WR Recruiting

Submitted by Bluestreak on

With Stonum dismissed from the team, is there a chance we lure another 1-2 WRs in the class?

We have a slim chance with Payton at this point - but any dark horse receivers still in the picture for Michigan? Anyone think Diggs might come to Michigan with the lure of early PT?

damn it's 5 am. shit.   yeah im thinking early PT is enticing now that it's clear there's a need.  i wouldn't be surprised if we snatch an extra WR or if a new name pops up at some point.  then again, it's not like Denard is TOM BRADY or anything so that might kind of temper the PT lure.  here's to hoping we don't need as many jump bals to win games next year as we did this year!

In all seriousness they need to grab someone, unless the staff envisions Gant or Clark moving to WR. The passing up of Devin Lucien and Hakeem Flowers last year is becoming increasingly disappointing.

I disagree completely. Gant doesn't have burner speed to be a deep threat, but he's 6'2" 210ish with good speed, giving him measurables very similar to Hemingway and Avant. I've also seen some of Gant's track times, and they're far from slow. Not every WR is a burner. BJ Cunningham isn't, but he was a badass wide receiver. I'm not saying he'll switch positions or will be as good as those guys I mentioned, but in terms of speed, Gant has as much of it as other very good receivers we've had or played against.

the staff told Payton that they want 3. Madaris is on campus this weekend. Hoke is in home with Jordan on Thursday. The extreme back up plan is kenny lawler. He was commited to ASU but when there coach got fired he opened up and reached out to us. No offer was ever given but from what I am hearing there is a lot of mutual interest at this point. by the end of this class, we will have 3 really good WR with atleast one guy that will probably crack the starting rotation next year.

he was suppose to come last week but when that didn't happen tom said on a forum that he was intending to head up this week. Now apperently thats not happening either. Another talented kid that was said to be a Michigan ( and FSU) fan growing up that probably won't end up here. I don't get recruiting sometimes. All I will say is that I trust the coaches, and we have damn good ones too.

about all of the DL / OL / LB (pre-recruiting 2012 monster class) depth problems.....so I just assumed we had just been recruiting a bunch of skill position players....now I go to find out we don't have any suitable replacements for Stonum.....WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY DOING ON THE RECRUITING TRAIL FOR 3 YEARS?!??!!?  Yes....yes I know they got Denard...and yes...I know that Rivals rated our classes pretty highly during those RR years....but what was going on there?  Either NOBODY has developed, or there were some serious issues with allocating spots to positions leaving out most of the important ones.

We recruited lots of guys, but the retention was poor.  Feagin?  Gone.  Conelius Jones?  Gone.  Je'Ron Stokes?  Gone.  D.J. Williamson?  Gone.  Stonum?  Gone.  Teric Jones?  Gone.  That's two 4-star guys (Stokes, Stonum) and four 3-star guys who could have been playing WR for us who are now elsewhere or out of football altogether.  And a few of those slot receivers are still on the roster, but they're not really options at outside receiver, like Drew Dileo, Terrence Robinson, etc.

I don't really have any scuttlebutt on why Stokes left.  I always assumed it was because he was going to be buried on the depth chart, but maybe I'm wrong.  I was never that impressed with him on the field, and his catch in the spring game was the highlight of his career...so maybe that was the best move for him.

I assume he's pared that down some. And "includes" doesn't imply there aren't others, although I'm guessing his coach has an idea where he's leaning.

I hope it's Cincinnati--I think their offense is a good fit for him.

Moved back to wide receiver than sit on the bench behind several underclassmen at linebacker.

He has the size and experience at receiver.  He can't be slower than Junior H.
