Mattison "stole the show"

Submitted by J.Swift on

While we await confirmation of Dantonio's alleged outburst, enjoy this story from the same HHSFCA clinic in Kalamazoo:

"On a night that saw Michigan State offensive coordinator Dan Roushar and Western Michigan defensive coordinator Dave Cohen speak, among others, the savvy Mattison stole the show, speaking from years of experience at the collegiate and pro levels."

I feel like that shirt is kind of a backhanded compliment to Hoke, suggesting that the arrival of Mattison & Co. was what bailed us out.  Hoke did a lot in the week between those dates to lay the foundation of our 2011 success.  It was then - before any assistants had been named - that he met with Denard and others and got them to pledge to stay.  And of course he gave his legendary "This is Michigan forgodsakes" press conference on the 12th.  IMO, that very moment he pwned Drew Sharp was when the turnaround began.

While I'm no fan of MD, I find it wildly inappropriate to keep insisting that DANTONIO STRANGLED FIVE HOTEL MAIDS WHILE AT THE RADISSON IN KALAMAZO.

So, just so we're clear, I can't agree with the notion that DANTONIO STRANGLED FIVE HOTEL MAIDS WHILE AT THE RADISSON IN KALAMAZOO.

RIP Maids.

I gotta say I would have loved to have been able to be there and see that session. I really enjoy watching football for good defense, and would be really interested in learning the details that go into making a good defense.

While we await confirmation of Dantonio's alleged outburst . . .

The same writer has an mlive story on the Hecklinski-Dantonio incident:

Hecklinski, filling in for Michigan head coach Brady Hoke, who was in Houston last night for the Bear Bryant Award ceremony, launched into a detailed presentation about the Wolverines’ way of recruiting — a little too detailed for Dantonio’s taste.

Dantonio, who was mic’ed up, cut Hecklinski off mid-presentation and summoned the rest of the panel members to the stage to, as he said, talk about more than just recruiting at Michigan.

A red-faced Hecklinski took a seat on the stage, joined by the rest of the panel, which included coaches from Wayne State, Siena Heights and Alma.

Both sides later chalked it up to a misunderstanding in forum’s format.

Thats funny bc last i checked [Dantonio] wasnt the moderator at the clinic.. How arrogant to think you can just change the program in the middle of someones 15 min allotted time.. And they call us arrogant.. Dont let a few wins go to your head [Gentleman of questionable intelligence and morals].. What a classless [individual]!

Over at aa.com I beat the drum about how Hoke's character -- honor, integrity, hard work, responsibility, respect -- pays dividends when it comes to recruiting.  I can't prove it, but I have to believe that kind of ethos appeals to a certain class of young men playing football.

Exhibiting this type of behavior can't help Dantonio ... and certainly now that the story is going semi-viral.  Character matters.  It looks like Dantonio is having a little trouble maintaining his.

I can't in my wildest dreams imagine Hoke doing anything like that.

Nice to hear.  People remember Meyer talking about Mattison as the best recruiter he ever had, and he just seems like a guy who knows football and passionately shares that with others.
