One that got away: Nick Perry
For all the talk about RoJo (whose only picture, AFAICS, was the one where his head was tilted thirty degrees toward the camera) and what he might have meant to UMich football, here's a local player that almost certainly would have helped:

All hail the death of the great in-state recruiting famine.

What's done is done. Let's just hope that Hoke can do a better job of getting that kind of talent home in AA.

Sure would have.

Listen! Hoke only wants people who are going to become (and/or already are) MICHIGAN MEN! We don't need more 'one and done' types!

He's a good player...we knew that when we lost him...but that's history

My friend and i were talkng about this the other day, we both had no idea he actually turned out as IIRC he was behind like 8 DE's when he committed to USC.

be nice to have, but I feel really good with the players we have.

Nick Perry is hella good.
But never trust USC. They took two away from us! (Rojo and Nick).
Damn.

because I've believed for years that the key to a national championship is the defensive line.

It's often disappointing that local players wouldn't choose Michigan, but USC was appealing to him. I'm sure he had expectations that Carroll would remain his coach. At Michigan he might have expected Carr to remain his coach. With Nick's family in Detroit, I'm sure that choice to go out West may not have been easy for him.

that going around after the choose USC was that his family wasn't going to have a problem getting out west to see him play... wink, wink, nudge, nudge...

All these mgopoints can't buy me a time machine :(

Probably a good decision by him - he would've had some pretty terrible coaching here the past few years (this year excluded).

He chose USC for reasons that made him happy, and good for him. He has been a good-but-not-great DE for a couple of years, and should have a good career in the NFL. He would have hated it at UM with the coaching changes, just like I'm sure he wasn't super-happy about USC switching staffs. Wish him luck, but every year kids leave the state and UM brings in recruits from other hotbeds. It happens.

going through a coaching change at USC is a little more relaxed than at Michigan.

I think in the future kids like this will look harder at UM especially with a former NFL DC on the staff now. Hail to Mattison!!!
