that can play center. Our OT numbers are very low and Muller and Diamond are both OTs. If all three decide to commit we will take all of them.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:01 PM ^
our OL recruiting right now. With only 4 guys committed and this being a position of great need, I hope the coaches are really pouring it on in the final stretch. I know AJ Williams could possibly switch over but all the indications are right now he's still a TE. Let's hope for a strong finish.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:09 PM ^
FWIW I have heard that Williams is more playing ready at tackle than Diamond is. And that Diamond absolutely has to redshirt and needs a lot of work at tackle.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:13 PM ^
The staff has repeatedly told AJ Williams he's a tight end. AJ Williams has repeatedly said (and tweeted) he's a tight end.
Sure, anything could happen, but no reason to project AJW as an OL when all relevant parties say he's playing TE.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:21 PM ^
AJ is a tight end. That's it.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:21 PM ^
Isn't he only (ha) like 240 lbs? He would have to put on serious weight to be able to play Tackle.
January 29th, 2012 at 5:45 PM ^
January 29th, 2012 at 6:07 PM ^
You're too much of a high-roller for me. I can't take that bet.
January 29th, 2012 at 6:13 PM ^
Don't you know never to flaunt your wealth in an election year?
January 29th, 2012 at 4:07 PM ^
Kozan could project as a center.
And the coaches always wanted a total of 3 more, with the net loss of Stacey.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:08 PM ^
I'm saw that henry is looking at announcing on tuesday. No link just what is being talked about around the blogosphere.

2-3 awesome recruits commiting to M would be the only thing that can cheer me up after the B'ball debacle.I love the hoops team, but I can't get too down about this. We lost to a top 5 team on the road. We just needed a split of the Purdue/Ohio road trips this week and we got it.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:21 PM ^
It still sucks to lose to Ohio..
January 29th, 2012 at 4:25 PM ^
in order to do what? We need every win possible in order to have a chance to win the BIG Ten.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:30 PM ^
Realistically, we're not going to win the Big Ten this year. We have a six-man rotation (four of which are underclassmen), we have one actual inside threat, and we have one ballhandler (who is a true freshman), who basically is not allowed to ever rest because we can't function without him. Beilein has been doing some masterful coaching to get us even possibly envisioning league contention.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:40 PM ^
but I am supposed to believe that we are a sweet 16 team. Not by you, but by others in the postgame thred.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:41 PM ^
That's not necessarily contradictory. It's a lot easier to go 2-0 than 14-4 or whatever. Besides, whoever wins the Big Ten will probably be a Final Four contender, not just Sweet 16.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:46 PM ^
a pair of the rose colored glasses that everyone is wearing around here. I guess I just have not seen sweet 16 talent on the floor in the past several games. I hope I am wrong and all of you are right.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:48 PM ^
Well, I think we can make the Sweet 16. It will depend on the matchup.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:38 PM ^
We needed a split to 1) remain in contention (the Big Ten champ is not going to finish 16-2) and 2) maintain position for a solid NCAA tournament seed. It's extremely hard to win on the road in this league. The conference champ will probably be a team that goes unbeaten at home and like 4-5 or 5-4 on the road. If we beat Ohio when they come to Ann Arbor, which is possible, it makes today's game a wash. Regardless, #2 is my bigger concern. I want to get to the Sweet 16 this year.
January 29th, 2012 at 6:25 PM ^
This team starts hitting threes consistently - then I think they can be not just a sweet sixteen team but possibly more. There is no reason that their three point percentage should be so much lower this year then last year unless Darius Morris was really giving the three point shooters that much space.
The other possiblity is when you have the two gaurd offense of Stu and Trey out there - then running pick and rolls with hardaway puts too really good three point shooters on the wings. I loved the high pick and roll that opened a spot up three for Trey Burke in the corner.
They hit their threes - this team will become lethal. And they are getting open threes - they just aren't hitting them
January 29th, 2012 at 8:07 PM ^
I think your Darius Morris comment is truer than you think. He was a critical set up man for us, feeding wide open Novaks and Douglasses in the corners after driving. Watching today's game made it so painfully noticeable how we have lost that ability to hit wide open guys off the penetration (not completely but just not as effectively as last year). Watching a smaller Burke blowing past his man and into the lane but turning it over or putting up a mediocre shot when we have open guys (who he usually is trying to get the ball to when he turns it over) highlghts this fact. Craft is a superior defender but it has been a trend I have noticed lately; Burke's smaller size and inexperience hurt his ability to distribute to our three point shooters. Give Burke another year of strengthening and more understanding of defense and he will definitely improve greatly on this (not that he isn't good already).
January 29th, 2012 at 4:23 PM ^
Next year I doubt very much that we will be losing to Ohio.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:29 PM ^
4*, #9 OT, #100 overall to Rivals
4*, #17 OT, #147 overall to 247
4*, #24 OT to ESPN
3*: #45 OT to Scout (says he has tremendous upside, size, feet, but not enough tenacity)
Offers from Florida, ND, Wiscy, PSU, Sparty, South Carolina, among others
January 29th, 2012 at 4:33 PM ^
That's great and all but what about Muller?
January 29th, 2012 at 4:35 PM ^
News is that Reeves will probably not announce tonight, per 24/7.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:41 PM ^
Any report regarding Reeves is speculation.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:43 PM ^
Have you spoken with Reeves recently?
January 29th, 2012 at 4:46 PM ^
I texted with Armani for a short time today and just told him to contact me after he's made his decision. I'm almost certain that his people have been completely tight lipped since he told me he was 50/50. I really wouldn't read too much into any reports and I feel like people are just guessing right now when it comes to him, unless somebody has a real in with his godfather, who is in complete control of his recruitment right now.
January 29th, 2012 at 4:50 PM ^
If so, where came the 50/50?
January 29th, 2012 at 4:58 PM ^
Before Meyer and Mattison visited, I talked with Armani who said he was 50/50. He told me to contact him after Mattison visited, which I did. When we talked, he said his godfather told him he was to do no more interviews until after he's committed. My assumption is that he has held to that commitment based on me trusting his word. Today I just texted him to have him let me know after he's decided.

This kid is going to Ohio State. He picked Penn State to play with Camren Williams and for his god father.
And honestly - like I stated in a previous thread - when I saw their high school game this was one big family. There is no way they are going to separate schools.
Family is a huge huge draw - surrogate or not.
We will probably land Diamond, Grant and maybe Muller. I would forget about Reeves.
I would love to know what happened with Standifer. He is the Devin Lucien of this class - I just can't figure out what happened....
January 29th, 2012 at 7:45 PM ^
TheDenarding...to answer your question... I can figure out the Lucien thing. To me its obvious.. they want to get a foot into the school early in 2010, so they can get a start on that elite player Simmons...so they offer Lucien, but offer him at a position they know he wont play...cb.... its a smart move, for it gives the future players early exposure to Michigan.
